Two of a kind. Born years apart and different places and yet, met one day because they were meant to be together for many years. Love their chemistry and genius talent. 👏👏👏

Wow , these guys are on a completely different level to any other comedy duo. Amazing talents , both of 'em. I know Lewis did the writing, but this stuff is more about personality and delivery, and they were both incredibly talented. The chemistry they had together was absolutely breathtaking.

I didn't realise such a great document of their partnership existed. An awesome time capsule. Singer dancer comedians of this nature do not exist anymore because the conditions that produced them (vaudeville, burlesque) are long gone . 10 awesome years from these guys and the time together set each up to have a wonderful solo career. Put this alongside the Colgate shows and the radio shows and to a slightly lesser extent their movies and a picture of the fantastic talent becomes clear. Thanks!

I truly feel that without them being a team to start with neither one of them would became a success like they did.
This team was kinda a learning experience for both of them. They learned about timing and also playing off other people.
They went on to their own career but down deep they never forgot how the each started out. Wonderful piece of footage thank you for sharing this. I wasn't even thought of at this time, I really love finding these treasures.

Love the athleticism and physicality of Dean and Jerry in their heyday. Confidence in themselves and in each other is one of the keys here. Movies were OK but here and in their Colgate shows (particularly in the band sections) was the essence of this great act. Can't get enough of this!

Thanks, Steve- glad you're enjoying it- it's really a rare item, huh? Their real night club act, at THE night club. And you're totally right about the Colgate shows- they wrapped up every one with a glimpse of what you'd see at the Copa or Slapsy Maxie's.

Thanks for letting me in on that, it's pretty much what I thought. I think Jerry had the "heavier lifting", since he had to appear goofy without letting folks realize his generations of Catskills knowledge. Jerry was incredibly sophisticated, which I'm sure, is why Dean could relate to him - they both knew "Show Business" cold - so cold, they could goof around with it, which I'm willing to bet, is why they where so unique. You don't just fall out of bed and pull something like this off.

They were first and foremost the greatest nightclub act of all time, and that's why this film is so rare and special. And I love Dino's gesture at 7:36. They were having their problems by this time, but the love is still there.

@soapbxprod No wonder it's in such superb condition! Lewis produced his A&E Biography? That's fascinating. I remember that in their biography of Dean Martin, there was no mention whatsoever of Martin's first wife, the mother of most of his children!! He took the kids away at some point after marrying Jeanne and then she wound up being erased altogether from that biography. Unlike PBS's "American Masters" series, you never know what you'll see on A&E but that was the most egregious omission.

Yes I have seen on of the duets he did with Patti on there. It was a lot of fun. Did they ever sing a straight song together, to your knowledge? I've only heard of 2 comic ones that they did. And I didn't know that he wanted to be a cantor when he was younger. He certainly had a great voice for it, as evidenced in his tv version of The Jazz Singer where he filled in for his cantor father in the synagogue at the end. That was a beautiful scene.

If Sinatra was in the audience the line 'You keep drinking you'll wind up like Crosby!' would be directed at him. M and L also worked with Crosby . An excellent M and L radio show features him as a guest. Crosby was a radio genius. Some of Dean's laconic attitude may have been influenced by his radio persona. Also Dean's TV show theme Everybody.. was only partly sung and was self mocking way was very like Crosby singing his theme 'Where the Blue of the Night..' on his show. Great stars all!

Jerry and Dean appeared on the Hope/Crosby U.S. Olympic telethon. Jerry came out and jumped all over Bob, messing his hair up & going crazy on him. Bing disappeared off the stage. Jerry made a whole joke of trying to get Bing to come out but he never did. Bob said he was hiding & didn't blame him. Bing wouldn't come out because he thought Jerry would go crazy on his and pull off his toupee. Jerry got angry at him that he thought he would embarrass him on live tv, & he never spoke to him again.

So, THIS is the legendary comedy duo, at the height of their careers together, performing the equally legendary night club act that so many of us had heard about for SO many years, but never got a chance to see.
What a TREMENDOUS let-down! And I don't say that as a troll.......I am a HUGE fan of Martin and Lewis, and somehow should have known that these (night club) shows, that I've always heard were packing 'em in, and killing them night after night, just could NOT live up to all that 'hype' I've heard, for almost all of my 58 years on this Earth. What a shame.
Is it awful? No, of course not. It's just not that exciting....in fact, it's actually rather tame......if not (at times) outright boring.
And yes, I realize that seeing these now, VERY much out of context, is part of the problem. These two were doing something VERY new at the time, something "wild and crazy" for that era......but even so, there is just SO little here that is TRULY funny and/or entertaining. But I DO get it....what was so fresh and new then, is something now that is VERY 'old hat' (i.e., Been there, done, seen or heard, that!).
Also watering things down a bit, is the fact that a lot of their 'antics' had, by this point, turned up, one way or another, in many of the films (or radio/tv shows) they did together. So I realize now, that even though I'm getting to see an extended part of their night club act for the first time, I've already experienced quite a bit of the content, and/or interaction that made up these (nightclub) shows.
That said, I'm VERY grateful to finally see some of this, to at least get an idea of what all the 'furor' was about, back in the day. Just a shame, that in THIS day and age where we've seen, and heard it all before, that that fact has, unfortunately, denigrated the 'thrill' of getting to see something like this for the very first time.
Thank you very much for posting these 'quaint', though still fascinating, videos....

@@sdne1959 Your points are valid, but remember that this is just a blurred snippet from the end of a long act.
As they are winding down during this last 10 minutes, it is unlikely to be a good reflection of their more risque stuff not evident here.
The sound isn't as good as it would have been, it's in black and white and you are not seeing it in real life. Very different to actually being there. Sadly there's barely anything remaining from their live work.
Yes, their success was partly due to it being very new for that era, and there's no doubt they influenced later acts.
Clearly they were very good live for them to be such a huge success.
They somehow managed up to 8 shows a day, so may well have been tired here. Sheer stamina kept them going for 10 years, with The Colgate Comedy Hour, many films, plus many other appearances. They barely slept in between acts, such was their demand. Their charisma is still obvious.
I'd love to have seen them!
People are STILL discussing why they split up.
Quite something for an act from over 70 years ago!

I've always felt Lewis was a closet case.In his late years he gushed over his love for Martin.Which was over the top cringeworthy. I understand nostalgia but Lewis was in tears.
