I don't know, but something about Shafran is just so captivating and for me, even in pieces that he plays that many consider to be rather absurd, I feel there is something very genuine and as you mentioned unique that really speaks for itself. a true master indeed!
I dislike him intensely (no pun intended) and can articulate pretty well why. You didn't ask for an explanation so I won't bother you with one here but I'd like to say that the tone of your comment seems a little inappropriate. Is your judgement superior to mine because it's yours? I'm skeptical that's a valid criterion.

this should have at least half a million views. Maybe one day....
After you've heard this piece with Shafran, you can't listen to anybody else play it.

Oskar Meier i think Mr Gorokhov studied by Anatoly Nikitin and Sergey Raldouguin! Daniil Shafran wasn’t a usual cello teacher... just for festivals.

It's probably his own - he takes quite a lot of "artistic license" in most things. He likely knew Shchedrin anyways.
