    Misty, why not cut the orange peels directly out of the heart shapes and then you would have the orange peels in another project and you wouldn’t need to worry about the colour of the heart showing through?

    Don't throw away the rest of the square after you cut out the heart. You can use it to make another project. If you have some fabric that you want to fussy cut, you can use the square to frame it and make another small quilt. A 6 x 7 arrangement with borders would make a nice size throw or baby quilt.

    Unless they have improved that invisible thread after a few years of washing and drying it starts to break and runs the quilting. So no matter what you claim I won’t use it.

    • @susanmei9980
      @susanmei9980 3 месяца назад +4

      Did you use nylon thread or poly thread? The nylon kind is like very fine fishing line. It’s a little bit stiff and scratchy.
      More recently they came out with the polyester thread that is smooth and fine. Wondering which one you had that problem with?

      @@susanmei9980I’ve never heard about any problems with the nylon invisible thread! I know machine stitching is so much quicker but I am a hand appliqué person so might consider doing it maybe with a hand sewn buttonhole stitch??

  • @GrrannyH1
    @GrrannyH1 3 месяца назад +6

    If you are custom quilting this on a domestic machine, you can do the stitching around the applique as part of the final quilting.

  • @carolrice3832

    I would have trimmed the edges off the charm, moved the heart up a tiny bit, cut the orange peel out of the heart. That way you could use the outer frame and the orange peel in another block. That way there truly would be no waste, but a little more appliqué and have a second quilt.

    Cute quilt! One change I’d make would be to put hearts of 2 different fabrics on each background square for a more scrappy look. To me, only matching 2 of the 4 hearts on adjoining blocks looks odd. I agree with other comments that using a white block on a white cutting mat makes it very hard to see in the video.

    • @sandybruce9092
      @sandybruce9092 2 месяца назад

      Yes! Please do not use a white mat with white or very light fabrics! It doesn’t work well for videos! Personally, I’ve always used a much darker mat as it works best for my eyes!

    Why hasn't anyone come out with fusible precut for precut? Like 4 1/2 and 9 1/2 inch squares? It would make projects quicker and less waste since the fusibles width are 18 inches.

    • @laris2328
      @laris2328 3 месяца назад +1

      Bc then they couldn't sell more fusible and make more money.

    • @sandybruce9092
      @sandybruce9092 2 месяца назад

      Also, the precut fusible pieces would cost so much more due to the cutting process - maybe a different machine? I dint have a problem with just cutting across from side to side and then folding and cutting the size needed - but I would make the cut piece of the fusible just slightly smaller than the fabric block to avoid any edges that might be even slightly,over the pressing area!

    When zigzagging, I cut my background squares larger for shrinkage and trim to desire size. I also fuse Reynold's Freezer paper on the back of the block and start zigzagging. It help to keep the fabric from bunching. I personally hate using invisible thread. I noticed her zigzag was not tight which will cause the fabric to fray after washing so use a tighter stitch with cotton thread instead. It is a cute pattern. Someone mentioned to just cut the center of the heart instead of adding the extra white orange peel piece which I would do too.

    • @sandybruce9092
      @sandybruce9092 2 месяца назад

      Thanks - I have tons of Reynold’s Freezer Paper as well use it I. Hand appliqué - great suggestion! I also would prefer using a cotton thread as I just don’t care for the invisible thread and not sure if my machines would be happy with it😊😊

    This is a HORRIBLE pattern.
    Cut the centers of the hearts out, instead of adding fabric.
    Instead of that interfacing use a temporary fabric glue that will let you top stitch everything down.
    This will give you a quilt that doesnt feel like there are chunks of plywood all over it. And use less fabric.
    Sometimes its so clear all they want to do is sell new quilters random bs stuff that isnt needed.
