On the album after "Prayers for Rain" this song begins with the sound of thunder and rain. It's one of the most epic transitions in pop music history. For me "The Same Deep Water As You" and the entire Disintegration album is the soundtrak to my trip to Asia when I was a young backpacker in 1989. I was gone for 14 months and whenever I hear this I'm instantly transported back to the jungles of Sumatra, or riding the rails of India. It's probably my favorite collection of all time.
My ex hated that they use The Cure's music and other modern songs in this movie because "they didn't have that type of music back then." True, but feelings, emotions, and the human experience were still the same. Joy and sorrow. Struggles and triumphs. Fond memories and regrets. I thought it was wonderful.
