Incredible how well the visuals can be passed as a modern game, it shows the amount of Dedication Travelers Tales had before they became exclusively a Lego game developer, despite there track record being mixed from a gameplay standpoint you can't denie how talented everyone was.

This is why video games are important pieces of animation.
Think about it for a minute or two.
With all of these 2D platformer games, there’s always a lot of hard work that goes into making every single sprite and every single frame of animation be as fluid as possible.
I can definitely appreciate stuff like that.
Man, I wish there were more people in the world who appreciated presentation the way I do.
Garfield: Caught in the Act is another great example of a game that’s very well animated, as is The Lion King and Aladdin (Genesis) for example.
It’s just so nice to see how well these games look, even today.
Art is definitely beautiful, isn’t it?

Cool thing about the third one, didn't know that! There's also a "shortcut" for the first boss (the cranes). You can jump on the lower cogwheels while pressing JUMP to bounce higher and if you stay as much on the left or right as you can, you can throw ammo to the upper ones without needing the springs even once.

This was so much better than the SNES port, which lost a lot of graphical finesse despite being more powerful hardware. That's blast processing for you right there. Also the soundtrack was like 100x better.

I know with the Aladdin game they had help from actual Disney animators, might be the same for this game.

Wasn't the same developers but Disney were involved.

You do know that blast processing is technically not a thing that exists right? That was marketing jargon.

Mega Drive is more powerful than the snes

    • @wizzgamer
      @wizzgamer 4 года назад

Yep it was due to the lack of blast processing that the levels where cut as due to the Snes's slower cpu it couldn't handle them a Super FX chip would have been needed which the publishes weren't willing to pay for.

As I only had the SNES port of this game growing up, it's interesting to see the differences between versions. A bit dismayed that the two extra Mickeys were not shown, but the first would have led to skipping the Mad Doctor fight, and I've always thought that dodging all those potions and bones was quite a challenge. Overall, this was a good run.

Takes me back when I used to play this so much, also I think my was kinda broken cause it tend to loop the first level after first clear before continuing as shown...also I never finished it ( I was like 6 if not less when I played this)

Mickey Mania: Proving that even the weakest 16-bit consoles can handle TONS of 3D graphical effects. (Seriously. This is Castlevania SotN levels of "3D in 2D games", and SotN is a PLAYSTATION game too!)

I distinctly remember there being a little Mickey Skeleton in the water trap at 28:02. Did they take it out in later versions of the game or something?
