What I love most, is that Jessica could’ve still said “no”, citing something along the lines of “my house, my rules”, but she decided to acknowledge Rachel’s budding skills as a lawyer in training and go along with it. THAT is the difference between a manager and a true leader.

@@muhammadazzam7545 pieces of evidence in a trial are called exhibits. So for Rachel's argument that a precedent of the firm paying for an employee's law degree already exists, her supporting evidence is Harvey as Jessica paid his Harvard tuition. So he's "exhibit A".

The line, the look and the smile, everything really, confirms that latter point: Harvey’s awesome.
Additionally, Jessica is keeping it light and diffusing the tension by injecting a bit humor and levity to the proceedings. And reinforcing that notion that they are a “family”. THIS is the kind of manager I want to be if only I was smart enough.
And this, is just one prime example of how you "ask" for what you want in the work environment. It's not enough to just have the balls and ask. Why should your employer provide you with what you're asking? Having confidence is one part of the puzzle. Walking in with every possible defensive avenue covered, Rachel came out on top. Bravo.

Bro don’t be illusionary. Ok u have to have some balls in Salary negotiations. But she was quite arrogant in this Scence. Most supervisors do not like that
Better advice is to 'be' what you want in the workplace. If supervisors see you're able to do better than your current position they'll gladly move you to a position that suits the company better. And don't take that as you needing to start bossing your co-workers around like you're the manager, that will end very poorly. But be proactive and facilitating rather than reactive and it gets noticed.
@@erioncena3922 Her salary negotiations were based on her work environment and previous employees that had also asked for the same, if not more. Obviously if you work for mcdonalds, this type of salary negotiation would never work. Its relative to her environment, thats the kicker.
@@Trazynn In this particular environment, her negotiation skills worked because Jessica valued Rachel's presence and opinion. Her being a top notch employee who always provided knowledge and insight, allowed her to walk in there and negotiate the way she did. If the partners didnt already know how valuable Rachel was to the firm, none of this would have worked. Its already complimentary to the reality of this scene.
The dynamic between Jessica and Harvey was fantastic.
I don't like Meghan Markle, but the character she played here, from writing to execution was pretty damn good. Same with JK Rowling. I'm not the biggest fan of hers politically, but artistically, JK Rowling is the best in the business.

What I love the most about this scene is Rachel's development. She knew her worth was more than a paralegal, she just didn't know how or couldn't take the risks to prove that until she faced off her goliath (LSAT), and once she did that she was cleared to make her case to play ball with the big leagues.
No she had a victim mentality all along when she couldn’t crack the lsat. You don’t call that knowing your worth when you are salty about failing.🤷🏻♂️
@@RR9sf Maybe in the beginning, but she grew out of that. If she still had negative feelings about failing she wouldn't have tried again, talked to Jessica, or used Harvey as a reference. That's not being angry, irritated, or hostile, that's learning from your failure and getting right back up again. If you don't see it like that, it's fine. We just have different views on character growth.

After Jessica left to Chicago
A lot of people have written comments about how she didn't pay it back as she and Mike moved to Seattle. I'd like to point out 2 things here:
One, the deal she made with Jessica does not involve the Harvard Rule deal. It is a separate deal. Here the deal is she pays for law school by working here part time, otherwise she would've have left work and studied full time if Louis' deal was to be honoured.
Second, she did work at the firm for some time (S7) as she got her license in the middle of S6 when Mike's bar license track started. Though not for long enough,ik but it's not like she got thru college and left the firm

I like this Rachel. Smart, deserving and competent. I wish they showed her professional acumen more. Otherwise, her character was such a petty, hypocritical and dislikable one.

Summer associates do NOT work as lawyers. In big firms, they do a lot of legal research and draft memos of law and maybe some very basic legal documents that are reviewed and edited and put into the name of an admitted lawyer.

Silly scene - (1) Her dad is Robert Zane he easily makes $10+ million a year and can help cover tuition (Louis wrote a check to mike for $500,000 for the legal clinic in the blink of an eye) (2) If SUMMER associates can easily pay back law school tuition the interest on a bank loan should be negligible for her.

Not to be a stickler for the truth but she's not. She's Duchess of Sussex, Countess of Dumbarton and Baroness Kilkeel - but not Jarl which is a Scandinavian title. When presented she is presented as "Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Sussex". She does hold the title of Princess Meghan, but because her Duchess title supersedes her Princess title, she is presented as the Duchess of Sussex.

siddharth mishra the firm. When she made the original deal with Louis it was that the firm pays for her law school. So I doubt Jessica used her personal money on Rachel

@@siddruk why is it a bad investment, otherwuse rachel might have left sooner. Not helping with a lot of important cases. Winning leonard baileys deathrow case, helping with Jessica's speech, helping harvey get forstman etc.
