  • ICE is ramping up deportations, aggressively seeking undocumented immigrants. Ana Kasparian and John Iadarola, hosts of The Young Turks, discuss. Tell us what you think in the comment section below. tytnetwork.com/go
    "A hearing in El Paso County in Texas went from ordinary to “unprecedented” last week when half a dozen Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents showed up at a courthouse where an undocumented woman was seeking a protective order against the boyfriend she accused of abusing her.
    The woman, a citizen of Mexico who was living in El Paso had been driven to the courthouse by a victim’s advocate from the Center Against Sexual and Family Violence, a shelter for victims of domestic abuse where she had been living.
    She left under arrest.
    “This is really unprecedented,” El Paso County Attorney Jo Anne Bernal told The Washington Post.
    It was the first time in her 23 years at the courthouse, Bernal said, that she can remember ICE agents making their presence known during a protective order hearing. The agents had come to stake out the woman, identified by her initials I.E.G., because, Bernal speculates, they likely received a tip from the only other person who knew the time and place of the hearing - the woman’s alleged abuser.
    The woman had a prior criminal record and had been previously deported, but, according to Bernal, had no current outstanding state warrants.
    “It really was a stunning event,” Bernal said. “It has an incredible chilling effect for all undocumented victims of any crime in our community.”
    It is county policy not to ask about citizenship status, Bernal said, because officials want to make clear that all victims of crime in El Paso are entitled to the same protections within the criminal justice system.”*

      Nope, he can't get to her to beat and stab her anymore. He's been given the perfect loophole to avoid any consequences for his actions, and he's now aware of that. And serial abusers like him almost always find new victims once one is gone.

      If he keeps picking illegals and they all run into the arms of ICE from him, then he's a hero. Some people like movies where the bad guy is the hero.

      A hero because he commits crimes... like Deadpool, right? That's technically called an antihero. And in real life, such people rarely stick to committing crimes only against those already somehow in the wrong.

      I see a lot of people are saying this her boyfriend can`t get here now so whats the problem. Well her boyfriend is still free in the US and is no longer getting done for his crimes. Maybe someday he `ll turn his abuse to a US citizen or maybe you have just gave him ideas to abuse more people. Other problems with this situation would be now that people traffickers, sex traffickers, pedo`s etc can easily take advantage of this new situation. The women should have been deported after the case was settled, not before and not during.

      People don't seem to get that doing things this way creates a loophole that allows any person legally in america to rape, assault, rob, and abuse whatever illegals they wish, and to never face any consequences. Why? Because the person needed to either file charges or stand against the criminal in court will be deported the moment they report the crimes.

      The problem is not that she was deported, but that she was deported despite being a party in a court case. Reporting abuse is NOT deterred. If you are a convicted criminal reporting abuse, then yes you are deterred since you would be deported if you are also here illegally. Those that break crimes need to deal with the consequences. However if you are here illegally and are reporting abuse then there is no need to to deport them since they are not committing violent crimes. Please explain what is wrong with that idea? Do you feel we need to protect illegals who are committing violent crimes by giving them a free pass?

    • @samiamrg7
      @samiamrg7 7 лет назад

      +CandyLaStar Dude, do you not understand that in this case there was a criminal _who wasn't punished?_ The abusive boyfriend got off scot free and he is free to commit more crimes by abusing his next girlfriend. ICE broke Texas law by deporting this woman in the middle of legal proceedings. They should have at least waited until afterward to do something with her. This is why Sanctuary Cities are a thing: to keep ICE from interfering in the affairs of local law enforcement.

    if you are and undocumented immigrant and you're worried about one of these raids happening to you always remember that you have rights just like everyone else
    Before a raid: Be prepared and plan ahead. Contact an immigrant advocate, attorney, or qualified community agency and be well-informed about your rights. Know what documents you should carry with you at all times. It is advisable to carry a state ID or a driver’s license. These documents contain information about you and contain no information at all about your immigration status or your country of origin. Do no carry any documentation brought from your country of origin. Do not carry false documents with you. If possible, carry a card that states you wish to exercise your right to remain silent for use in case you are interrogated by immigration/police officers. These cards are usually available from immigrant-rights organizations in your area. Always carry the name and the phone number of any immigration advocate, a lawyer, and/or an agency who will provide you with advice and other help in case the immigration/police detains you.Inform your neighbors and co-workers, regardless of their immigration status, of their right to remain silent if immigration/police comes to your neighborhood or workplace.
    During a raid: Do not let any immigration official or public officer into your home/house/apartment without a court warrant. If they do not have one, they need your authorization in order to go inside. Ask them to put the warrant under the door. The warrant has specific names of people that he agents are looking for and should be signed by a judge. You should not open the door if the agents do not have a warrant or if it does not meet these requirements. If immigration officials or police officers enter without proper authorization, ask for their names and/or write down their badge numbers. Obtain the names and phone numbers of any witnesses. Remain calm and do not try to run away. If you do so, immigration/police may use that against you. Refuse to answer any questions regarding your birthplace and your legal status, unless your lawyer is present. If you lie about your name, your relatives will have difficulty trying to find you.If you have children in school who will not have someone to watch them while you are detained, say so, and ask to make arrangements. Share information about the raid with your co-workers. If there is a union in your workplace, contact a union official.
    After a raid: Remember that both documented and undocumented persons have the following rights. Keep them in mind at all times: The right to make a phone callThe right to speak to a lawyerThe right to say nothing unless your lawyer is presentThe right to a hearing before an immigration judge.
    Important notes: Do NOT sign any document. If immigration/police tries to convince you to sign any document, you should refuse to do so. That document might allow them to deport you without giving you the opportunity to see an immigration advocate or your lawyer. Keep a receipt of any personal property that is confiscated.Report any incidents of raids or abuses/mistreatment by border patrol, INS, US Customs or police.Contact your local immigrant rights organization, or Immigration Law Enforcement Project: 956-425-9552, or the National Network of Immigrant and Refugee Rights, 510-465-1984.

      Nutrollio Nutz they don't live off of tax payers. Undocumented immigrants pay 12 billion dollars in taxes annually. We have a lot of money to loose if they're gone. Just ask Alabama. And besides that they do have rights because they are still people and we have laws that give then rights for a reason.

    • @rouge1ful
      @rouge1ful 7 лет назад

      Krausewitz it isnt lying. Lying would be them having fake paper work on them. you have all of your paper work, if you're undocumented clearly you wouldn't have that stuff, and no one can force you to tell your country of origin. That's why having a state ID or license is better because it wouldn't have that information

    • @rouge1ful
      @rouge1ful 7 лет назад

      Dustin Zilbauer sorry but you're wrong. Undocumented immigrants DO have legal rights under the U.S. Constitution and federal statute. As far back as 1896, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that: “The Fourteenth Amendment to the Constitution is not confined to the protection of citizens. ... All persons in the U.S., therefore, have constitutional rights.
      But hey, this is just an excerpt I suggest you read the whole thing: maldef.org/truthinimmigration/undocumented_immigrants_do_have_legal3192008/index.html

    Obama deported a friend of mine who had been living in LA for the past 40 years as an undocumented inmigrant. He actually got deported when he tried to legalize his situation at the behest of his wife. His wife and kids were left on their own. I understand we must look into the statistics John but the way you just phrased that made it seem as if NONE of that happened under Obama and that would also be misleading

It doesn't really make it any less ugly than if she were documented or undocumented. If anything he should have been going to jail himself, but he's not. Why? He's an American, so it's okay to abuse undocumented women. Maybe he'll go to jail for beating up on an American woman.

    The woman has a record of Domestic Violence *and* Assault, among others, and I'm supposed to feel sorry for her? Where's the sympathy for the person she assaulted? The person she domestically abused? Just because she's an illegal immigrant she suddenly gets more attention than the victims of her crimes? I get that we don't want a system that punishes victims of a crime for reporting it, but in this particular case, I think ICE got it right.

    I love the narrow mindedness of the hate comments, let me explain so everyone understands one situation where this could happen. Let's say a U.S. citizen flies to Europe, just on some trip let's say college, or a honeymoon. Now while there, let's say for a week, you are harassed, assaulted, beaten by this same European since you arrived, finding out where you are staying through stalking. Now you go and file a law suit, it all goes through, but now they say "Oh wait, this person isn't want of our citizens, let's just deport them." Is that fair. You don't have a citizenship, so you are no different then some of the illegal citizens in the U.S.
    While people may argue it is "different" it isn't as much as you think, when most "illegal immigrants" got into our country "legally" and just overstayed their travel Visa's or something of the sort. "Oh you don't have it on you at the time, don't care, you must be a terrorist/criminal" is the mind set people are adopting.

    Illegals are illegal... I'm all for sanctuary states, but this lady was stealing mail, most likely income tax checks. That's a reason even a sanctuary state would call ice. If you wanna go the illegal route into the country, save up and become a citizen. It's very possible, harder in some states, but you can travel. This lady also let this guy move in, that is her responsibility. He should get 1000 years for hurting his girl, but... That's part of the legal system in America. And if people have been here for years and have buisesness then they can get citizen ship.
