Sterlo as a player /person. Back in the days of 'rugby league week's when they rated all players out of all games played on a weekly basis - Sterlo was/is the only player to score a perfect 10 out of 10 on several occasions. Langer - John's etc. may have got it on 1/2 occasions but I think Sterlo may have got at least a handful. That should tell you something

As a Bulldogs supporter, someone who's been watching since 1979, I can second that.
Peter Sterling was as good a player as any of the other Immortals.
      As good as Andrew Johns.
      As good as Wally Lewis.
I'd say Johns, Sterling, Wally Lewis, Laurie Daley and Greg Inglis are the best players I've seen.
      Jarryd Hayne not far behind.
Add in his commentary, Sterling is the next Immortal for sure.

Kenny 3 GFs two tries in each of them and flogged an immortal when he played against him, they had to put The King at lock because Kenny schooled him, in fact they should have one God of League that the immortals bow down to, His name is Brett Kenny

If you are going to talk about 'errors' in a players game, Andrew Johns' throwing an intercept in the 2000 Preliminary Final against the Roosters (when Newcastle blew a 16-2 HT lead) is as much as an error as Billy Slater in the 2008 World Cup Final. Great players have plenty of bad moments because they are willing to take the risk and have the glory or infamy.

      You're cracking jokes.
What do we keep hearing about NRL winners - their game is based on a strong defence.
      Penrith, Roosters, whoever.
How then can the best player ever, the 'GOAT', be someone that can't tackle?
That is an embarrassment to Peter Sterling and Laurie Daley and the great players that could both attack and defend.
Don't insult anyone's intelligence by suggesting Thurston belongs in the same sentence as Andrew Johns.
If the other team has the ball, Thurston's hiding on the wing, waving them through.
Joey, and Laurie Daley, and Wally Lewis were in there belting 2nd rowers.
Not in the same class, sorry.
      Cameron Smith, yes, definitely.
      Greg Inglis, yep definitely.
Thurston not in the conversation if defence is worth anything in Rugby League.

If Joey is an immortal then Kenny, Fittler & Daley are Gods above the immortals. Making Johns the 8th ruined the immortals concept. The media started taking about Joey as an immortal whenever he was out injured & not actually playing, simply cos the Knights couldn't win without him.

    • @1362pc

Every single one of those players you listed have said John's is the best player they've ever seen. Even Lockyer. I'm a Parra fan, and IMO, Sterling isn't an Immortal. He couldn't defend. Taylor had to do his tackling. Kenny should be. Lewis and Meninga had to move out of their preferred positions whenever Kenny played for the Kangaroos. 2 trys in 3 consecutive GFs. Winning record in Origin over Lewis

@@joshski85 I think Johns was a brilliant player but I rate Kenny, Fittler, Daley & Lockyer way higher. Joey's highs were high but his lows were way too low & too many for the kind of praise he gets today.

@blindbunker777 Lockyer is my all-time favourite player, but he wasn't better than Johns. Either was Fittler. They both just played in much better club sides. Had Johns played in those Brisbane sides of the 90s/00s, he'd have at least 2 more rings. As it were, they smashed my Parra team in 01, who were among one of the most dominant sides in the history of the game that year. Only 2 teams in NSW history to win an Origin decider in QLD, and he orchestrated one of them. His performances in Origin are legendary. He deserves his Immortal status. Off-field did not count at the time of his induction.

    • @blindbunker777

@@joshski85 Only one match Johns played at Origin level is legendary - 2005 game 2. Go back & watch every one of Johns's Origin games from 1995 -1998. It's not immortal quality stuff. It's ordinary stuff. His performances for NSW & the Kangaroos don't hold a candle to JT for example. Two teams underachieved in the 90's - Knights & Sharks - both were stacked with quality players & both did very little. The Knights of the 90's were a much better club team than Fittler had at the Roosters. People who love Johns must be easily impressed by banana kicks ffs. He reckons he knocked back Union in 05. He was never gonna replace Larkham at 10 for the Wallabies ffs. He wasn't even the best player in his own family

      Nope.
Smith is the only one that could defend like Johns.
Rugby League isn't just about attack the last time I looked.
      Lockyer was a fair defender.
Laurie Daley and Peter Sterling were excellent defenders, tough, in there tackling forwards when the team needed it.
Laurie Daley had 2 of the 3 biggest hits in State of Origin years ago, one on Gillmeister, one on Andrew Gee.
Have a look at Laurie Daley's hit on Andrew Gee and tell us again Lockyer and Thurston are better players.
      You are kidding.
Peter Sterling is the next Immortal.
      Just for his playing.
Then put his commentary on top of it, he showed the public how League is played with his game analysis, drawing on the screen etc.
Peter Sterling, no question the next Immortal.
