- Unfortunately, I was penalized five points. Thankfully, however, a failing mark is greater than eight demerit points, so I passed the road test! Here are some helpful tips: i) the examiner was pleasant and fair, ii) the examiner appreciated that I verbalized my thought process while driving, iii) watch out for pedestrians at crosswalks, especially when driving downtown in the morning, iv) you will be asked to parallel park at some point along 5th Avenue North. Afterwards, shoulder check for traffic BEFORE exiting your parking spot, v) look behind you when reversing, in addition to using your side/rear-view mirrors, vi) follow SGI's recommended lane changing procedure: signalling-mirror check-shoulder check-proceed, vii) be aware of cyclists riding within the dedicated bicycle lanes throughout the downtown core, viii) when turning left at a controlled intersection, rotate through observing pedestrians, oncoming traffic, and the traffic light, ix) exaggerate your shoulder checks, and x) be friendly and polite to your examiner. Good luck!!
