It's interesting that, due to the distribution of the climate zones along tropics, your antipode even being at the other side of the globe (as long as is not ocean) will be as the exact dame climate zone at yours. For example, Spain and New Zeland have mediterranean climate and a similar weather, being antipods.
You said if you dig straight down and appeared at the other end there would always be a 12 hour difference which if I recall is not the case as I remember you talking about how some countries have messed up timezones
@@shivaspatel2024 Do you generally start discussions by calling people idiots? This usually does not lead to success and, in this case, highlights your lack of understanding.
What about the poles? What time zone are they in? [I'm being serious]. At the exact poles you would be in every time zone. This is like "what direction is north of the North Pole?" The answer is "The question doesn't make sense." This is actually a very important idea because people occasionally ask questions that seem to have no answer, but the question doesn't actually make sense.
I was thinking the same thing. It would be twelve hours off if people still set their time by the sun, but in practice no country has done that since Standard Time was broadly implemented over a century ago. Plus, there are countries like China who are massive and have one time zone, and there are many countries who observe Daylight Saving Time and many who don't (and of those who do, different dates at which they change). These days I'd say you're just as likely to be 12 hours off as not.
actually you would travel at terminal velocity until you pass the core. then you would be subjected to immense gravitational pull back and forth. I can only speculate from there.
The closest-to-farthest-away place for the northeastern quadrant of the USA is typically Perth, Australia. For San Juan, Puerto Rico the closest such point would be Karratha, Western Australia. If you think northern Montana has nasty weather and you are looking for a get-away, then the Kerguelen Islands is not only terribly difficult to get to... it is even more miserable. You might expect that at a latitude of 49 in the ocean that it might be comparatively mild like Vancouver or Dunkirk -- but it is heavily glaciated and it never warms much above freezing even in favored places.
The "dig until you end up in China" is true, but *not* from North America, that's from *South* America. BTW I'm Chilean and yeah it's curious that it's the opposite in terms of both time of the day and season of the year. In twitter many comments about this is about "send me warmth" or "send me coolness" depending on the season (sorry for not being a native english speaker, didn't find a better phrase to describe "coolness" and "warmth"). Currently it's summer here about 20:00 so have some warmth from here people currently in winter.

For what it's worth (not much), I searched how long it would take to fly between two of the large antipodal cities they mentioned, Taipei, Taiwan and Asuncion, Paraguay on a random day, September 16th, 2021. Shortest trip duration leaving Taipei that day is 35 hours, 21 minutes. Taipei to Los Angeles, LA, to Panana City, Panama, then Panama City to Asuncion. Cost $3265 USD. But if you want to go cheaper you can do it for only $676 USD. But it has more stops (Taipei to Tokyo to Dallas to Sao Paulo to Asuncion) and takes 37 hours and 10 minutes. Only 1:49 longer than the fastest route and saves you $2500 USD.
what if all the intersecting pieces of land were the only landmasses on the surface of the earth ? It would definitely be an interesting version of our history
I live in Hamilton, New Zealand which (according to wikipedia) happens to be one of only 17 exact antipode cities on earth! It's antipode is Córdoba, Spain. The most cost efficient and quickest way to get there would be to drive from Hamilton to Auckland (1hour 45mins), Fly Auckland to Dubai (17hours 25 mins), Fly Dubai to Madrid (8 hours 10mins), drive Madrid to Córdoba (4 hours). Total time 31hours 20mins.

I don't know that's really weird
China and Trump ruined earth because they don't want to combat climate change :'(
The Unpopular Opinion global warming bants
its cause you're a normie
The Unpopular Opinion oh yeah
It's interesting that, due to the distribution of the climate zones along tropics, your antipode even being at the other side of the globe (as long as is not ocean) will be as the exact dame climate zone at yours. For example, Spain and New Zeland have mediterranean climate and a similar weather, being antipods.
I live in west Kazakhstan so if I go to the opposite, I am in point nemo. Yay?...
I've seen pictures of Astana, Kazakhstan is so underrated, it looks beautiful out there..

It's very desert-y
You said if you dig straight down and appeared at the other end there would always be a 12 hour difference which if I recall is not the case as I remember you talking about how some countries have messed up timezones
@@shivaspatel2024 Do you generally start discussions by calling people idiots? This usually does not lead to success and, in this case, highlights your lack of understanding.
@@soaringvulture True
@@soaringvulture he's right though the question was really stupid
0:33 If someone actually did that, how long would the fall last and could you survive the "hit"
pretty sure minute physics did a video on this
Watch the movie Total Recall (2012)
actually you would travel at terminal velocity until you pass the core. then you would be subjected to immense gravitational pull back and forth. I can only speculate from there.
A lifenoggin video told me 42 minutes. Go watch it
So that was the the question to life the universe and everything

It would definitely be an interesting version of our history
iron clad I was thinking the same thing!

When I was a kid (about 1985ish) I told my dad we were digging a hole to China. He came out to check on our progress and a Chinese girl came out of the hole we were digging. She was the smallest of all of us so that's why we had her dig once we got really deep like 10 feet. My dad fell on the ground crying laughing so hard. And we didn't know what he was laughing at. The neighbor lady came out to see what he was laughing at and as soon as he could get his breath tell her, she then fell on the ground laughing. It's one of my best memories!
Give me chills to think how big our earth is
