    When welding Stainless Steel, if you spray it with a bit bit of window cleaner it will help keep the finish from getting tarnished. Learned that today while helping a welder at the machine shop.

    That ladder is a great addition! Climbing up and down without a secure ladder while moored or anchored is one thing but imagine trying to get up there while underway if something needed attending.

    Stu, been following you for years and have been supporting this project for... well since you asked the question if it was a bad idea to buy an old steel boat. What a wonderful journey it has been, with all its caveats and hardships, it only makes the vision sweeter. Having used the trawler to motor up the coast, the wife and yourself were able to really "see" things that you needed to make it comfortable and practical. It's many other uses, e.g. scuba diving, fishing, treasure hunting, will only be accented because of the fantastic work that has happened before and during this hardstand. Can't wait to see the paint! Bloody brilliant, mate!

    Tip for burns: as soon as you can immerse the burn in cool water. Replace the water with more cool water as it warms up. Just 10 15 mins of this will save a lot of grief.
    What happens is the heat is absorbed into the flesh at the instant of the burn.
    Most of the damage happens when that heat is reflected out back through the flesh. Its like a microwave cooker burning from the inside.
    Controlling the emission of heat back into the flesh is very important part of minimising the damage, the outer burn will stay but heals quickly being on the outside in the air.
    The inside is where the real damage, and consequent pain takes place. Really severe body burns can be treated the same in a bath and this is a very effective.
    cheers

    • @bobbebbington5356
      @bobbebbington5356 3 года назад

      Seems like good advice but as a baker you get burnt on a regular basis. We found the best cure was vegetable oil on the burn and then put your hand in the oven . The pain is quite intense for a few minutes but then the pain disappears and it will not blister or become infected.

    • @Lanxe
      @Lanxe 3 года назад +1

    Nice to see you still going strong. I find it funny that you weld in bare feet. Better than welding in flip flops. It never fails that a hot piece of slag will hop into your slap, and you then desperately try to kick it off your foot. At least with bare feet, it just bounces off. I see you wire welding more now too. They both have their place.

    Have you ever tried dry ice to get rid of old sticky non slip paint and adhesive. Works out more expensive but about a tenth of the time and effort. Dump the ice on, cover it with a towel, let it sit for 10 minutes, sweep it on to the next section and cover it, return to the uncovered section tap with a hammer and it shatters off the steel. Heaps less effort.
