Reminds me of Malcolm Xs biography, when he said; he was boxing a young white body and lost. He felt shame, because he said, the ring was the only place, a black man could beat a white man, and not get hanged for it.
Cali, you should try to reconcile your rage by admitting you cannot do anything about it and say goodbye to it. Unresolved rage does not cause essential hypertension but it does exacerbate it. Too many black people, mostly brothers, suffer from it. Some things just become too costly to bear. All the best.
Rage is the result of hate, which itself stems from fear, ignorance and impotence. Face your fear honestly, if you dare, and in so doing find courage. Educate yourself and learn to take action to change your own life, little by little, and in so doing banish ignorance and impotence. Do this, and there is no hate. If there is no hate, there is no rage. Then you will be a role model for others to follow. Why? Because impotent, ignorant rage and hate are not heirlooms to be passed on to those who then grow to think that's the way it should be without ever knowing why. And because no one should live in fear.
I always thought it was amusing how those three porters were ready to kill Malcolm after he dissed that white man who was their boss, but after he turns the radio back on and they hear more about Joe Louis' victory, they instantly start hugging Malcolm. Then when Malcolm enters Harlem, you see mass celebrations in the street over Louis victory. I guess it spoke volumes about how much of a hero Louis was to the black race back then.
There is a lot of backstory with the whole Joe Louis thing. Some 30-40 years earlier, it was Jack Johnson who was the premier black American athlete, being the first to become world heavyweight champ. Problem is his fame, or infamy rather, mostly came after he married a white woman and got arrested for violating the Mann Act, which banned bringing a woman across state lines for "immoral purposes." It was billed as a way to crack down on prostitution, but the law was so ambiguous it was used even to arrest consenting adults, especially when a black man would take a white woman to another state (same thing happened to Chuck Berry). Long story short, Jack Johnson was the type to do everything he could to piss off white people. He would beat other white boxers and throw it in white people's faces. Pretty much all of white America wanted to see Johnson get beaten. Joe Louis, on the other hand, learned from Jack Johnson's story. He made sure to do the exact opposite of everything Jack did. He never smiled in public, never showed up in public with white women (although he did cheat on his wife with white women, so he wasn't totally innocent), and never gloated about his wins. In fact, when asked how he felt about becoming the champ, he dismissed it saying, "I'm not the champ until I beat Max Schmeling." Joe's fame turned out much better, but mainly because he just happened to be an American boxer who was fighting a German boxer during the WW2 era. Max Schmeling wasn't even a supporter of the Nazi regime, and Joe wasn't trying to be America's hero, they just wanted to fight. There's a good movie about them both called "Joe and Max" that pretty much sums up what they both went through in and out of the ring.
@@KenpoKid77 And to add on to what you're saying, Louis, in contrast to Johnson and even Ali, never threw his arms up in the air in the ring after defeating an opponent. It would have portrayed him as "uppity" and would have gotten him into further trouble, like it did Johnson. Also, it was imperative that he KOed an opponent, because given the fact that he was a black fighter, there would have been no way the judges would awarded him a decision over a white opponent. I think it's sad how some today thought he was a "Tom" because he was not outspoken about America's racism in the manner that Ali was. But his low-key demeanor was what enabled him to hold the world heavyweight title for 11 years (a record that will probably never be broken) and open the door for future black champions, including Ali.
