    Her first 3 albums are masterpieces IMO. She was untouchable in the 90's.

    • @krautgazer
      @krautgazer 5 лет назад +59

      I feel like she only made masterpieces, at least in her solo career (not so much with the Sugarcubes). Her first 3 albums (Debut, Post and Homogenic) are certainly more accessible and full with perfect weird pop songs, but her next 3 albums are also so incredible and forward-thinking with her exploration of microbeats (Vespertine), vocals (Medúlla) and big production (Volta). Biophilia is a declaration of love for music, comparing it to the very nature we inhabit and exploring the relationship between music theory and science. Her last 2 albums (Vulnicura and Utopia) are so goddamn emotional and intimate that they always make me cry with how raw she sounds when exploring her personal story with love and a saddening heartbreak, and instrumentally they're more organic than before with intricate arrangements and acoustic instruments. She's one of those rare artists with a 100% perfect discography so far.

    The thing with this song... I’ve been listening to it for 20+ years. 20 YEARS! And I didn’t catch that bass line just RECENTLY (W/ the use of a “good” pair of headphones). It’s one of my top three favorite beats she’s created. Also, there’s another verse (maybe multiple verses) to this song that makes it even deeper. Ugh. So good.

  • @lauriemayhew2279
    @lauriemayhew2279 3 года назад +7

    I love how she stretches words out over several beats. Each syllable gets it's own note, or two, or three, like "e-mo-tion-a-a-l." It mirrors the expansive landscape that she's singing about, as well as the the bird's eye view of Iceland in the music video. Debut, Post, Homogenic and Vespertine are my favorite albums. Volta is my favorite later album. The other two later ones didn't grab me

    Its really interesting how people who are not familiar with Bjork react to her music for the first time, sometimes they find beauty and some others they really dont get it at all. Its great that you guys liked it. It would be great if you consider react to I CANT BELIEVE ITS OVER (version 2) by BENT, they make stuff many times sampling old songs by artists like Demi Roussos or Billie Holiday. They are really kind of unknown but they have done amazing music that only can be traced if you get really into a deep search on internet. If youd like to get a sense of what they are it could be helpful to listen: Different Hill, As you fall, Bewitched as i am, On the lake, Kisses, Felinis Roma and This i must remember.

    I’m in the middle of stepping into responsibility in a family crisis where my father is being hospitalized right now. And I have never really heard Björk before I was aware of her but hadn’t really listened closely. And this song and a lot of her songs seem to be about lookingdirectly at stress and crisis and sometimes that is ecological crisis especially with her later stuff or emotional crisis or relationship crisis any kind of critical point and turning transforming it into an emergence rather than just what we think of as an emergency

    When you love great string arangements like this I highly recomment: Listen to Stonemiker from Björk WITH HEADPHONES!

    You should definitely react to Lionsong by Bjork the vocals and strings just sound so strange together but in a really amazing way. Crystalline is good too, and has much more electronic elements.
    I just found your channel so I don’t know what music exactly you’re into or if you look at videos, but Björk’s videos are amazing!

    You guys are sleeping on some of the best music ever created by humans.
    I recommend another pioneer in sound around the time of Bjork, look up Aphex Twin.

    A lot of people were put off by the electronic sounds on such pieces as this and Hyperballad back when they first came out. Years later everybody was emulating the very sound that was once off putting to them. She was the equivalent of a flying car in the era of stagecoaches.
