I love the smell making rum. I the past when I haven't been able to get hold of molasses I've used black treacle and panela blocks its so tasty and floral
Happy New Year Randy! I’ve been in the hospital for the last four months. Your videos have really helped me through a tough time. Thank you very much! Chip
Love a nice aged rum. Nice to see you making it again. And with a better sugar!!! Thanks for the great video... Quick question. Where did the other 4# of molasses go?? LOL..
I can't wait to see this one I'm doing a rum right now. I used all molasses and water I had a starting gravity of 1.080 it's been about 10 days and it stalled out at 1.020, ph is good heat is to. Should I run it? Not sure what to do.
I've made rum using treacle (3 x 850grams jar) + golden syrup (3 x 850grams jar) + raw sugar (3 kg or 6 lbs), with a crushed up vitamin B tablet and supermarket yeast (Lowens here in Aus). Quite tasty, and I'm not a rum drinker.
I find that you have to backset three times before the rum flavour would come through. The run smells like rum but the resulting alcohol doesn't. Take your backset from the first run and make a new wash, rinse and repeat. On your third run you will produce rum.
@ I’ve still got the mother culture of the Rum Muk featured on the “This Blog’s Neat” rum channel that did some microscope analysis of the muk and compared it to another Dunder.
Check the pH in 2 days? Sugar washes tend to crash HARD (and then stall) from my experience... Oyster shells or marble chunks can help curb that, though.
good video, one tiny suggestion. recording your voice in stereo, having headphones in and the music playing through both sides and then your voice only coming out of the right side was a bit odd.
Awesome video Randy
Thanks glad you enjoyed it

Thanks Chip! Hope you are doing better now.
Love making rum. I chose that when I made my 1st run because of how easy it is to make the wash
cheers my friend
Yum!
hope so
Strange you came out with this video. I love rum and enjoying some now. I'm going make some in the near future. Thank you

Jaggery sugar from an indian grocery, 11lbs brick for $10 works great too. Great video
thanks
I've overshot my SG on occasion as well too. Fortunately DADY yeast chews right through it. I always get a nice product in the end.
its been couple days still running steady

When you save the dunder from your rum wash do you save what left of your wash or is that part of the dunder
i save what left in the still
You ever want to try distilling with some Rum Dunder/Muk. I’ll send you some any time you want.
I saved a gallon of stillage for next run

What's your opinion of doing an apple 🍎🍏/ molasses run..kinda a brandy/rum hybrid?.. aged with cinnamon n hot pepper I'm thinking

a gallon of molasses is 11 or 12 pounds (about 400ppg) .. .but it does not ferment to 0 either.
thanks for info

sorry about that I checked and found that a setting on mic was wrong
I saw recipe, to add 3 B complex vitimins, 3 tbsp Epsom salt, helps the yeast
thanks for info
Hope that all stays in the fermenter, not much headspace, with rum might be safer to do a 6 gallon wash in a 8 or10 gallon fermenter
good so far
If you put that molasses jug in a bucket of hot water for 15 minutes before you pour it out it will go much smoother.
you are correct
A Gallon of molasses weighs 11.89 Pounds.
Why is the rum always gone?!?!
Come on, you know why. 😏
yes i do know why
No sound after the intro.

Thanks for the vid. Your show - your pronunciations, but fyi, Turbin - ado, kinda like Colorado (AFAIK). 😉 NO?
