  • The HiFi Brothers are here to recommend some old Sonos products that you should consider buying for your setup or if you are trying to start new.
    Legacy Products: (stay away)
    - Sonos Play:5 (Gen 1)
    - Zone Players
    - Connect*
    - Connect:Amp*
*devices manufactured between 2011 and 2015 (Gen 2 are okay)
We didn’t want to recommend these products because they are hard to distinguish from each other. Also, we’ve heard that Sonos may remove support of these products sooner than later. Enter at your own risk.

We are currently renovating our studio, so that explains why our background looks much different. Next video upload will include the new look and feel for HiFi Brothers. We hope you like it!

Great video Brothers! I have a mix of older, brand new, and symfonisk products. Started with a playbass from eBay in 2019 for $260, now I have 2 play1s, 3 play 5s (gen 2), and 1 play 3 all used and all going strong.

6 Sonos 1s 3s and 5 - all 5 of them are 8 years old and running strong. I did have a warranty at year 3 on the 5 but mostly trouble free.
Not sure what feature I am actually missing. Never going to brick them - still very happy with them.
but… I would not be surprised if their eventually maliciously hacked since not being updated.

Would you recommend a gen 1 Sonos speaker (play 3 or 5) if I don't plan to link it to any other sonos speakers? I'm just looking for the best possible single speaker sound for the lowest price.

Nice thing about the Play5 is that it has a line-in port, so it’s more versatile as a single speaker. If you’re getting it at a good price, I’d say go for it!

Are the Play 3 good as surround speakers for a Beam gen 2? I can get then cheaper than Play 1

Yeah, they should work great! Remember the Play3s have an extra driver so should output a little more sound than the Play1s.

So lets say theoretically you are looking for a sub? Would you get gen 1, 2 or 3. I know they are all similar…

You can get either and they’ll work great! However, if you plan to use 2 subs in your setup then you’ll need to make sure that at least one of them is gen 3. Hope that helps!

I own a gen 1 and a gen 3. I understand they are very similar save for processing power. They certainly look to be a match except for a few minor cosmetic differences.

I just bought my first Sonos speaker, a Play 5 gen 1 😢, but I got iron a Thrift store for 6 bucks. Thought I did good, but sounds like maybe I didn't.
