My family abandoned exchanging gifts several years ago at my urging. We are not rich but we all have what we need and gift giving for several of us had become a chore. Just getting to spend time together with everyone's hectic schedule is a blessing. I have been participating in Clark's Christmas Kids for several years now and it is truly the spirit and meaning of the season. Thanks for all you do! One comment on subscription services is that I have all my subscription services assigned to one credit card. Mobile phone, streaming, antivirus, etc. That way, I can always review and determine if something has increased in price or that my budget for those items needs attention. Subscription creep is real thing so one must manage it consistently.
One thing we do when it comes to subscriptions is add a calendar reminder (alert) a few days before the subscription will renew. This allows us to cancel ahead of time and not get charged. Many subscription services, when you cancel, will still provide you access until the end of the billing cycle.
What he failed to offer as a solution to subscriptions is to use virtual cards that can be paused, limits set to avoid outrageous increases, and merchant locked. I guess because he is the expert that he has a reason for not telling us about that easy to implement option. I’ve been doing it for at least three years.
All of our estate information (financial accts, insurance, acct numbers, pass words, - everything ) is kept in a three ring binder which includes the latest updates on all accounts. I just recently set down with our children and showed them the book and what is in the book. When we die they only need to go to that book and take it to the estate attorney.
I noticed my credit card after it expired was updated at several websites. I never updated it seems like it was automatically done. I’ve never experienced this until recently.
I encourage and even instruct my estate planning clients to be transparent with their fiduciaries and beneficiaries. Obviously there is some nuance here if the beneficiaries are minors (and hopefully through a trust, not directly to them). The upfront transparency can help to avoid conflicts later on by hashing things out now. A shroud of secrecy over your estate plan is never a good idea. Estate planning should also be done only by an attorney licensed in your state. Online software is cheap, but I often see problems with the provisions in there and in how the documents are executed. It's very important to have these things in order and to do it right upfront. Doing it on the cheap can end up being very expensive later on to deal with. Just make the investment and have an attorney do this.
If I recall correctly, if you share your Roku login, anyone that can login to it can add a streaming service to the credit card on file. I'm guessing that is what is happening here.
Excellent podcast. Especially on subscriptions and estate planning. BTW you can make any brand of TV a Roku with a simple stick plugin. Makes all tv sets the same.
Costco did not raise prices as much we thought they would, so it's still a great deal for many people. Despite the price hike, their markups are still the lowest compared to other stores. Be sure you do the math based on your family's spending at Costco to determine if it's still worth it for you. And remember if you have an executive membership, maybe it's just a matter of downgrading instead of canceling. 💚
@@ClarkHow frequently and what amount spent over a year makes it worth it to keep a warehouse membership? Single people (or even an empty nest/retired couple) especially could use a formula to determine. Help!
@@Clark I wanted something Costco had on sale, but live 2 hours away from the nearest Costco store. I leaned I could still buy it, but pay a small surcharge, worked out great for me.
Ok, BEFORE you try to change your SIM lock or turn it on, log into your account through your phone service and find the PIN and PUK code because you won’t be able to make it receive calls if you enter in the wrong PIN 3 times. The PIN is default assigned by your service, it is not any PIN you have to get into your phone or other areas in settings. I had to log in through Verizon and not going to lie, I kind of hate their app because it always wants to sell me something and it takes too many clicks to get to where I want to go. I had to restart my phone a few times so the PUK enter code screen would appear again. Frustrating, but get the PIN and PUK code through your account on your cell phone provider site before turning on SIM LOCK
I kept copies of my prior year tax returns on floppy disks. I just realized that I no longer have a functional device to read this medium any more. Fortunately I also keep paper copies.
I think tax returns *can* be useful for proving things like Roth conversions and retirement acct rollovers, if that somehow comes up with the IRS in the future. Also... maybe a little far-fetched,... but who knows if you might need your returns to show how you've been paying in on Social Security.
If you have been audited by the IRS, you want to keep the supporting documents longer especially if you have been audited multiple times. The IRS has multiple escapes from the seven year rule beyond failure to file such as criminal tax fraud.
Two Hulu subscriptions going to just one home? Oughta be crime of theft by the streaming company who knew or shld know one sub would cover whole house.
I only subscribe to streaming service IF they are discounted and never, ever to subscribe to one with ADS (discount or no discount); if I want watch ADs I do it free by free subscriptions or OTA channels.
Seriously, buy it. I work in title and so many files have one issue or another. You want to protect yourself in case the title company that reviewed missed something or you buy a house and the last bank didn’t release the mortgage and that lender sells the mortgage to another service and then that servicer thinks the mortgage hasn’t been paid and they start the foreclosure process. I’ve seen it happen one too many times.
I make the argument that it's better the leave all of the $ in the will to the responsible offspring with the idea that the same proven life choices that accumulated savings will continue with the $ from the will and that person could/would responsibly take care of the other siblings without blowing through ALL OF IT. We have experienced the scenario where all of the $ in the will got left to the un-responsible offspring and once all of $ is gone they come knocking on the door destitute and asking for more from the offspring that didn't get any. If you don't teach responsibility in life, dying does not fix it either. Telling the responsible offspring that they are cut out of the will does NOT eliminate ANY hard feelings!

FYI. Some companies can still run your card if it's expired.

I have a 55" TCL Roku TV and it has worked well for the past 3 years.
I chose 55" because it fits on the mantle in the living room.
Why do your adult kids have your CC number
The only time I had it was to care for my elderly mom for her groceries and prescriptions. (She paid in full and just used for the cash back.)

It might be worth checking to see if your county allows you to keep a will on file at the courthouse. I know my county does that.

Yes, I have a $25 Roku box connected to my LG. Works great! Cable cord cutter for 4 years.

"Sim" I just locked mine on Verizon

We made copies of our will and sent it to our kids.
Why do your kids have YOUR credit card numbers, Clark? Makes no sense.
Did Clark ever do a piece on Home Title Insurance and if it’s legit or a scam?

I wouldn’t leave a dime to an irresponsible person, and I wouldn’t burden the responsible kid with being a de facto conservator and trustee.
I'm just as bad with tax returns. I have mine back to 1984.
LOL I think mine go back to my first job in 1962, talk about overkill.
You can see the gal in the green acting like she is walking on eggshells. In fear of getting FIRED. By egomaniac clark.
