Re: air plants! It sort of looks like the plant stayed wet too long around the base. Make sure you let them dry completely before turning them upright, or water can sit in the crevices and rot the plant. I water every 1-2 weeks. I let them soak for like 1-2 hours upside down, then dry them overnight on a soft towel still upside down. I also never fertilize mine. I was told they dont need it at all. One of mine has put out 2 pups AND bloomed, and it's still somehow alive right now, lol. I'm sure it will eventually die, but it's still going for now!
Ditto on the likelihood that there may have been some water trapped in the base of that plant. I have about 50 airplants and this has happened to me, so I do the same as Dakota (though I don't worry about whether they are upside down or not while soaking; I just make sure to shake them out a bit before letting them dry upside down), with good results.
if you had a 24 hour live stream of you watering plants i would watch the entire thing. trust me, we are not tired of watering videos! thanks for giving us your best efforts!
Please don’t worry about your repotting videos being too repetitive! You always give us such good information as you repot the plants that they never feel like they’re all the same.
I love repotting videos and love the idea of having them speckled in between other types of videos. Your plants look so happy and healthy. Oh and I’m happy to see the Parasio Verde update 😊
I never noticed the small spots of dark blue just below your pupils! How cute! Any videos you share with us, I'm sure, brighten all of our days! Thank you for your hard work!
I think youtube shorts is a really great way to film all your little chores and then you don't feel like you're making the same content all the time. I love watching all types of videos btw :D And the music in your time lapses is always so relaxing, just loving it!
I love this kind of video. I always learn something. Even a short 10 minute repot would be fun if you have lots to repot. I’m still learning. I bought Molly’s mix bc of you and my plants are growing!!! Also you could do a book club repot where you give an overview of all the books you read, or maybe while you water? Combine your passions I guess. I’d also love all the games you and your boyfriend play. Maybe a how to play repot 😁💜
Your repot videos are my favorites! I seriously reach my max level of relaxation during your repot. Your so tender with the plants and when you dig in the dirt it is such a soothing sound! Film all of them please!!!!
I can watch watering and plant potting videos from you any day! I had a lot of anxiety this evening and that all faded once I started watching this video. Also, I’m normally not a Thai con fan but yours has really grown out beautifully! It’s stunning 😍
Love the watering videos! Total relaxation! I have a question, are you using the tree like plant stand? I don't see it anymore since the move. Take care! And hello to the puppies!
Repotting videos are the best ones. If you post 10 of them I will happily watch them. I ordered a free sample of Bios after seeing it in your video and I’m really excited to see the results.
Airplant is underwatered! The bottom of the leaves is brown and not black. They didnt appear to schluff off as if rotten. I think the plant is struggling due to the extra dry air from the heat being turned on nearby. I gave mine an extra long hour soak two days ago rather than a short one because the heat is on now and no doors/windows opened. Getting drier inside. The base like to turn brown too if they get too much sunlight but since you said not much has changed and the heat was turned on coupled with the fact that the leaves are not black to actually underwatered. They are overly sensitive to chlorine in my experience too. I water with tap but I've lost a few to tap when I water the day my water is treated and its the highest concentration from the city (not well water). Now i water everything else then let water for them sit until the next day and they can soak in it The do get soft for sunlight, underwater, and overwater though! Which is not convenient lol
I enjoy your videos no matter what you show us. I could happily watch watering videos over and over. I have 200+plants. I was finding i go through fertilizer quicker than i can afford it so I've started watering all my plants over a bucket. When the bucket is full i just use a jug to ladle it out again to water more plants. It saves on water and fertilizer being wasted down the drain. I know i probably am risking transferring any substrate borne pests being transferred to other plants, but so far i haven't had any pests so I'll keep doing what I'm doing. It has saved my fertilzer (and water which i do have to pay for ) tenfold. I'm sure plenty will tell me i shouldn't do this but it works for me so far.
How do you water plants that are in pon? Do the pots need drain holes, or do I just pour water in a drainless pot and let the plant drink when it wants to? 🌱💚🌿🌵
I enjoy repotting videos. I always learn something from them. Your air plant may be dying. I had several and when the leaves started curling they died. I'm not sure why but they did. I live in Florida and they grow in the trees here. They maybe getting too much sun. Also make sure to completely drain the water out of the middle or they will rot. 🙂
I love your rug in front of the cabinet/tv. Where’s it from? I appreciate how consistent you’ve been with your uploads. I look forward to watching your vids. Can you do an outside tour if your garden area?
I just got done going through and watering. A friend was shocked I brought them all to the sink and watered them through. It works for me, they get a good watering and inspection each time . Thanks for another planty video. 🪴♥️
I appreciated getting a view of what’s in your water started watching a few days ago, got my first house plant last Friday it’s a Golden Pothos. And I’m such a noob but watching as many videos as possible, though if you haven’t already do you have a video for a beginner and what to do with their first plant? Cause I’d like to move my pothos to a moss pole
Great advice. I actually leave my air plants to dry upsidedown until the next day.... I usually water them at night, but sometimes during the day too, either way I wait until the next day to put them back where they live😊❤
I have tons of air plants and once you turn on the heat you really need to double your watering with them. They get lots of water from humidity and heat drys in it the air. Or throw them in your cabinets where the humidity is higher.
Fern, your thai constatation has bacome areal show stopper! Such a gorgeous plant😍 I remember all your struggles so congratulations with such awesome result! 🎉
My partner has some plants at work I've given him ..he didn't realize his soh had gotten so long and the roomba ended up sucking it up and dragging it around the whole office before he seen what happened 😂
I have really harsh tap water in my area and all of my air plants eventually rotted from the base like that until I started using RO water on them (but distilled or rain water works as well)
I think my water is pretty hard too. So I've been boiling my water, letting it cool down then put it in my Britta, or pour the cooled water right into my watering can if it's empty. I also water my plants with the water I boil my eggs, rice, or noodles with, but don't add salt. ❤
I recently learned that the weather stripping is supposed to form a U in between the doors! So basically you close the door without the weather stripping first and then the one with weather stripping so it’s folded on itself. really helped me increase humidity in my cabinet! 😊
If you haven’t transitioned your calathea to pon yet Fern, do a transition period in between in water where you get some water roots going and it will help 🤍
For the air plant - Looks overwatered. Do you turn it upside down afterwards to let it completely dry? They don’t like to have moisture sitting at their base. I also rarely fertilize mine and when I do it’s very diluted. Love your videos! Sometimes I just listen at work and then actually watch them later. Great chill vibes 💖
Loving all the uploads! My 5 month old baby as well! She loves watching your videos, I think its your calm voice?? But WE always appreciate your videos
I find that my air plants lose bottom leaves as new ones grow. As long as the top looks healthy, I’d say it’s normal. I am relatively new to air plants though. Also, literally none of us would complain from too many Fern videos. Post them all. 💯
OMG loved this video!!! My fav is your Painted Lady and the Tai Con ❤❤❤ What are the sachets hanging on some of your plants? Pest control? Do you have links for them? Thank you and keep your videos going! They’re fun and informative. Blessings! 🙋♀️
30:08 RE AIR PLANT SOS: so that’s rot, like BAD rot, if I were you, I’d try and salvage the middle, and pick off all the rotted leaves, I had this happen with one of mine and lost the whole plant in a week, air plants go through a process similar to root rot from overwatering or underwatering so it’s either rot from one of those two, but yeah if you don’t remove all those sus leaves and try and salvage the middle, that’s a goner 😢 really sorry Fern. To add, from my experience dry rot is more common with air plants than any other plant variety! And almost everyone underwaters them cause they’re so easy to forget. Luckily if you catch it soon enough (which fingers crossed this finds you before the plant has RIPed) and save that middle non-rotted section, 9/10 you can save the plant! Best of luck, update us on the process!
I’d love to put my Calathea in Pon but it’s so hard to get. The Leca queen has a good vid on transferring plants from soil to Leca but Leca can be substituted by Pon. Melissa has put her Calathea in Pon and they love it
I just got my philodendron paraiso verde also. I put mine up as high as I can for the winter. Since heat rises, I am hoping it will stay warm enough. ( with a grow light) fingers crossed that will help.
I used to have 200+ orchids (now reduced to 60😅). Pump sprayer and trays, maybe something at the bottom shelve to absorb liquid. If I had to water by the sink I would've quit orchids altogether. Some of them need water daily.
I would love to see an update on your white ghost euphorbia! (You do have one, right?) I just got one and I’ve never had a euphorbia so I need all the tips!!
Watching your video on watering, I did water my succulents and a few new plants. Do you mist your plants daily or weekly? Is your water just tap, distilled or rain? I have learned a lot from all your videos
If you don’t get the airplants completely dry before putting them back up they can rot in the center where the bit of water sits. Maybe that happened? I usually tip mine upside down on a drying mat till the next day and even then they don’t △⃒⃘lways get dry.
When I transfer my plans from soil to pon I usually take a big cutting put it in water let it get water roots then put it in pon honestly and then get rid of the mother plant, like take the biggest cutting where there's hardly anything left of the other plant unless you want to sell the other part or something then don't take a big cutting but that's the easiest for me otherwise the roots rot and swither away first before they start getting right for the pon. Lol if u know what I mean
Yes I have a parisio verde myself and I have it on a moss pole. It’s growing but the variegation is not good, it’s mostly green. You said it needs to be kept warm to get Better color?
Hey Fern, gorgeous Thai! How long did she take to give you the large leaves annd does she have a designated grow light? Also, your home is looking very cosy now!!
Oh gosh she took way longer than she should have. I've had this plant for over 4 years and she's rotted about 4-5 times so I've had to start over many times lol. She is finally doing well now. And yes she has the PlantSpectrum32 as her designated grow light and seems happy with it!
I wish I could help you with your air plant, but I have killed so many of those things. One minute, they'd be doing fine, and then the next minute, they'd be dead. I don't know if this helps, but there is a fertilizer spray made by Cute Farms, I used to spray them with.
I got those ulti-mite sache's with my orders from Optimize Organics but was too weirded out to use them indoors! Would love to see a video about them and how effective you think they were etc! There also a bit of guilt on my end because I dont think I have any pests at the moment so they would just starve but I guess if I throw them in the garbage they will starve regardless lol.
Fern ! Maybe you already know this..but I was just watching a RUclips video of a couple that live off grid, and they dealt with aphids, by buying a bag of ladybugs, and those ladies ate the aphids up like candy 😊.. not sure it’s an option in your area, or where you would buy those-but thought it would be important to share 🌱 💫
