Ya know, just 36 years… 🤣
Wazzup soup!!!
For those of you that may be too young to know this, Master of Puppets did not get radio play in the 80's. No mainstream rock stations would touch it. It was too heavy. It became legendary among the fans and it spread from there. Lots of cassette tape copies went from teen hands to teen hands. Maybe 20 years later rock stations added it to their play list to play on occasion but till this day, rock radio is still scared of this song.
Agreed , miss the old days.
98 KUPD in Arizona is one of those rock stations that absolutely share Metallica with listeners on a regular basis.
It's also 4½ minutes too long for "mainstream rock stations". Doesn't that play into it as well?
WVVX in Chicago had a radio station that gave a 4 hour window where 2 lousy DJ’s played metal including Metallica and everything out at the time. The station wasn’t even broadcast in stereo. Fortunately Chicago had a nightly 4 hour window to hear the likes of Metallica and other metal bands way back in the day before Metallica sold-out.
We got a station here in southeast Virginia called fm99. They play Metallica a lot. Thankfully lol
An ad in the middle of this masterpiece should be a crime

Woah finally a music video for this song
Hell yeah!
yee, it is super good i love it
Only 36 years late
well technically it's a lyric video not a music video
I don't think its a music video though. More of a Lyric video
How is it possible that after 36 years this still sounds so incredibly mesmerizing and breathtaking... it is freakishly good and timeless, almost alienish; one for the ages.
It’s interesting how it doesn’t sound any less heavy than 10 or 20 years ago. Even if you listen to older Black Sabbath, you kinda get the feeling that “yeah that’s cool but that’s obviously oldies’ stuff.*” Here, the heaviness is timeless.
* No disrespect to BS, I love them.

Seeing it charting after 36 years is madness. This song is truly a work of *MASTER! MASTER!*

We live in 2022 where the music industry is almost ruined.
The music industry likes to push stupid pop stars.
Why feel proud for charting?
Who cares about charts?

No matter if it was low or high at the charts.
Charts are for the people in desks who care about sales, not musicians.

36 pls. I am not 40. But yeah it is awesome. I love the song.
I don't hear anything like this coming out now though. Sounds very 80s to me.

I feel like nobody’s talking about the message of this song. The song is most likely the perspective of a drug controlling someone who is addicted. Like talking about how more is what they need, how they twist their minds, how they are leading the addicted person to death, how they smash their dreams and make them stop playing out of passion, hell “take your breakfast on a mirror” could be a clear reference to drugs you snort. We see how the addicted person asks where there dreams went, how the drug lied to them, and how they get laughed at or humiliated which drug addicted people usually do. Only for the drug to once again take over and sing about how their killing them and how they rule their whole life
Yes this should really be our national anthem
Everybody knows this................
Yeah definitely after alcohol addiction among others this song made sense to me

I discovered this tape in 1990 when I was 12. Now I’m 44 and still love it. Timeless masterpiece 🔥🔥🔥
Almost my story. In 1988 I was 13 and so lucky that this was my first metal album in life.
Pretty much my same story. The year was 1989 for me and I was 12 then and it has carried forward with me to this day.
Found it in 93, i was 14. Bought the tape and got bummed out when i found out there was no video for this song, (unlike enter sandman...) I'm 43 and now this video got released. Mind blowing. Have a great day, brother.

Fuck the resurgence, there was never any resurgence, this song was and will always be great, perfect and immortal, the greatest Heavy Metal song ever recorded. Been listening and singing my heart out of it since I was 14. Fuck the "resurgence".
Yeah, probably the most known metal band in history is being recognized...
I'm glad to see how Metallica, and this song specifically, has become a trend the last month. It doesn't matter that this has been possible just for a Netflix series, it's that kind of song that changed the game when it was released and still is a superb song almost 40 years later! Long live to Metal. Long live Metallica.
FR! I never listened to metallica before stranger things but i’m glad it’s become more popular because i was able to find this band and this song especially. i don’t think it’s fair how people are making fun of people who found metallica through stranger things. Like poeple should be more glad their favorite bands are becoming more popular!
@@t0bythebat I've never even watched stranger things but I've loved Metallica since I first really discovered them back in 1994 when I was 8. I'm glad more people are realizing how insanely good their old stuff is though, whether it came from a Netflix series or not.

@Phil McCrackin stranger things, a film

This might just be my favorite heavy metal song ever. This crap is amazing. Especially the editing. The editing is crazy.
It's not a heavy metal, it's trash metal, bro
I was 12 when this album came out, but I got my first copy when I was 15. It wasn't payed on the radio. Back then, heavy metal was considered "of the Devil" and pretty much banned from listeners under 18, at least in my area. I had to put it on an unlabeled tape to play it in my Walkman at school so it wouldn't be confiscated. The fact that it was "forbidden fruit" made it even more badass.
Yeah, it's a lyric video, but took 36 years long to have an official video.
I love it!!!!

I have to say I was skeptical of the remasters but damn. They really nailed it. Having the bass louder (and also tighter and EQed better) makes a world of difference.
This is from the 80s and it will forever the best song all of heavy metal has ever seen.
Like it or not, Metallica has been "mainstream" since the black album. They haven't always been super "popular" but if I'm not mistaken, every single album since the Black has debuted at #1. The have also consistently sold out the biggest arenas world wide.
What I'm happy about is a whole new generation getting introduced to the Cliff era Metallica.
I WISH I could experience them for the first time, like I did back in 84 or 85.
Yeah Cliff era of Metallica was the best part before he died. I'm glad that Metallica are getting the recognition they deserve and the new generation listening to Metallica is awesome! These kids need to know what REAL music is instead of listening to EDM all the time. Hell, maybe Metallica are the key for rock and metal making a huge comeback like it's been a long time waiting for.
@@ManletStrength Rock and Metal are never making a “huge comeback”. And there’s nothing wrong with that. It’s not “dead” or “dying either”.
It’s just falling in popularity, same way blues did and jazz and all kinds of music.
It will never be the dominant force in music again. Enjoy it because you enjoy it, not because of its international popularity, fame or recognition.
There is no Metallica without Cliff. The band died with him. They did good stuff after him, but it wasn’t Metallica.
“Every single album since the Black”
You sure ‘bout that? What about Lulu? 🤪
Saw them in Vegas for the first time in February
I love the change of rhythm in the middle. It's so good and when returns to normal, is so more powerful.
That beautiful section represents the ecstasy of taking drugs. How beautiful and floaty it feels. And then as the tempo increases and you hear the rage and pain building as the urge from addiction comes back.
It really is incredible.
@@mlgamings6110 Exactly 💯
@MLgamings I always thought of the soft part as the ecstasy of victory and returning home, as it speeds up the realization that they’ll have to do it all again is slowly returning to them, and it builds anguish and pain.
Because they know they’ll be away from their families and be in danger again
Since the cross graves represent dead soldiers obviously
