    Your consideration of your viewers is far beyond most RUclips providers and testament to your attention and devotion to providing accurate non-biased education on a topic that is too frequently misinterpreted! I am college educated, read many of the Sagas, researched my own ancestors with a strong attention to detail and have found your presentations the very best I have found after a lot of investigation! I truly wish other “experts” would subscribe and learn from your unbiased format and gear their presentation more on the facts rather than personal agendas.

    I prayed for a term by which to call myself in my personal practice because "witch", "magician", and "shaman" all feel incorrect to me. Then this video appeared to me. Be it the algorithm or the gods themselves, it seems my prayers have been answered haha
    Great video as always!

      yes, exactly - such a lot of work and consideration goes into these videos; I do not think that subtitles are needed - i never knew they were an option and have not ever had any trouble understanding anything - in fact your 'breaking down' and description s of the words - is wonderful - it is something that i have always appreciated so much when ever anyone does that - it makes it much easier to remember the meanings of things that way - ; also to clear up mis-interpretations that may have been in other books and such. Your knowledge and videos are great - and you are a kind and compassionate teacher

    I'm working on reconstructing a North European Bear Cult, and while I have the framework pretty well figured out (process detailed below), I'm having a bit of trouble finding out details of it. The general vicinity is Scandinavia, Finland, the Baltic Coast, and the northern part of the Urals. The time period that I'm looking for information on is from the point in which the bronze age PIE incursion into the Neolithic Native population was only a generation or so prior. This is before the building of pyramids in Egypt and before the Eastern Mediterranean's Bronze Age Collapse. Because I can't speak agglutinative languages, I use PIE terms. Here is my logic:
    I built the framework by going back to the predecessor people to those who practiced this, who are the Ancient North Eurasians. Then I looked at the religions of all the descendant peoples of the ANE to find correlations that existed in all of them. I noted that a great many of them held bears in either very high regard, or worshiped them outright. The ANE would have occasionally come into contact with the now extinct Short Faced Bear at the Eastern end of their migratory route. So I compiled the attributes that were everywhere in these descendant faiths. I then began to compare attributes of the compiled faiths with the portions of the faiths of the target region which were not found in Indo-European Faiths across the board, but were limited to the region, probably as holdovers from an earlier time.

    • @ArithHärger
      @ArithHärger  5 лет назад

      Yes I do know some sign-language, but not that much because each country has its own sign-language and some regions within a country have their own version of sign-language, which makes things rather difficult for one such as me who is not very knowledgeable in sign-language as a whole. The sign-language that I use is a mixture of UK and American, but I'm not native to either. But I try, just to make it a bit easy for some viewers in this channel. But I always write the subtitles in English, so people can turn them on and it might be easier to follow the subtitles and the hand-gestures for guidance.

    Hello Arith! I have been a great fan of your videos for a long time. I am new to paganism as a spiritual path but I am a scholar of Old Norse myth, religion, and literature. I would like to follow a Norse pagan path but it is difficult for me to detach the academic from the spiritual. I don't find a coequal male and female deities only male dominated gods which is a reflection of the culture of the Viking Age. These are some things that I encounter when trying to form a path in Norse paganism. Plus the association of magic with women and is condemned if you are a man. Maybe a guiding hand? Please?

    • @ArithHärger
      @ArithHärger  2 года назад +1

      Hello there friend, thank you for your message and thank you for being in there and appreciating what I do. I can give you a little advice/tip, nothing too strange or complex. I'm an archaeologist and in the archaeological record it's quite clear that paganism has always been evolving. It's much more of a syncretism of animistic belief systems rather than a religious set, always balanced with traditional folk beliefs and magic. As such, it has always been evolving to accompany humanity's own moral evolutions, as well as the needs and desires of each society through time. Paganism was never something fixed or stagnated, which is why it has endured more than most religions and it is older than every religion or structuring of a belief. Paganism adapts to the evolution of humanity as well as to the evolution of nature itself, and it is far more animistic in its pragmatic behaviours and basis of spiritual-thought. When it comes to Nordic paganism/animism most people focus on the Viking Age, which is a tiny period of little less than 300 years within the 11.000 years of humanity's history in Scandinavia. The Viking Period presents certain deities and belief systems, not all of them are ancient, many of which heavily influenced by Christianity. Some of the deities are also, of course, older than that period and a period-evolution to fit the particular beliefs, religions and morals of the society of the time, but some of which present prehistoric characteristics in their animistic conceptions. As I said, it's not something fixed. Things have always been changing and evolving, and it continues to change and evolve. Some deities and myths are new, some are ancient, some are recent, some are older, some are timeless, but it all continues to evolve.
