With these ridiculously high salaries, you have to look at how the pension plan is burdened too. Municipal pensions often use as a base an average of the highest x number of salary years. So remember it’s not just one outrageous salary year, but an outrageous pension bump (generally for life) too.

Great response from the auditor. Honest, helpful, and finalized with suggestions. He didn’t have to write that letter, but he put himself out there so Canton would get that feedback. Just for comparison the max salary of a UK police constable is 61k USD . A town in the UK a similar size to canton would have a police force of 5 !!

Great response from the auditor. Honest, helpful, and finalized with suggestions. He didn’t have to write that letter, but he put himself out there so Canton would get that feedback. It may sting , but a bad audit would sting worse. I feel for your town, the meetings seem toxic , and that becomes exhausting. Great job on this video.
Don't just have Canton audited.. the state should audit the lot, throughly! Savings could be enormous, could see better expediture of rates/taxes.

Huge shoutout to Larry Smith for calling out all the messed up things in the RFP!! He laid out what an appropriate RFP & audit should look like. Now Canton citizens can be educated on what they should expect as bare minimum for a thorough audit, & the steps required for it to be successful.
I would add. .what a police investigation should include..evidence logs..evidence photos with measurements and location evidence was found..proper evidence supplies..evidence handling procedures..witness interview protocol. Securing a crime scene beginning to end

City Council- you also should just disband the entire department for one year. Close the doors. Fire no one - Just shut down the police deptaetment. Ya’ll can just call the county (Yes we know they are likely just as corrupt). Then in a year or two- hire an outsider. Who will rebuild a tiny department.
Arm yourselves w/ knowledge, friends & neighbors. A lot of this is public information. Know the reason why that cop has the best house in town & drives a new car. They're not captains of industry or mensa candidates. They're just lucky to know those in power. Peace.
