Who made these Party/Ministerial/Prime Ministerial broadcasts? Would the PSBs take it in turn from the BBC/Thames to avoid bias, or made and played down the line from Soho from somewhere like Molinaire? A rare example of indie-produced programming back then if so.
Looks like an ACR-25 cart misbehaving to me. It's definitely Quad based, but momentarily tries to cue backwards in vision. The colour bars are I believe what the fallback signal was from the cart machine.
Yorkshire be like "THA NOT SEEIN ME FUCKIN FACE!" Honestly, Yorkshire never having in vision continuity meant that I had no idea it was even a thing until the advent of youtube! We just had plummy voiced Redvers, bored as shit Graham Roberts and the reasonably enthusiastic Maggie Mash doing the continuity usually over a still slide of clock.
They did have in vision continuity at first then dropped it when colour transmission started. It made them the odd one out for years but in the end everyone went that way
Oh, I just saw cwilliams version of this, decided it was shit, and was going to make one with the Scottish clip in as well. But yours is so much better even without the third region.
Was the Party Political Broadcast simulcast with the BBC, who aired it at 9pm that night? Was that the reason for the fault? A poor connection with BBC Television Centre?
@@rayoliver1277 Since Thames did the vo on the slide I guess it was transmitted as a network programme by Thames and something went wrong with the playout there. The other regions could do nothing since they did not have their own local copy to transmit.
Thanks for taking the time to make this. These kind of side by side comparisons are always interesting.
Philip Elsmore and Redvers Kyle; two TV legends together for the first time!
"I'm afraid that we can't bring you the Party Politcal Broadcast by the Conservative Party". It's okay Mr Kyle, there's no need for an apology.
Grow up
@@thomashall4886He has grown up, that’s why he doesn’t like the Conservatives.
"You don't have to look at a blank screen". Unless you were living in Yorkshire!
3:25 - Black screen is here because there was fade to TVARK endcap

Philip Elsmore - ever the pro.
Except he announced the wrong programme at 6.35!
It's weird for me seeing an ITV channel advertising what's on channel 4. 😂

You forgot John Crosse.

How could it simulcast if the BBC put it out at 9pm and this was 9.55pm?

I actually remember watching this party political broadcast on BBC1, and it was shown without any problems.
Stereovision!!
Bless those "Gremlins in the works" they must've despised the Tories an' all! 🤭👍
