That's a gorgeous pen! Thanks for the entertaining and informative review. I have a "Beam Me Up" version. It makes me happy when using it, or even just knowing it'll come up soon again in the rotation. It's a functional work of art to enjoy in daily life. Benu does great work, it's hard not to collect them all!
"It's so beautiful. You want to possess it. You want this symbol of rejuvenation in your life. Maybe you'll write with it a little, but I doubt this will be your daily writer." * hides in corner of shame* I write with my Benu Snowstream Express every day at my desk 😅. The phoenix is really stunning, though. Benu has an abundance of beautiful pens. Also, there's clear resin over the hand painted section of all Benu pens, so you'd have to really damage the pen in order to mar the painting.
If you look up close at the engraved edition number, you'll see the number is laser engraved on the clear resin and not on the actual artwork. The filled engraving casts a shadow onto the artwork underneath.
@GoldspotPens Very Cool! Thanks for this clarification! It is also very discreet and very out of the way. I like that it certifies that it is one of a series. Thanks again and keep shining.
Since Benu recently relaunched the newly re-stocked Benu Ambrosia Brown Orchid fountain pen. I purchased one immediately for my collection. I am content to be the owner of the one Benu pen that has enchanted me since the first time I saw it! However, the Phoenix is a lovely looking pen! Lisa
You really put the spotlight on the painting on that pen and the lore behind it. Very nice giving everyone a really good look at it so they could take a listen to see if it was calling them.😁 I expected the price to be a lot higher. Especially after you said it was on loan.
Lovely review--thank you! A stunning mythical figure presented in a very old tradition of Russian lacquer art (which came from the religious icon painting schools). Am sorely tempted....
Me, too. Not enough to shell out $280 partly because for $100 more, I could get my grail pen, a Pelikan M800. So, hahah, I am going through my life without either one!
There not many pens that are literally painted by hand, and those that are below $500 even less common. Benu is certainly giving decent value for the dollar. Loved this review.

Alas, I just received a a limited edition Benu, Sandalwood, from another company, Goulet Pens. So I shall take a breather on this one although my order finger is being restrained from tapping the enter button. I understand the Phoenix's nest included sandalwood. Also, I have a pen from Goldspot on notification status. What, a group for Illuminati and Cognoscenti of fountain pens vibrates the strings of the universe. Perhaps the music will be too enticing to resist.
It’s truly symbolic and beautiful! Will you please point me to your videos where you’d recommend pens for the writing experience rather than the decorative factor (though in this price range, around $300)? Thanks! Enjoy your videos!
Thanks very much! My videos usually hit both; writing experience and the aesthetics, but this one from the archives is more writing focused: ruclips.net/video/zNlY8--Le7g/видео.html
Morning HJ! You know when I first saw the Benu pens, I was like eehhhh, not too fascinating. Some of the glitter encrusted ones, just didn't do it for me. But lately, they have been making some stuff that kind of makes me want to buy a pen from them! They had that series that was based on Asteroids (I think), and these latest ones with the hand painting, are VERY nice! May consider getting a Benu in the future! Thanks for sharing this really interesting one with us!
Absolutely beautiful pen and I love the craftsmanship. Your story of how the phoenix connects to the foundings of Benu was insightful. That said, I won’t buy because of the Schmidt nib. I enjoy the exploration and discovery of in-house nibs, even with their idiosyncrasies. I hope Benu moves to in-house as they grow! Thank you for the wonderful video - the graphics were a fun touch and I’m sure fun for you in the editing process!
Excellent video. However, you were correct sir, Goldspot pens has sold out. I went straight there even before this video was done. Hopefully, I’ll hear back. Thanks again for the great content!
OK here’s my answer, yes after seeing Figboot’s review this morning of the Benu/Goldspot Phoenix Rising, I could not get this pen out of my head, so this afternoon I called GoldSpot and ordered one! Yikes?! This despite the fact I was engaged at the time in composing a comment for Waski’s cogent arguments at the close of his latest Pens In Use, about being financially responsible, not paying interest, carefully with the credit cards, and in general, care in making snap decisions. (I didn’t pay interest and I think this is the first “snap” decision (less than an hour) I have ever made in decades of FP accumulation. Hey, Hemingway this was a great crafted and produced video in your fantastic style. What was the section segue choral music? It reminded me of a few things, but I couldn’t find it in your notes. Anyway, I suspect over the next week while awaiting the arrival of my firebird I will daily alternate rewatching both your video and Figboot’s. Cithulu ink -priceless! Now on to unfinished business: I’m still trying to connect with you for an address to send the NOS Parker 61 I have for you. I have heard you tell others to Email you, but I don’t no how to do that. Even though you haven’t received my two IG IMs, though the problem may be on my end, you could try IMing me with your contact info at my IG account: avee3138. Eventually we will connect I hope. Have a good week.
New pilot. E95s exfine burgundy Benu bloody Mary ,fine oxblood. That Benu I would buy, frank in Oswego, ill great video, fountain pen therapy has some great vacation videos out.
This is a beautiful pen, except…nib, clip and engraving would have looked better in gold. There, I said it! I’d love a Benu as they’re on my wish list, I will say that!
I heard one commenter on these BENU pens who said ,"These hand-painted pens are for people who have lots of money and no taste." What a terrible thing to say. $280+tax,so,closer to $300 for a cartridge converter/Schmidt #6 steel nib? That's a great deal if you have the $300 to spend and really like the painting.
That's cool. $280.00 isn't too bad either. Like you said, It's really more for looking at. It would be rather disquieting to use, of course i'd still use it, but I'd do so with great caution. Eventually, I would treat it as a piece of art, and more for gazing upon rather than writing with.
My wife has several of the limited-numbered-hand painted Benus. She uses them all when they are “in season.”
Very Nice!
Love the art work on the pen and the history you gave on Benu. Thank you for a wonderful video.
Thank you for watching!
Hi there, I just received my Benu Rising Phoenix, and it is the one from your video which I think is neat!
