Especially De Falla's, he should be a household name. I was listening to 3-cornered hat when I was just a dumb kid and even then I realized, for what it was, that it surpassed any movie soundtrack. I like Massanet too.
I remember having the privilege to see Barenboim play this in person with the CSO at Medinah Temple that year. The swimmy acoustics were perfect to immerse oneself totally in de Falla's Spain. Magical concert
John Williams, the soundtrack composer nor the guitarist, must have listened to this hundreds of times. I can recall many of his pieces on this one, from E.T. to Raiders through Close Encounters. Those strings building up tension, and slowing down with the same mistery and the piano drops here and there.
Probably one of the greatest concerts of all time. Vengerov with the encore and Domingo conducting a Chicago Symphony Orchestra with Barenboim in the forefront. Spectactular.
Seen this in Liverpool being played brilliantly, the garden must be full of beautiful Rose's, for all occasions, in some parts, it wouldn't look out of place in the mouth of the pianist, fantastic.
Magnifico!.
I did a double-take myself. Then I thought, why not? Kind of like a professor of chemistry who teaches and is an expert in the lab as well. Not everyone can do both well. The great ones can.
Daniel Barenboim was a great pianist first, a child prodigy, then a conductor, so I don't find it surprising at all. (Actually, that's not quite true, he also started conducting very young as well, but decided it was hard to be learning both well at the same time, so decided to concentrate on piano in his youth, with occasional conducting summer camps I think. He then came back to it full time later in life.) The big surprise for me is seeing him use sheet music. He has hundreds of works from Beethoven, Mozart and other composers fully committed to memory. I suppose this piece wasn't part of his onetime repertoire.
@@joeybrooman5338 Nice information, but it seems to me more like your sentence should read "I suppose this was his ontime use of sheet music in his repertoire." At least, that's what I thought you meant. Thanks, I didn't know he was child prodigy. I dearly love all those that keep this remarkable Beauty Alive
It is a great performance, one of my favourite pieces of all time. Unfortunately, there are some brief moments in this recording where the piano is drowned out, rather than accompanied by, the orchestra.
Everything about Spain is amazing from its food to football, but it's achilles heel its its politics. Spain suffers from its libelous Black Legend concocted by its rivals England and Holland.

2022: Spains’ music is the most difficult to perform”TRIANA”. SEE: IBeria-Suite” ❤ Isaac Albenizes composer. Guitar music by Tarraga” unique but folkloric! Igor Stravinsky spent a lot of his time in Spain for Russian motifs in his music!!
I don’t know, maybe it’s me, but this music does nothing for me. Quiet passages followed by sustains and staccato hits on the piano. Not melodic. Rather boring in my opinion.
Spain's classical music is underrated.
So is their sherry.
Especially De Falla's, he should be a household name. I was listening to 3-cornered hat when I was just a dumb kid and even then I realized, for what it was, that it surpassed any movie soundtrack. I like Massanet too.
so very true and sad, is a very rich, expressive music !!
No, it's not, it is amazing, and known to be
Flamenco is underrated.
Daniel Barenboim is a master, god & commander

Plácido Domingo - DIRECTOR.... WOWWWWWW!!!
Brilliant.
I used to roll my eyes at the mention of Plácido Domingo, thinking he was just a comercial name; had no idea he was the real deal, and a legend.
Outstanding performance and great interpretation. SUPERB page turning skill: 17:10 - 17:15
I really enjoy this live performance, just superb!
Magnifico!.
Qué genialidad. Varias obras de arte juntas. Qué orgullo de ser argentino!
Bueno, ha sido este, un Placido Domingo. Best name ever.
After Granados Spanish Dance no 2 now I searched for some spanish music. what a world!!! Underrated
PLACIDO DOMINGO CONDUCTING BARENBOIM⁉️⁉️⁉️ in what universe ⁉️⁉️⁉️
Wow!
Beautiful
Placido Domingo, splendido direttore. Anche !!!
Una interpretazione magistrale di Barenboim al piano. 👏👏👏👏👏
Agreed!
Qué sesión de Falla me estoy dando
Glorioso.
So strange to see Barenboim on the piano and Placido conducting 😂 I guess I’m too used to Barenboim conducting and Placido singing opera.

Only 11 thumbs down. Most people watching approve of Domingo's conducting.

IF YOU SEE THIS YOU LIKE HUMMINGBIRDS
Wait a sec....isn't that Victor Mature conducting...?.....oh, is Placido
No it's Placido...
Dominngo
If you wanted to know what useless looks like.... Just look at Domingo trying to conduct the Chicago symphony
Indeed.... He did become a conductor based on his name rather than actual ability/accomplishment.
