I remember that concert you played in the basement in Germany. You played the whole concert, but at the end realized that something was wrong with the sound transmission. So after fixing the problem, you played the whole hour long concert all over again! You were tired at the end. 😳 But you sounded wonderful! Thanks for including us as you rise in the musical world! 😇
There was nothing wrong with the sound, the problem was that the stream itself was not started, somehow the button was not clicked. I was there, in the basement and I still remember seeing her come back down after she found out what had happened, how heartbroken she was.
It happens to me too. Feeling confident about your own skills is a positive self-fulfilling prophecy! Beautiful playing, btw! I absolutely love these pieces of music! Thanks so much for sharing this video with us!
Not only do I remember the Dresden livestream, it's the main anecdote I relay to friends when I tell them about you. It was such a kind thing to play the entire concert programme a second time when you realised the original livestream had malfunctioned, allowing us to enjoy the music after all -- along with various tourists who just wandered into the the church crypt which by this time had been opened to general visitors.
Awww that's so sweet! It wouldn't have been possible without the team at Dresden Music Festival though! It wasn't my entire idea to play the live stream concert there in the basement... :)
@@TiffanyPoonpianist I actually felt the people milling about added something, it was weird in a good way, and made me ponder what they were thinking about this surprise performance in the crypt of Dresden's famous rebuilt church.
Oh my goodness-I totally related to what you said in the beginning about being off kilter and how something like a nice conversation with a friend can straighten things out with your playing. So deep and though-provoking! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
My dear Tiffany: You truly amaze me with all of your talent. You are bilingual, you are a master of the 88 keys, and a kind person all rolled into one beautiful soul.
Actually Tiffany Poon does not only speak English and Cantonese but also has a very good level in French, has notions Italian (mainly music annotations related) and knows some German (mainly food related ;-)
When you said "that basement concert in Germany" I got so excited. I can't believe it has been 3 years since you played it then. Thank you for continuing to spread the joys of music! 😁
I can't believe so many of us immediately knew which concert she was talking about simply by mentioning "that basement concert in Germany". Glad I am not alone.
You have been posting more frequently😊 I was like oh my gosh Tiffany posted and I quickly without thinking clicked on it at 12am with school tomorrow Thanks for the podcasts and videos. I want to be a concert pianist and I love philosophy. Your life for me is success, I love the quiet time and kind of secluded life from the world You know I really do admire you(please don’t freak out😂) It’s been a pleasure
It's great that you'll finally be able to perform in the Dresden Music Festival after the pandemic kept spoiling your debut there. It's indeed a sign that you're moving up as a serious musician, and not just with the style of your vlogs. Also hopefully, your German skills will have moved up a lot by that time. I'm excitedly looking forward to your livestream concert next week even if it's during predawn hours here.
Dear Tiffany, I am so happy today because i got a ticket for a real event in germany, monheim, in april 2023. It is the first time i bought a ticket for a piano concert, and I am so looking forward to seeing you perform live on stage. time goes by as fast as ever, and I barely can't wait for that event. After that, I am sure, I will have good memories for a lifetime 🙂
It is amazing the things we can do when we believe in ourselves but it is always so hard to turn off that critic inside and just do what we love to do for that very reason alone...also yes I remember watching your concert at the church when it came out!
I didn’t know Emanuel Ax was your teacher. I went to his concert back in mid November with San Francisco Symphony playing Brahms Piano Concerto no.1. It was lovely to see him played piano four hands with conductor Michael Tilson Thomas during the encore 😊
I'm currently in the process of learning Reverie too. It's a challenging piece, but such a nice one to play. I couldn't believe when I saw you playing it at the beginning of the video! So cool.
Wow, blast from the past, Tiffany! Yes, I totally remember it. It was absolutely incredible and I remember that it did not stream and when you found out, you graciously performed the entire concert. It was amazing. I felt so privileged! I cannot believe it was 3 years ago. Time certainly passes quickly. Seemed like only yesterday!
I really loved this video - reminiscent of how your earlier videos were. Please do more like this. Since I have followed you from the beginning, I would say... yes - you have risen and continue to rise - glad I could be here for the trip. Extra fun listening to you talk cantonese with your parents watching the game.
Oh wow, yes!! I remember the concert in the basement of the Frauenkirche - how could I forget, I was there! And did not only get to listen to the program live but twice in a row as well. Never felt more lucky in my life haha, I still think about it everytime I walk past the church :")
Must be nice having this festival close to home. While I will come over to watch Tiffany play, it's a bit too far (about 750km one way) to pick up many concerts.
Thanks for this unexpected, pleasant surprise this morning with a new vlog on RUclips. I can't count how many times I've watched this concert in the basement. Yes Tiffany you have climbed many floors since then and I have so enriched my knowledge of classical music!
Oh damn, has it been three years since the "German basement concert?" Come to think of it... I think I first discovered this channel around 2018 watching some of the sight-reading sessions, it's been fascinating to watch the audience grow haha
I remember that one very well! I think I have followed you at the near end of your Juliard days. That's quite a long time ago. I'm just catching up on your videos as I was 9ut of town and in the hospital. But now recovering and watching your Livestream concert next. Thanks for your heart. I do organize in Dresden „Mindful Evenings“ where a female Pianist is playing 3 classical pieces, we do have a 3 course menu and we do short meditations before the meals and music to enjoy it in silence. How wonderful would it be with you as an artist bringing the people into total inner and outer silence. 🥰
You are definitely no longer an intern. It is a continuing pleasure watching you mature as a person and as a pianist. And now you have produced one of my favourite unboxing videos. Finally, you talk about the 'basement' of the church. The term in Europe is 'crypt' (from the Greek, meaning 'hidden') which sounds much more dramatic and romantic.
Yes I remember that you felt proud after you realised there problem with sound if remember rightly all the best for 18th and if I Dont get to you before have a Merry Christmas xx:)❤

Hey, thank you so much for continuing to post videos and of course make podcast episodes 🧡. This was so soothing just helped me find calm in a huge wave of fear I am tackling right now. There is something about your content, it is so pure... somehow it It is hard for me to find, something easy to watch but leaves me feeling positive in some way (even the moodier videos). Hello, Tiffany. As regards your review of yourself at the time of the concert in Dresden... Changes occur inevitably with the passing of time. However, if I may comment from regular follower's point of view, your essential personality traits did not change a bit. Still, you are the kind, honest, humble, sparkling person that you've been. --Waving from Istanbul.
This literally just happened to me. On Tuesday, I went over a piece that is really standard for cellists, the Bach Prelude. I’ve only been playing for 8 years, and I learned this piece after only 2 years of playing. But then I also had a really good conversation with my best friend, and another one with my boyfriend. It wasn’t particularly interesting, but it just was a really nice conversation. I came home, sat down and went over the first two bars over and over again to make sure I was using the proper bow fluidity, and then dove in. It was the best time I have ever ran it, and it just seemed like I had know how to play it since I was born. I got tingles everywhere, and than ran to my really confused mother who couldn’t understand why I was so giddy. Anyway, I know the feeling and it is one of my favorites… also, you’re work is phenomenal, I’ve been listening to your podcast and music religiously
You may have mellowed out since that vlog you looked back to, but the kid in yourself came back when you watched that football game with your parents. We're always little kids with them.
Yes I remember now, you had organized a live voting online while you performed in the crypt. However technical difficulties forestalled this. I was disappointed having hoped to vote, though your playing soon shook off this disappointment. You were intending to perform again here and rerun the vote.
Can't imagine the world without music, you play so beautiful 🌷💕 Me watching every game of FIFA. Don't know when next time you'll be on utube again yet hopefully we can get a little excitement by watching the final World Cup game on this coming Saturday on TV. (You talk like my daughter with Cantonese💕)
Indeed, she is getting better at it too. Although I wouldn't advise her to change her day job. The "new laptop"-unboxing (MS to iOs for editing purposes) was a bit hectic and her involvement in the "Steinway & Sons loan"-unboxing was rather limited. Nice kettle though, almost tempted to get one myself.
Hmmm, I remember it, the "basement concert" was fun...all the random people walking around made it sort of unforgettable. Didn't know what you were talking about until you showed the scene haha 😂
I know what you’re talking about. But I’ve never associated it with a conversation. I don’t think it has to be a conversation either. It’s a frame of mind that you’re in. It happens to me with piano and also golf. Sometimes it just feels different. Like I have more control or maybe relaxed or something. Could never put my finger on it but when I heard you say that it made me think about it. I always just thought I wasn’t really into it that day.
As for 'catching up', becoming a serious artist is like a slow-cooking stew - you can't hurry it up. As for conversation, wouldn't it be nice to have a 'musical conversation' with someone (better if romantic, of course)...
the soccer bit reminds me of an old video where you were counting the piano keys in cantonese. numbers are among the first words that anybody learns, and no matter how many languages they learn, they will always count in their first language.
Well, in Tiffany’s case, it is a lot easier to count in Chinese languages. English is my first language. I speak a few other languages too. Yet I prefer to count in Mandarin.
If you don't mind some *commentary* on your playing ... ... The quality and feeling you put into several pieces is very similar to they way *Arthur Rubinstein* plays them.
I am planning to play the Reverie to friends in a few weeks! I have started looking at it also to relearn it... such a lovely piece :)) For some reason I have never played that Chpoin Nocturne though... I guess I should... sometime... but I am already learning about 5 pieces... Bach x 2 Chopin x 2 and Debussy... Someone said you should play more Bach. How about the first Partita? :))

Hmmm, I remember it, the "basement concert" was fun...all the random people walking around made it sort of unforgettable. Didn't know what you were talking about until you showed the scene haha 😂
哈, 第一次睇到你講廣東話. Your voice and face expressions are different when you are speaking cantonese.
Welche Sprache hast Du jetzt gesprochen? War es chinesisch oder koreanisch? Wenn Du in Deiner Muttersprache sprichst, dann bist Du fröhlich und natürlich. Du kannst es gern öfter machen 😁
good one
the soccer bit reminds me of an old video where you were counting the piano keys in cantonese. numbers are among the first words that anybody learns, and no matter how many languages they learn, they will always count in their first language.
Well, in Tiffany’s case, it is a lot easier to count in Chinese languages. English is my first language. I speak a few other languages too. Yet I prefer to count in Mandarin.
Hey, have you ever thought of performing in Turkey ?
I remember that church basement concert!
I miss you tiff :)
Too cute
yes i remember it well
I can't belive she used the toilet brush to clean the water boiler at 4:47 - YUCC !!!
I was just listening to the basement concert a few days ago haha 😂
Amazing to your agenda filling up and see you in Dresden Festival. Congrats!!!
5:39 I believe it is D-G instead of B-G
If you don't mind some *commentary* on your playing ...
... The quality and feeling you put into several pieces is very similar to they way *Arthur Rubinstein* plays them.
I like hearing your Debussy!
I remember!
and people were just wandering by -- and some sat down and listened
I am planning to play the Reverie to friends in a few weeks! I have started looking at it also to relearn it... such a lovely piece :))
For some reason I have never played that Chpoin Nocturne though... I guess I should... sometime... but I am already learning about 5 pieces... Bach x 2 Chopin x 2 and Debussy...
Someone said you should play more Bach. How about the first Partita? :))
