My very first sale once I started back reselling was a nightmare. New old stock in a sealed box… I took an offer and when customer received the item they said it was used and said either give me $30 back or I will leave a negative comment. After some back and forth I told them to send the item back for full refund. They never did but I still got negative feedback. It was a little frustrating but sales since then have been fine so far. Also I hope you enjoy the empire toy bat and ball. It’s a thank you gift for what you do for so many resellers out there. Hope you and your family have a great thanksgiving.
Critics are bored and need a life. You have been great. I left for a year all RUclips eBay people to explore something different. Am so glad to be back. Watching your stuff is honestly what I do as a stress reliever. So thank you. 🙏
kinda off topic but I just did two partial refunds one for shipping charged way to much so sent him back the extra and last night I sold a shirt was packing it and noticed a stain on the back I didn't point out in the listing contacted him with a pic of the stain and said hey I'm thinking about canceling the order I don't want someone to be unhappy with one of my items or I could give you a 5 dollar refund if you still want it he replied and said I still want it I'm the stain master lol I guess that means he can get any stain out and was really happy to have the 5 bucks back. I think this is a good lesson not to be hesitant to reach out to your buyers if you're worried about something
AGREE! Finally someone with some common sense. Many resellers will say It’s the cost of doing business with is so crazy. I have never given in if I felt they just wanted money. When I tell them send it back they never do. I had one send me a picture of the item I sent broken but they were so dumb to leave the time stamp with a date of two years ago. Never heard from them again😂 I say never give in right away.
I used to do partial refunds once in a while when it was seemed like a trustworthy event, but they are happening so much more frequently lately that I have stopped the practice and ask them to return it and you’re right less than half the time do they we’ve gotta stick together and shut down the scammers
100% agree. I sold a village piece that had several issues. I just didn’t want to throw it away and thought someone might be able to restore it. I disclosed all of it with many pictures. Buyer messaged me on the 29th day after the sale telling me I had packaged it badly and he wanted an immediate refund. I told him to return it. He did start a return but never returned it. He then left a very nasty negative feedback. I messaged eBay and they removed it. I only refund without a return if it’s just not worth it or if I’m sure it’s my fault.
I always enjoy waking up and having your videos playing in the background as I list items to eBay or pack orders only been doing this for yr today and have learned so much from watching your videos thank you!
I have a similar policy with you. If I I feel like they are fishing for a refund, I simply say send it back, because finding a refund amount that satisfies both can be a slippery slope. This mostly works except for one time, a buyer wanted me to PAY THEM FOR THEIR TIME going to the post office. In the end sometimes full refunds and letting them keep it saves time / money / headaches, BUT you do have to swallow your pride, ego, righteousness.
Hey Kevin Love the show, I had a person that purchased a camera, after it was shipped they filed a dispute with their credit card company. I had USPS intercept the package and send it back. The day it was showing it would have been delivered they messaged me and asked where the camera was. I would rather pay USPS for the intercept than to let someone scam me out a a $100 sale
I agree with you definitely. Ive only has to give a full refund if the post office damaged the package or the item was new and sealed but didn't work. In most cases I can tell if someone just wants that partial and keeps the item. I do my best not to get hassled because like you, I test everything and clean everything, so there is no room for errors or mistakes
Great advice. I’ve learned from your videos to keep the pepper perspective when the occasional scammer makes themselves known… sometimes BEFORE the sale with excessive and persnickety questions.
Never, ever give a partial refund. I was coaching a new seller. Sure enough, she got a request for a partial refund. I told her, never do it! She did, as buyer told her item was flawed ($25 sweater, gave a $10 part refund). Sure enough, the buyer reposted the same item for $250.....Now if an item legitimately is damaged in shipping, sure, I've given a partial refund.
In the past week, I've had multiple offers and then retracted moments later. I've had 3 cancellations as well and waiting for them to ship back. I was thinking they were looking for a refund rather than returning. I only refund once I confirm the buyer's reason and been returned.
I seen you ran into Julian and Kayla from the Bearded Thrift Machine. They showed that on their channel. I think it would be exciting to run into a RUclipsr while thrifting. Scams are going on right now. It's been a learning experience for me. Make sure when you list shoes, take pictures of both shoes together showing the size. I had someone say they received shoes from me that were different sizes, yet they didn't return them to get their money back.
sadly that policy spilled over from Amazon. with the majority of all lower cost orders, if you complain you'll get refund and can also keep the stuff since it's just deathpile for them. now customers expect this from ebay sellers as well
I just had a return for a brand new pair of merrell hiking boots. 20 days after the sale they returned them to me in obvious used condition with tread wear. I really wanted to only partial refund but just avoided the hassle and gave a full. I could still make a little selling as pre owned now.
I knew a woman who would go "high end" shopping for clothes if she had a function to go to. She would wear said item to function then returned to store for a refund saying she had changed her mind. She went so far as to owning a tagging gun.
Just happened to me this week. They didn't come right out and ask for a partial refund they kept saying what can we do? I told them send it back I accept returns no problem. They kept it another week or so and left negative feedback and they even said I wouldn't work anything out other than to return it. I contacted eBay, they said there's nothing they can do
Best thing to do is to reply to the feedback professionally, so everyone else can see that the buyer was the one being unreasonable. Crazy buyers are just part of the numbers game that is selling on ebay. They can't be avoided. The best you can do is to make sure anyone looking at your profile instantly realizes that you aren't the one who was being unreasonable.
@kibble-net repeat ebay customer here, what you said is 100% true. Typically I won't buy from sellers with multiple bad feedbacks. But a few where the seller responded back in a normal non threatening way explaining the situation always makes me feel better when deciding to buy from that seller. You can always tell who was in the wrong just by the comments.
I haven’t had much trouble with the kinds of scammers you mentioned. It’s been a long time since I got a negative feedback and suddenly got 3 within a span of a week. No contact from the buyer, just got cranky and left a negative feedback. I was able to get one removed. The other 2 I will have to put up with for the next year. Very disappointing. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family❤️
I look over my items very well and try to take good photos. When I get the ‘you failed to disclose….’, I go right to the photos. That’s when I tell them to send it back.
My favorite is when you tell them "Okay very sorry please open up a return" and they are all friendly like "ohh sure thanks for getting back to me" and then just never do it. There are definitely some snakes out there in some of the electronics categories.
I have sold a couple of bibles for good profit. One was a large print study bible that sold for $35. The other was an English-Hebrew bible. It sold for $87. I paid $5 each for the Bible’s. Both were leather bound and in really good condition. Both sold within a few weeks of listing.
Most of my partial refunds are just me compensating for some USPS failure. Late delivery, damages, etc. For example...sold a NIB lego set, arrived with the box crushed in transit. Seller sent pics, and then accepted a 50% off partial refund.
I have a weakness for animated plush toys. I enjoy cleaning and testing them (though my dog HATES them). When I sell them on eBay, the buyer will sometimes claim that they don't work after they get them. (I always test them before I list them and test them again before shipping as they can be long tail.) When I can, I quiz the buyer before taking any action: Did they use fresh batteries, did they switch it "on", did they press the button, etc. About half of the time, I get a "Thanks for your help!". Some just return them for a refund (they usually still work fine, so are relisted) and one gave me a sob story about how the vintage animated plush was given as a gift to a child and their birthday was ruined because the toy didn't work. I refunded without return that time because the kid still wanted to keep it (or the parents threw it away?).
Who pays for the return shipping Kevin.? I had a item that broke person sent photos. It was a heavy item. I told them to keep it and issued full refund
I'm the same way. It happened recently. I sold a skiing jacket, youth size. I always check all my items. I even laundered this jacket, and it was in perfect condition. I get a message how the holes to put the gloves thumbs through were falling apart and broken in pieces, and she wouldn't have paid that much for it, if this had been disclosed, blah, blah. I said, " I'm sorry this is happening. Send it back. I will accept the return. " Didn't want to return cause her son still wanted it. Gave me 2 stars. 😆
When I first started, I was so nervous about getting a negative review I would refund ASAP. Now a 1.5 yrs later I will gladly accept a return in 30 days, then refund. I've only once negotiated a partial refund.
I agree with you 100% on this one, CWP…I don’t offer partial returns except on a very rare and specific type of situation. A buyer purchased a holiday interactive toy/decor item. She got it and was livid because it didn’t work. I suggested perhaps it needed fresh batteries. Lo and behold she put new ones in and it worked fine. Then she was mad still and accused me of sending it with bad batteries. I said ma’am, I’ve had this item for quite a while. I bought several and we have one we use in our own family and love it. So I apologize if I forgot to check the batteries before I shipped it. Either you can send it back and I’ll give you a full refund or I’ll refund you $5 and that will cover fresh batteries. I gave her the choice and she kept it and I sent her $5.
@@staceya3030yes, it’s a good idea and typically I do this as well. But if it’s new in box/package and I can’t even test it then I state that the batteries will likely need to be replaced.
I sold some Tap shoes that were new with extra screws. They were returned because they were too small but they didn't have the screws. I only gave a partial refund because now they were missing the screws.
I’m in Australia and eBay have different rules here. I don’t do refunds period as I sell low cost items so it’s easier to refund rather than be out of pocket on additional postage which is way higher than the USA prices
No partial refunds from me. I have no problem giving full refunds (with free returns) for any reason, provided I get the item back, but partial refunds just complicate book keeping and make life difficult. If someone is truly unhappy, or even if they've just had a change of heart, they'll send the item back. On the flipside, if someone sends back a new item damaged or in any condition other than what it was shipped to them in, I will keep part of their money. They can give me the partial refund if they mess with my merchandise. :)
I’m done with partial returns. I ask for the item to be returned to me. I also give them a discount on something else in my store if they choose to keep the “broken” item. Nothing more than 15%
I would always ask item to be returned. Sales month to month down but up year over year. Was hoping for a better quarter over quarter but that’s not happening. Last year, my 1st quarter was better than its previous 4th quarter.
I noticed even Temu is asking for photos of damage items on some items. I believe on items over $10 they ask for photos,. They will allow you one refund and keep one item out of your shipment but you do have to purchase a minimum of $15.
I had a guy claim a ton of things didnt work on a tape deck that was fully tested. I asked him to open a return and offered a full refund. He then said he was poor, blind and crippled and couldn't possibly return it. Said he couldn't afford food or meds because he bought this unit. Left negative feedback saying I refused to refund.
I had a sale that the buyer ask for a cancellation, apparently Ebay didn't cancel it when they click, so I tried to cancel and Ebay went ahead with the sale with the label and everything. I explained to the buyer that I would do the refund minus Ebay's fee they took out(which they took out more than they should have, from my calculation). But so far buyer is happy with the partial refund. I hadn't sent the item out.
I have never sent a partial refund, I have either fully refunded and told them to keep the item (rarely) or most of the time told them to request a refund through Ebay and only about 1/3 of those people actually do (normally they just disappear). If they repeatedly request the refund but do not go through ebay I block them.
We sell sets of vintage drinking glasses and sometimes one will break in shipping. If they show pics and it’s our packaging for sure we will give a partial refund. Otherwise we offer a full refund if they choose to send it back(at their cost). Happened last week on an item. Someone was fishing for a partial refund and we offered a full refund if sent back. Btw they never opened a refund to buyer claim. So their fishing expedition came up empty.
Return no matter what. $500 Chrome Hearts glass... positive feedback then came back 3 days later claiming damage and not as described blah blah blah... I told her to return. I got called names. Bible (red letter, tabs, specific denominations) dude sent pics of all the damage noted and pictured on the listing, refused to return. Last night I got a CC dispute. Dude sent a 50 off or more offer. I declined, "What the best price you can do?", The last one sold at $75. Middle of the night he messaged again, "It's a nice shirt I just can't afford it would u take 55" then 5 minutes later paid full price. They got the shirt on the 21st. I'm over the renters too. adjustable bracelet $400 native american..."doesn't fit"
I love scammers...not. What part of "thou shalt not steal" don't they get? If it's food so you can eat, it's one thing, but stealing from an eBay selller...awww c'mon. When I sold, MY TOS said: I don't do partial refunds due to scammers. I check things in detail, but every so often I miss something. If I did please contact me. That said, I did open a return on something last year; the SELLER was a scammer, drop-shipping from Amazon and using their free shipping to send it for nothing. Drop-shipping is allowed, but only if the seller owns the merchandise already.
I have never given a partial refund. Either they send it back or they don’t. If they ship it back and it comes back in the same condition I sent it and complete, then I’ll give a refund. Had one recently that was a numbered and signed ornament. She said the foot on the angel was broken. I told her to send me a picture of the back so I could verify that it was the same one sent and sure enough I never heard from her again.
Caught one tonight. Item starting bid 50. Buy it now 125. Bid 51 52 55. Mag from eBay item is no longer available. Call them they say seller is rejecting bids below buy it now rate. Wth
No return No refund is my policy unless it is obviously my fault. I see perhaps 2 scam per year and I have about 2500 sales per year. My buyers are great but that may just be the items I sell.
From my latest purchase, I think I may have an example of a seller’s scam. I bought an item than was only about $6.00. A few days later, I got a message from the seller saying something went wrong with the shipping and it was returned and is no longer deliverable. They said they have no other items like it , so they’ll have to refund me. Please know there were a few postings at time of purchase. I got another message this morning that they’ve refunded my account. 8 hours later and my account still doesn’t have the money in it. Idk what the goal is other than these two things: (1) they hope I won’t notice or pursue my refund and they keep my money; and/or, (2) they regret offering it for so cheap, so they’re reneging. Maybe something else? Their initial message was very long, as if this is a generic message they send out frequently. Also, I did respond to first message and their second message didn’t react to my query. I’m so annoyed because it seems fishy and I wanted the item for a gift. Also, it’s worrisome that maybe they can use my info. somehow. Scammers are scum, I scream and won’t succumb. Thanks for your content and thoughtful vids.
I had a lady purchase a new latch hook factory sealed from me & said it wasn't what she wanted. I told her to open. A return & send it back for a refund, she then said she gave it away as a gift and didn't have it anymore and wanted me to give her a refund or she's giving me a bad feedback. She didn't get a refund and left me a bad feedback and eBay removed it.
I had a bad one this weekend. They submitted for a refund and took a picture of an item that was not what I had sent them. Not even close. It is awful how some people are so evil. So far I’ve always asked for a return but if was sent a pic of a broken item I would prob go ahead and have them keep it.
Quick question...Is that an officially licensed Steve Miller Band t-shirt? If not, you are part of the problem. If it is legit, on behalf of the Steve Miller Band...Thank You.
If I believe it was due to my error I will do a partial refund otherwise they must return. I have very few. In 2 years I think I’ve given 1 partial because it was something I missed disclosing.
Most bibles are worth nothing. Family history recorded in it can make it valuable as that may be the only record in existence. A famous owner or family will also help. I paid $2.50 for a box of items and in it was a common 1860s Bible, but it contained family history dating back to the 1700s. Multiple branches of the family bid it up to $100 solely based on the family history and due to it belonging to a ancestor.

If someone is truly unhappy, or even if they've just had a change of heart, they'll send the item back.
On the flipside, if someone sends back a new item damaged or in any condition other than what it was shipped to them in, I will keep part of their money. They can give me the partial refund if they mess with my merchandise. :)
This works great in theory, but in practice they tell ebay the item is "not as described" and end up getting a full refund
I crazy glue all the screws on the electronic devices I sell!
Had a person beg to sell a 12$ Buzz LY car to them needed overnight to PUERTO RICO 57$ to ship 🤔🤔🤔 told them couldn’t do it
I had a guy claim a ton of things didnt work on a tape deck that was fully tested.
I got one pending right now buyer saying that my Lego was chipped but he's sending me his broken one for my good one
100% agree.
I had a bad one this weekend. They submitted for a refund and took a picture of an item that was not what I had sent them. Not even close. It is awful how some people are so evil.
So far I’ve always asked for a return but if was sent a pic of a broken item I would prob go ahead and have them keep it.
Hopefully you reported them to ebay.
Quick question...Is that an officially licensed Steve Miller Band t-shirt? If not, you are part of the problem. If it is legit, on behalf of the Steve Miller Band...Thank You.
,thanks
If I believe it was due to my error I will do a partial refund otherwise they must return. I have very few. In 2 years I think I’ve given 1 partial because it was something I missed disclosing.

Most bibles are worth nothing. Family history recorded in it can make it valuable as that may be the only record in existence. A famous owner or family will also help.
I paid $2.50 for a box of items and in it was a common 1860s Bible, but it contained family history dating back to the 1700s. Multiple branches of the family bid it up to $100 solely based on the family history and due to it belonging to a ancestor.
Loved the joke . 😅
