One of Neil Young’s masterpieces. What a stone groove.
Neil and Crazy Horse really had it together for this album ... there's a groove throughout that spans songs and brings it all together ... like the Lebowski's rug!
@@bigrollinghome2091 .that is sooooooooo funny and so TRUE Peace and Love :)
I'll be right back...
Yes, more Neil on this channel would be great! There are lots of good options for your next Neil song, but a natural follow up would be "Cowgirl in the Sand", another long song with lots of jamming from the same album as "Down by the River", and in my opinion, an even better song.
Always enjoy your reactions! More Neil Young, please!
Neil's vocals and that driving bass guitar beat give song such a vibe.
I vividly recall first hearing this album back in the day and it was one of the first times I fully understood the dramatic effect music had when the channels were properly separated for various instruments and chords, it really blew my mind and I never heard music the same again.
love, love Neil Young all the time/anytime. Another beautifully written and performed song.🥰
Love this. Neil and Danny Whitten going back and forth on guitars. Rhythm section keeping it together.
This was one of Young's early finest moments on guitar; using 'Old Black' a faithful Les Paul, Neil delivers some unique yet searing licks
and completes a fantastic track with it. The bass line is excellent, too. Neil's guitar playing is very underrated. This tune is a mood that keeps on giving. Thanks, Biz, for playing Neil. You should listen to 'Powder Finger,' 'Cortez, The Killer,' and 'Like A Hurricane.'
Neil's guitar skills were UNIQUE! AND GREAT
Love this song, musically outstanding. Vocal arrangement masterful. My first Niel Young. It was a blessing to my ears.
You need to listen to his album output at his peak from 69 to 72, Everybody Know This Is Nowhere, After the Goldrush and Harvest.
Neil said in an interview that this song is about ending a relationship, he didn't actually shoot her!
I’ve been listening to this song for decades . Such a groove, such a vibe! Neil young knows how to be understated but so soulful . He really is a master .
This is an outstanding album!! I agree with Otis, Cowgirl in the Sand would be a good follow up.
Yup and Cinnamon Girl...and Ragged Glory album
Check out .Soldier on Decade.
It ROCKS.
I'm so glad you are doing Neil Young. I can't wait to see what other tracks you've done. I know this guitar solo by heart, of course, I'm playing air guitar. I was at Madison square Garden in NYC '75 enjoying an electric Neil Young. Midway he takes a long break, comes back and announces the Vietnam war is over. The crowd went crazy, the lights went down and he ripped into Southern man. After the Gold Rush, is a phenomenal album as is the song After the Goldrush. ❤
Yeah, me too, air guitarists manifesto.👍
One of my favorite songs by him. Another one is a Civil War setting song, Powderfinger. It's incredible.
Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere -- I played the hell out of this record back when. "Cinnamon Girl" kicks it off, "Down by the River" pushes it along, "Cowgirl in the Sand" finishes it off in preparation for "Southern Man", the fiery rocker from After the Gold Rush that prompted Lynyrd Skynyrd to write "Sweet Home Alabama". Neil Young dropped three all time great classic albums in a row in the early seventies -- Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere, After the Gold Rush, and Harvest. The songs from all three of those albums filled the airwaves throughout the seventies. Check out the studio recording of "Heart of Gold" with backing vocals by Linda Ronstadt and James Taylor.
Exactly Mike, you summarized Neil's amazing early work and was a huge part of the music from that time..
Harvest was so so even he said it put him in the middle of the road...too many wimps never listen to his good stufff...Try Ragged Glory Album
Check out God Made Me.
It ROCKS
One of his late 60’s/early 70’s run of “masterworks”. Man, he had a run of gold records!
Peace
Biz….. something a little heavier “Cortez The Killer” my personal favorite from Neil…🔥🎸❤️ off the album
Neil Young & Crazy Horse “Live Rust” (1979) you can thank me later 😂🤣😂🎸
Even though Neil Young is from Canada, he is still a great American. And, he is The MAN. You just can't find a bad song by The MAN, they're all good. Especially this one.
My favorite Neil Young album. Cowgirl in the Sand and Cinnamon Girl are a couple other great songs on this album.
Oh hell yeah! My favorite Neil Young album. Crazy Horse was the perfect compliment backup group.
Cowgirl on the Sand from the same album. Same style with long guitar solos. Great Job.
Good analogy. In case anyone missed it, this recording is a blow the walls down master class on every single note that can be played by a guitar in the class of E M. Truly masterful.
"Cortez the Killer" is worth a future reaction if you havent yet done its one of Neils best imo
A Neil Young marathon is in order! Followed by a Bob Dylan marathon!
YesssNeil Young more Neil the whole package big fan since bout 1970
Really love this song Neil is amazing.
Neil has strong appeal. Been following Neil since the seventies. Neil can riff on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on…
You should react to his live performances because he was always better live
Live Music Is Better
Biz looked like he was tripping there.😊
More Neil Biz .. how about Cortez the Killer
Hands down the best guitar solo in rock history.
Lol come on now.
Here u go Biz Excellent pick. Great,Great, song!!!!
The GUITAR WORK........ what more can I say. Some of he best guitar work I've ever heard.....
Highly underrated song!!!! Probably my fav!!!
This whole album is fire. The title track is killer. It's great end to end. When I listen to this album I feel like I'm just sitting in the garage of some really talented guys that are just feeling it.
If you like this. Try "Cortez the Killer".
My all-time favourite Neil song, just the sickest damn groove, and brilliant soloing by Neil on Old Black. He wrote this in bed with 100F+ fever, and it feels like it. If you like the studio cut, you should check out a live version, he and the Horse jam the hell out of this song live. Great choice and great reaction - peace and love from Canada!
Gotta see the Buddy Miles version of this..We would drop some Qualuds..Rorer 714 and listen to alot of Neil Young..back in my days..
Young wrote Cinnamon Girl, Down by the River and Cowgirl in the Sand back to back to back while in bed with a 102 degree Fever. Billy Talbot plays a mean bass.
Now that's a masterpiece
Great song and album, one of Neals best. Try Cowgirl in the Sand from the same album, another rock epic. Neal IS Dope! Enjoy. 🎵🎸🎤🎹🎶
Rock and roll royalty! 42 solo albums, and other calibrations puts it like 50 something albums 🤯🥳✌️❤️🫡 grandpa grunge!
I really like this song of Neil’s, love the guitar , thank you.
LOOOOVE THIS SONG!
Pearl Jam refer to Neil Young as the grandfather of grunge music they reference Down by the river and cortez the killer as inspiration.
Have you reacted to Cortez the killer or Cowgirls in the sand yet?
Oh Pleeze..."Cinnamon Girl"....the most famous 1-note solo in rock...and the song is a wormhole that lives in your head rent free.
Sung in bars in the 60's and on...so pure rock...nothing' deep.
Oh Neil. Little, timeless gem.
Yup but need Live Version of Cinnamon Girl with chick's dancing
Check out Neil doing Cinnamon Girl on acoustic guitar. It ROCKS
Looking back on it now, I realize what a gift he was after his split with CSN.
Great choice, one of my favorite songs of all time. Neil makes his guitar sing. I love seeing this through your eyes, it’s like hearing it again for the first time! 🙏❤️🙏.
Stay in this LP brother.
☮️💙💙💙🔥🔥😎love Neil!!
Young was laying down tracks for Motown in his early days. Always loved his stuff. Buffalo Springfield was great with him too.
It's a doing drugs down by the river song... shot a day, shot a day...
HEYYYYYYY!!! LMAO 😊SOHHHHH, WHAT MADE YOU WANT SOME OF THIS BIZ, FINALLYYYY SOME GUITAR WALING NEIL, I LIKE! 💯😊NIIIIICCCE BIZ, INSANE AWESOME SONG, JUST 1 OF MANYYYYY OF COURSE!
The dog's name was Winnipeg. 🌜
This is why he’s “the Godfather”
Peace
Powder Finger from Neil Young and Crazy Horse album Rust Never Sleeps, one of my all time favorites!
Neil was probably the first artiste to put 10+minute tracks on albums .
Absolutely 💯 love Neil Young, Personally this isn't one of my favourite songs of his, the catalogue of songs of his is virtually endless
Can you give me any Neil Young song recommendations?
@@duder4480google Neil Young songs 🎵, they're all on RUclips
to me one of the best tunes ever written, Neil is different
Great tune .Don,t forget Danny Whitten though. His guitar playing on this is exceptional. Danny also wrote the world wide hit Rod Stewart and others enjoyed ."I don,t want to talk about it: RIP Danny😢
Wow, out of all the, Neil Young, songs I've heard. This is one I haven't. My hubby, new the song, he's, 5 years older then I. You, must of pulled this song of, Neil, out of that special hat of yours, Thanks Joyce Minter Dalton.
“This much madness…it’s impossible to make it today.”
I guess every age feels this, life is just that way.
It is really weird hearing a happy-sounding yet dark Neil Young song. One of my favs.
I'm pretty sure he is a nut case that murdered a woman by the river.
@@gregharker1600 I’ve always interpreted this song as being about heroin. The baby in question being his last hit of heroin. She could be taking him over the rainbow. Down by the river, he took the hit. Then, the guitar solo is the ramping up of his high.
@@gregharker1600
I think a nut case would interpret it that way.
Another great one of dozens by Neil. Try a more guitar licking rocker called Like a Hurricane, especially as we are in Hurricane season! From what I was told that Neil said in an interview that the song is about a relationship with trials and tribulations he was going through not that Neil was going to shoot anyone though just made him end his being tortured by this lady.
HE PLAYS SUCH INCREDIBLE MUSICAL CHORDS BIZ, IT'S DEFINITELYYYY UNIQUE AND DIFFERENT! 😊TO THINK THAT IS FROM HIS 70 ALBUM ( EVERYBODY KNOWS THIS IS NOWHERE ) 😊IT'S ALWAYS GREAT TO LISTEN TO THE ROCKING RANTING NEIL BIZ!👍 THE LONER, LIKE A HURRICANE, POWDERFINGER, SEDAN DELIVERY, WELFARE MOTHERS, ETC ETC ETC! TAKE GREAT CARE BIZ, GREAT STUFF MAN!
Best live version of this track is the one Neil performs with his band "Crazy Horse"
Neil shred the guitar it fantastic performance
I loved that you applauded the guitar work between Whitten and Neil. Neil is phenomenal, but Whitten’s addition are so timely. Have you listened to On The Beach album?? Some great music throughout. Good reaction, it W’s obvious you Felt it.👍
More Neil Young will be awesome! Please review Powderfinger, and I'm the Ocean
Yo Biz, "murder ballads" are a deep tradition in Appalachian folk music and later in blue grass and old timey country music. There are countless songs of murdering lovers over the smallest slight. It makes the outrage over the Rap & Hip-Hop community particularly hypocritical when the complainers don't even know the roots of their own music.😢
RAP IS CRAP not music same old garbage beat
Check out Deep Forbidden Lake
It ROCKS
CINNAMON GIRL-NEIL YOUNG
"Cortez The Killer" , "Crime In The City", or "Eldorado" would be my choices. "Cinnamon Girl" is ok too.
a nearly 20 minute live performance of this is on youtube with Crazy Horse and its screaming soaring guitar fuzz and grunge and punk and thunder. worth a watch for a heavier version of this song.
Frank "Pancho" Sampedro-Guitar and Vocals, Billy Talbot-Bass and Vocals, Ralph Molina-Drums and Vocals and Neil Young-Guitar and Vocals=Crazy Horse. One of the greatest bands ever assembled. Not famous on their own, but together....unparalled.
Unparalleled. Oops.
This was before Poncho joined. This is the original Crazy Horse line up with Danny Whitten on guitar and vocals. Before playing with Neil and becoming Crazy Horse they were a doo wop singing group hence the great harmonies
Buddy miles has a long version of this song a must listen. It's 13 minutes long
I would recommend that you also try some of Stephen Stills solo catalog. Very blues oriented, I have always thought that Stephen Stills was the heart of C,S,N and sometimes Y.
listen to cowgirl in the sand and cinammon girl by Neil Young on same album, great ocknrol , solos singing
He also has a live version of this song but only like 5 mins long
Neil Young, the godfather of grunge
You know you've just listened to quality. Pioneering stuff. There is a longer version.
Here's an acoustic version, "Niel Young - The Loner/ Cinnamon Girl [Acoustic]" he and his band Crazy Horse released this song on their 1969 album "Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere" The single "Cinnamon Girl" was released in 1970 and it reached #55 on the Billboard Hot 100...in other words a Banger❤🔥❤🔥
Hey Biz, you sound a bit hoarse, hope you're not getting sick. I hope you're having a good day; we really appreciate your reactions. Thanks 4 sharing💜
This is not Acoustic...should Play Crosby Stills Nash and Young Carry on live...something like 14 minutes long
Check out . Deep Forbidden Lake
On Decade. It ROCKS
Haunting song
DopeAF.
Loved this ! Thanks
This is a great song live with CSN&Y with Stills and Young’s guitar play, back and forth…
Try "cinnamon girl"
From " Everybody Know This is Nowhere ", the first of seven great solo albums in a row, some with Crazy Horse such as this one. Not forgetting CSNY.
Neil's shorter acoustic rendition - live 1971: ruclips.net/video/Up0dI-QpqF8/видео.html
More Neil. how about A Man Needs A Maid
Crazy Horse has done a few albums on their own without Neil which are also worth listening to. 🎶 🇨🇦
His best tune besides after the goldrush
About Time you did the ELECCTRIC than the wimpy Acoustic...
Down By The River acoustic guitar
ROCKS
Neil young was one of the first white artists to be signed up by Tamla Motown. 😅
Neil Young everyday. She could take me over the rainbow and send me away. Down by the river I shot my baby. Dead. 😇😅
Lotta euphemisms, so why did he shoot her anyway? Kinda violent for ole Neil. Four Dead in Ohio was anti-violence. At any rate he shot her dead, good and dead. Eclectic ole Neil.
You need to be eatin' some snausage while you are reading your schlyrics. Great Canadian singer/songwriter, Neil Young has so many good ones. Of course, this is his song but you should hear it by another fellow Canadian, Joey Gregorash. I think you will like it. ruclips.net/video/j8A9ygMfFBA/видео.html
Check out roy Buchanan's version
Powderfinger
Honestly ...............".LIVE" .........................don't know which is better this, or Cortez ?
Such loss when Dhanney passdd
Alway been a huge Neil fan and love this song but always thought the lyrics were great until the "Shot my baby" which seemed was off his social advocate path, even as I was a teen. Perhaps "Caught my baby" would have not seemed so out of character. Same goes for Jimi Hendrix "Hey Joe". Lyrics seem out of character even though he is talking about Joe committing the crime he certainly throws his improvisation into that part of the lyrics. Love that song too but makes me uncomfortable with it for that reason. Both legendary musicians despite that ...
Is that dog crapping on the ground?
