    The Suunto 7 WearOS device and the Garmin Fenix 6X are excellent fitness watches and smart watches as well. They both have different target markets but both target the same people, fitness people. When we are not working out, there are things that we expect from our wearable device to do. That's where these two devices differ. Let's get into this review and comparison between the Suunto 7 and the Garmin Fenix line of watches!

    Having both watches, I am with you on most points of the comparison. I've had 2 Fenixs (currently spring the 5X). I love it and almost went with a Venue to supplement it. I liked the idea of having both as seamlessly communicating through the same app. However, in addition to a beautiful screen, I liked the idea of a truly smart watch and went with the Suunto 7. I love them both immensely, but find the Suunto lighter and more comfortable for daily wear. When all is said and done, I tend to think of the Fenix as a workout/outdoor watch that does some smartwatch things and the Suunto as a smart watch that does some workout/outdoor things. My opinion could change later, as the Suunto app still feels like it's in beta testing. Hopefully, it will see some improvements in upcoming updates. The Garmin app is heads and shoulders above the Suunto one.
    Also, after some time, I am seeing almost 48 hours on a single charge with my Suunto... Nothing like my Garmin, but it did seem to improve with a little time.

    If you are looking for an athletic watch with smart features the Fenix blow's the Suunto away. If you are looking for a smart watch with athletic features then I would go with the Suunto. If you are going to use the watch for working out, running, biking, hiking, etc then the Garmin is the way to go. If you are going to hook your watch up to a chest strap, power meter, speed meter, cadence sensor, or smart trainer there is no comparison the Garmin is the only way to go. I guess I was expecting much more from the brand new Suunto compared to last years Garmin

    I was considering Fenix6 for a long time BUT: 1) no touchscreen in 2020? Nah. 2) No good looking UI in 2020? Nah. 3) No watch faces? Nah. 4) 23k CZK for Fenix6 and you cant make phonecall from it but from Huawei Watch GT2 (4k CZK) can? Pfff.
    I guess Im still waiting for ultimate experience. Maybe Fenix7 next gen. Good battery life, phonecalls, great UI, touchscreen, all GPS technology available, topo maps, watch faces, barometer, altitude meter, heart rate monitor, VO2 max, music player; switch band and you can wear it at work, switch band and you have outdoor beast...

      @@thedrvn If I wanted an iwatch, I'd buy an iwatch. You totally miss the point. It is not about gadgets for gadgets sake, it is about usability and an efficient UI. Doesnt matter if one is an ultra runner, athlete or gadget numpty, you still got to interact with it via the UI.

    • @babisbabalis8935
      @babisbabalis8935 3 года назад +5

      @@thedrvn actually I think that he's right. Athletes don't care (and often they cannot even handle) touch screen when in action. When you 're running, you 're just stick with the buttons. When you swim, you just press the buttons. When you 're mountaineering, you press the buttons for practical reasons. You probably wear gloves too, so it's buttons or nothing. Now when you 're in the city walking, drinking an espresso under the sun or whatever, you could use the touchscreen and all this "usability" and efficient UI, but it is not the purpose of sports watches like garmin fenix. Their target group is athletes and ultra runners. I have a Suunto 9 (WITH touch screen) but I seldom use it. In addition to that, I think it's a disadvantage too, due to random activation. So imho @JST_DRVN is just to the point. It's all about target groups. OK, it's probably an advantage for some in the specific target group too, but it's not that crucial for *that* target group.

    Been a lot of changes with the August and now September update. Not sure if there is an audible notification re every mile/km as I don't run with headphones, but now with the always on fitness tracking screen it flashes up your lap details. There is also the ability to load routes to the watch and the ability for basic navigation. There is also fused tracking now which can help to extend battery life while tracking.

    Thanks for the video man. I received the Suunto 3 as a gift (having never owned a smart watch), and the person who gave it, returned it because it had no built-in GPS...now I'm in the market for one, but for the life of me, reviews have been SO UNHELPFUL in helping me decide on the perfect one. I was leaning towards the 7 until I watched a video describing it as terrible, inaccurate and incompatible...I don't mind spending a bit of cash for the right watch, and I think I'd prefer touch screen to buttons - I just cannot figure out what I should be looking out for...this vid helped somewhat.

      The Garmin devices are unique in that they have GPS maps that you can use like a GPS navigation device. They don't work well nor smoothly, but they make it possible, and they don't require cellular connection nor even a GPS fix to use. Suunto is route (re)tracing whereas Garmin is route navigation.

    Not entirely sure about heart rate accuracy, even in the charts you provide the time in each timezone is way off. They both seem to work with 5 HR zones, so I'm guessing their thresholds are quite similar, but the Suunto 7 spends a whole lot more in Z1 compared to the garmin, almost 10 times more time on it. Z2 and Z3 are somewhat comparable, but now again with the higher heart rates it's again waaay off, as the Fenix 6 shows more than an hour in Z4 and like 10% of all time in Z5, whereas Suunto shows around the same time almost 60% - 40% of that time distributed in both heart rate zones.

    I really liked the detailed comparison, hats down for that, however, your diction could use much work. You lost my attention past the third minute. Friendly advice: if you seriously intend to do RUclips videos, please pay attention to the speech dynamics the punctuation should bring. Having no respect to that makes the audience loose interest, while good enunciation in speaking keeps the audience's attention even if the subject lacks information or integrity.

I’m caught in the middle because I’ve been looking to get the Garmin fenix 6x sapphire for quite some time now but the thing that is holding me back (besides the $1000 price tag) is inability for the watch to notify me when I get a text/call on my iPhone. Do you know if this is the case? I’m not looking to take calls or answers texts from my watch but the ability to see who’s calling/texting me without taking my phone out of my pocket would be a definite perk.
