      Did you not pay attention to the metal community when he died? Do you not pay attention to the metal community today? Oli was is and forever will be a major influence in metal, and any guitarist that wants to know anything about guitar will end up knowing his name. Killswitch engage may have come first but all that remains is king.

    My man. I was born in Holyoke Massachusetts and Jon Donais (Anthrax now) and Matt Bachand, from Shadows Fall were from Holyoke as well and a few year behind me in school In 2011 or so in November, Jon was giving lessons at Tom Kopyto Studio in East Longmeadow Mass, during holiday time off, however Jon was booked and they suggested Oli, who I hadnt heard much of, but after looking at a few YT vids I said hell yea Im in. Awesome down to Earth guy, incredible skills. Sad that the nightmare of a woman took, or at least contributed to his demise. At our last lesson I asked if he could solo over my rhythm riffs, we jammed for 5 mins and at the end he said, dont put this on YT, I said I wouldnt, I did post it to my FB just to show my friends. Awesome person, glad to have known him for the 8 hours we spent together. Also went to a few local shows they had as his guest. RIP Oli, incredible person and guitarist.

  • @sixstringswl
    @sixstringswl 7 лет назад +25

    Right on. The circle of 5ths tells you to change 4s and 7s. But to look at it from minor that translates to 6 & 2. A Pentatonic is these notes plus the arpeggio. I've experimented with this before, just had no idea it was anything. All I knew was I liked the sound of 2 & 6 over minor chords. (Aeolian-ish) makes me think about a major 6 and minor 2 instead. No matter..... this article is inspiring.

    • @guillotinedeath
      @guillotinedeath 7 лет назад

      Wayne Love can you furthrr explain on how to understand why the circle of fiths tell u to ommit 4 and 7 and 6 and 2

    • @sixstringswl
      @sixstringswl 7 лет назад +1

      chito it actually doesn't tell you anything but the nature of the beast you're dealing with. It's not that is says to omit anything. It's what it tells you to change when you change keys. From the c major you flat the 7 and now you'll have the c mixolydian. The fifth mode. (Circle of 5s) but the inversions of 5 is 4. That said, sharp the 4th degree of the c major and now you have c lydian. The 4th mode. (Still a movement of 5, just the other way around the circle). If you take the minor arpeggio and add these two tones you'll have the minor pentatonic. Conversely, if you were to repeat this process but from a minor, (the 6th mode of c major) those same notes, 4&7 become 2&6. Now take a major arpeggio and add 2&6 to it. Viola! Major pentatonic. Or what he said too.... that's really cool! These scales are the same notes really. It's an easy concept that is really hard to explain well.

    • @sixstringswl
      @sixstringswl 7 лет назад +1

      Exactly! This particular thing could also be looked at like removing the semi-tones.
      If you reverse the use of 4&7 & 2&6, apparently, you get the hirojashi pentatonic.

    • @sixstringswl
      @sixstringswl 7 лет назад

      I like to think of it as an arpeggio. This way its a matter of what color you add to the triad/ chord. A little built in reassurance that you're sounding in key. To me, the other tones are acting as decorations.

    • @MrJam1001
      @MrJam1001 7 лет назад +4

      If you take the circle jerk of 5ths and flatten the tonic note by running it over with a steam roller will it turn into the Hiroshima scale and possibly blow your amp up?

    in my opinion the Hirajoshi emerges from the ground and needs bass notes in order to work. Those shrill notes in the upper register are just decoration. The power comes from rhythms that skip octaves. It's about power, not decoration. Nice playing, but the actual music is more important with this scale.
