Same here. Although I will need a wrap around porch chink log cabbing with amenities, snow capped mountain view with possibly water view off in the distance. At least 60 acres. To keep that woodsy look in the future years to come. No neighbors.

@@GravityButterfly First off 0:29 Alaska has a border with Canada (several others do too) but doesn't "serve" as the border. 0:34 WTF is the "Northern Summit"?? Never heard of it. Neither has Google. Also, it is not cold and icy all year long. Summer temps in the 70s and 80s are actually common. 0:38 it is not a good place to retire because of the cost of living, though plenty of people do retire here because they've lived here very long. 0:51 Alaska does not have "acres of grassland". 1:15 Sitka DOES NOT share a "significant portion" of its area with British Columbia. The city of Sitka it as least 100 miles from the border, and Baranof Island (on which Sitka is located) is about 90 miles away. 1:25 it's Chichagof Island, not Chicago. 1:33 There is no "Grand Sitka National Park". There's the Sitka National Historic Park and Sitka National Cemetery. 1:41 Sitka doesn't "house" the Alaska National Maritime Wildlife Refuge. This refuge is spread out amongst hundreds of island from the Chukchi Sea to the Aleutian Islands to the Inside Passage of Southeast Alaska. St. Lazaria Island is just a small portion of the refuge. 3:28 there aren't many "big city attractions" in Fairbanks. 3:50 There are "large feisty salmon" found all over coast Alaska. 4:02, taking the borough into account, Ketchikan has a population closer to 14,000. 4:10, while the crime rate isn't exceedingly high in Ketchikan, like most places, it has plenty of crime, mostly theft and DV. 4:18 Property prices are actually pretty high for what you get (like most of Alaska) and you have to deal with a lot of water damage and mold issues due to the climate. 4:58 taking the borough and Coast Guard base into account, Kodiak's population is more like 13,000. As for living standards, everything is more expensive in Kodiak than most of the rest of the state due to shipping costs. 5:30 Rent and house values listed are actually lower than actual cost, especially lately. Also, as of today, there are only 8 actual homes for sale, with two being well over $3 million. Several homes recently sold homes went for well over the asking price. Housing is very tight in Kodiak with not even very many rentals available. 5:40 Median household income is skewed because there are several wealthy (millionaire) commercial fishermen living in Kodiak, and many residents have 2 or even 3 jobs to make ends meet. 5:53 Alutiiq is pronounced "Uh-loo-tik". 6:00 creator didn't even mention the Kodiak National Wildlife Refuge for "outdoor explorations." 6:31 taking into account the "metro" area of Fairbanks, the population is more like 100,000. 6:42 Go to Zillow and look up Fairbanks and see what you can buy for $253K ha ha ha ha ha 6:48 NO ONE retires to Fairbanks unless they've already lived there for 40 years. It is super cold and snowy in the winter and it's very hard for elderly folks without support from others. 6:58 the Arctic Circle is actually NORTH of Fairbanks, not south. Google Maps would show you that. 7:10 Chena is pronounced "Cheena" not "Chaina". 8:32 Tongass is pronounced "Tong-us" not "Tong-ass". 8:52 Chugach is pronounced "Chew-gatch". It's not hard to Google this. 8:59 Kenai is pronounced "Key-nigh" Again, Google is your friend. 9:23 Yes air cargo shipping is "also a thing here" since Anchorage is within 9.5 hours flight time to most northern hemisphere shipping ports, TONS of air cargo moves through Anchorage from Asia and Europe. 9:25 Anchorage actually has 3 times the national average in violent crime rate. Everyone calls Anchorage "Los Anchorage" because it has all the same problems of any other large city in the US. 9:29 Again, NO ONE is retiring to Anchorage unless they've lived there for quite a while and can deal with the winter weather. 9:46 It's "Chew-gatch" not "Chug-utch"
I'd rate the accuracy of the information in this video about a 4 out of 10. She got many things correct, but really flubbed a lot of things that are easily found online. I know all the above information because I've lived in Alaska for the past 20 years, from Nome to Kodiak to Ketchikan to Dillingham, and have experienced quite a bit life here. The creator of this video obviously has not spent a lot of time, if any at all, up here. She is also not quite adept and finding correct info online. Don't get me wrong, Alaska is a great place to live, but like all places, there are pros and cons. Drugs like meth and heroin are quite common in many places, and there are tons of petty crimes happening. But no place is 100% safe, so you take the good with the bad. Cost of groceries, gasoline, heating fuel, and utilities are higher up here than the Lower 48, so that's a big factor if you're thinking of moving here. For most of us up here, the good outweighs all the bad.
