Edited - Suicide is not legal in India. It's a crime under Section 309 of the Indian Penal Code. It attracts imprisonment extendable upto 1 year or fine or both. But things have changed because of the numerous appeals. The Mental Health Care Bill merely helps in limiting the effect of criminalization. It was passed in full effect only in 2017 even though the Bill has been a topic of debate since 2013 in the Parliament. The Mental Health Act gives a chances to suicide attempt survivors to get medical care from government and be deemed as mentally ill during the attempt --almost-- nullifying the criminal charges. Unless found otherwise for some reason. The Act commenced only in June 2018. It's a confused state. So that way suicide becomes legal but assisted suicide (aiding and abetting) is criminally offensive. There were too many debates saying it's like labeling people to mental instability, and kind of puts Section 306 in jeopardy which is the caretaker of aiding and abetting suicide cases..and also, domestic violence being a huge problem, might get overseen if that was a reason behind suicide. These debates were early days. Interestingly, Passive Euthanasia is another whole story in India. It's allowed only if it's good for a person. Mostly in times of long suffering illness but also requires witnesses, medical board approvals and also judicial intervention by a magistrate. Anyway this film is set in 2010 so it definitely relates very well to the laws then. In his case in the story, it's worth a shot. The movie is really splendid! You should watch. For those who say how can a dead person be penalised, like another person, a lawyer, pointed out here - Karan Singh- suicide attempt survivors faced criminal charges. Not people who die. Hence attempt kind of would translate to suicide as a behaviour.
Well, I was looking for a comment mentioning Passive Euthanasia, I was going to write about its legality in India but then I found this comment. Thank you for saving my time, a fellow lawyer, I guess. :)
@UC9H6iWH0CmCollKaVimN6Jw When a law states suicide is a crime it essentially means suicide attempt survivors being tried in court. Or now it's past tense.
@@JyotthsnaaASharma Well, Section 309 of IPC actually mentions 'attempt' to commit suicide. Suicide per se cannot be a crime because of obvious reasons. And I have to say that I am actually surprised by the depth of your legal research. Impressive! :)
@@JyotthsnaaASharma Also for Passive Euthanasia, you require permission of the family members and it can only be exercised if the person is in a vegetative state or terminally ill and there is no hope for revival whatsoever. Supreme Court recognised Passive Euthanasia as a fundamental right under Article 21 as right to life and personal liberty also includes right to die with dignity. There is a concept of 'living will' as well, wherein a person can give advance medical directives which will be paid heed to if the need to exercise those directives arises. But then again, the aforementioned guidelines apply. Supreme Court also distinguished passive euthanasia from suicide and active euthanasia and stated that passive euthanasia is a mere acceleration of the inevitable conclusion.
*Please watch "Black" after "Guzaarish"* *Guzaarish means Request/Wish is a story of a man and his desire to euthanize. And on the other hand, Black is such a beautiful inspirational story about dreams, Perseverance.* *oh! man, Now I need to watch that movie again*
Yes 'passive euthanasia' is legal in India but on strict conditions: 1. If the person is terminally ill and in vegetative state. 2. The person must consent through a living will refusing treatment stating that he wants to die with dignity. (BTW nice movie..a must watch🙂)

All your reccomendations are great except Devdas. It's a classic for us but it's filled with melodramatic over the top acting and they'll die of cringe. They've made it clear repeatedly that they're not a fan of over the top acting

Did you know The film was recently included in TIME's top 10 movies of the millennium worldwide and it has many international recognition . so it cant be all bad from another prospective beside India.

Hrithik is a superstar for many people but in that same time some people thinks he is just a waste ,this is the main problem with him, if we forget his few early movies then he only has awesome movies and some of them are classic, but his few haters loud their voices more than his fan, and that's another problem with his fanbase, his movies are for classes not for masses and in india mostly people likes to watch typical Bollywood films, there are many comments which tells you that do not watch this but believe me it's a classic, not even that Kytes was also awesome. And hrithik sir is a bigger star than Akshay you won't believe but it's true he won best debut male in 2001 and in that night he also win best actor award, other contenders were sharukh khan and other Bollywood biggies, but he made a record and i think that it's an unbreakable record for ever, he is one of the finest indian actors, no doubt.
