Lithium is one of my favorite songs from Evanescence. There were some moments in my life when this song could describe how I was feeling. "I can't hold on to me, wonder what's wrong with me"- that's the line that perfectly describes everytime when I felt deep regret, about actions that I'd taken. But... After that initial shock I always remember two important things that life have tought me.
    1) If You don't want to repeat your mistakes, You must never forget them.
    2) If You want to become a better man, You must find Love inside Your heart, that is strong enough to forgive yourself.
I needed to say the words that were getting of my chest.😅I hope someone who has moments like I did, will find a peace inside his/hers heart.

Lithium - a toxic metal which was used to treat bipolar disorder. My late partner and the mother of my children was poisoned by it many times despite taking it as prescribed. This song really hits home for me because some of the lines I have heard spoken in real life with genuine feeling/confusion/pain. However Amy was inspired, it was accurate. "Uncomfortably numb". I am glad you did the research, so you know what I am saying.

This song doesn’t give me goosebumps…it gives me tears. I’ve suffered from depression, and though I never took lithium, I knew what it is.
If you want other Evanescence songs to react to (that I don’t think you have)…”Hi-Lo” Is a great showcase of Amy’s voice, it’s a beautiful song and one that the band did with Lindsay Stirling, so it’s a beautiful piece as well…”Better Without You” and “Use My Voice” from the latest album are both fantastic. Better Without You is just plain metal and emotional, while Use Your Voice is a statement song with an amazing video…Finally, “Everybody’s Fool” is the most creative music video they’ve ever done. The song has an incredible message, but the video itself is such a sharp message that is still so relevant 20 years later. All are worth watching. Please do!

Lithium is a mood stabilizer .that would take away the sorrow that the writer holds inside and doesn't want to let go of .Sorrow is a part of her creative self. She has lived with sorrow for so long that losing it would be like losing a part of herself. Lithium don't want to lock myself up inside .Lithium don't want to forget what it feels without sorrow .Lithium I want to stay in love with my sorrow. It's about her inner feelings toward herself.🖤

Lithium was released on Dec. 8, 2006. But most don't know; Amy Lee wrote this song in age of 16. she played it on guitar and piano for herself, but was never comercial used. Later she and the band completed it to this final version.

You've probably already looked them up but just in case you haven't....
Lithium, don't wanna lock me up inside
Lithium, don't wanna forget how it feels without
Lithium, I wanna stay in love with my sorrow
Oh, but God I wanna let it go
Come to bed, don't make me sleep alone
Couldn't hide the emptiness, you let it show
Never wanted it to be so cold
Just didn't drink enough to say you love me
I can't hold on to me
    Wonder what's wrong with me?
Lithium, don't wanna lock me up inside
Lithium, don't wanna forget how it feels without
Lithium, I wanna stay in love with my sorrow, oh
Don't wanna let it lay me down this time
    Drown my will to fly
Here in the darkness I know myself
Can't break free until I let it go, let me go
Darling, I forgive you after all
Anything is better than to be alone
And in the end I guess I had to fall
Always find my place among the ashes
I can't hold on to me
    Wonder what's wrong with me?
Lithium, don't wanna lock me up inside
Lithium, don't wanna forget how it feels without
    Lithium, in love with you

Such a great song! It came out in 2006. And check out the lyrics, I had to pull them up and English is my first language. I usually do, because I find I get more value out of songs once I can take in all the meaning the artist put into it.
And I also learnt about Lithium thanks to music.

Altought Amy said a few times what she didn't wrote it thinking of bipolar disorders, this song remains the best description of what Lithium (and other such drugs) do. It's a way to have a "neutral" mood. So it means no joy, no sorrow.
But humanity is feelings, and without feelings you feel yourself so empty.
For me the best phrase which resume it is "I wanna stay in love with my sorrow".

    • @n.johanness7451
      @n.johanness7451 2 года назад +1

Well, that's not entirely true. Ideally it's a mood stabilizer, not a mood neutralizer. Too high a dosage can make you feel a bit slow or tired though.

If you want to hear Amy's voice similar to what you just heard you have to listen to her singing one of her solo songs she wrote. To answer one of your last questions: I first heard about lithium from my dad. Not as a medicine, but in it's solid form: DO NOT PUT IT IN WATER. Seriously, violent explosions happen. In a medicinal form, i guess they mix it with other things so that it's not explosive.
Later on i learned it could be used as a medicne, then this song came out

This was from Evanescence's 2nd major album 'The open door' in 2006... Fans complained that it wasn't the same as the first album 'Fallen' in 2003 (which sold 10 million copies in the US, 17 million worldwide)... But they didn't realize that 'Fallen' was co-written by guitarist Ben Moody, who left the band in 2003 (?) in the middle of the tour... Guitarist Terry Balsamo joined and co-wrote 'The open door' w/ Amy Lee and the songwriting had changed... new members were also in Evanescence, so it going to be a bit different. It still sold well - 2 million in the US, 5 million copies worldwide.

During the course of my own depression I came to learn of the various types of medications used to treat the condition. I once knew someone who had taken lithium, and they told me of its various negative side effects. Unfortunately, in the end they lost their battle with that struggle. For myself I have never taken it, although I deal with symptoms that it has been used for. These days my depression is much improved. I only wish I could say the same for that person who did not make it.

Easily my favorite song by Evanescence! Nice!
On the Lithium I happen to know about it since late 90´s because I had a friend whos used to take it. It was prescribed by a doctor because he had tried to take his life. He lived and today is a successful lawyer.
On the learning new thing kinda late trust me in two things. One never is too late to learn things. Even things that we feel we should know. We don't "have" to know nothing specially things that are outside our day-to-day life. Second music can teach us a lot about a many great deal of things and that's the beauty to be in such a journey like that you are enjoying.
Keep things as you are doing lass!
P.S.: English is not my mother language also so I feel you! And I'm kinda rusty.

I like if course the vocals in this one, and the interplay with the guitar and piano instantly echoing each other, but the downward chords progression just destroys emotion and hope...
Any Lee was and is amazing, seen live.
Sometimes she's running and jumping around the stage and her breath and singing & energy are spot on.
Please, thank yourself later for finding the RUclips of her doing this song, and "Good Enough", at Steinway hall.
Anything she's done in acoustic versions are treasures.

The official "Lost in Paradise" video is also a great one. For harder stuff, try "Sweet Sacrifice".

Amy Lee is my #1 female artist. Her voice goes right through me. I get emotional and I don't know why.
You have a beautiful voice and accent as well.
Amy Lee and Lzzy Hale have a great song together called Break In, if you haven't heard it yet.
    Feed Love! Starve hate. 🤘

I don't believe it has an official music video but Secret Door by Evanescence is somewhat along the lines of this. It's one of my favorites and I hope you can react to it.

I learned about Lithium because I worked in a youth-care facility for ten years and we have medication training annually because many of the kids were on medications.

Nice reaction. I would like to suggest the recent version with orchestra (Synthesis album) , if you hear it live with the orchestral arrangements take a look to "Evanescence - Lithium Synthesis live DVD version"

Btw I heard about Lithium in a documentary called "Boy interrupted" almost 12 years ago. The main character (the kid) was prescribed Lithium at a very young age, for bipolar and depression. :(

Bisscute, I’ve only been a subscriber for a few weeks, so I don’t know if you are aware of Sleater-Kinney. I would recommend their songs “Jumpers” and “Path of Wellness”. S-K also address issues of mental health in a very engaging and compelling way. I really enjoy your sharp intelligence and your ready sense of humor. Thank you.

Now that you reacted to U2 and Led Zeppelin. You should react to Amy Lee's cover of both bands. U2- With Or Without you and Led Zeppelin- Going To California. Thanks for the reaction, Biss!
