For safety issues, the safety car could do an extra lap because of the lack of pit stands. However, I think they were only doing driver changes, not tire changes or refuelling, so an extra saftey/caution lap would be unnecessary. The 2nd time I watched the video, it didn't seem as 'unsafe.' I've seen Nascar races pack all 43 cars into the pits at the same time doing tire changes, refuelling, and adjustments without anyone getting injured (most of the time) - not double parked though...
These are large cars and need alot of room to move them about in. Thruxton pits are so small its difficult to get alot of single seaters in the pits at the same time let along bigger GT cars. The pitlanes in the states are typically american and massive. And even if the organsiers could communicate to all the teams quickly who would opt to pit on a later lap and get forced back down the racing pack. I'm afraid it would never happen mate.
They should've pitted on alternate laps instead of double parking. I'd hate to be one of the pit-crew: I'd be terrified of being ran over with that much chaos going on!
