If I remember hearing correctly, the spooky dream fight was originally the second phase of The Devil, but the phase was scrapped during development. I imagine the stop-motion rock devil in the background would have transitioned into the the giant Devil head in the final phase.
Yeah, it was confirmed that the devil skeleton was going to be in the unused phase 2, and would've transformed into the alive giant devil we know. There is a finished but unused animation of him in his normal giant form opening his eyes, grinning, and then lowering his hands in which the platforms would probably appear.
Damn that’s actually a really smooth transition. It goes from his skeleton jumping out of his skin, becoming massive as you jump through the hole after him then becoming flesh and blood after absorbing the devil and angel into itself. Shame it didn’t work out
The salt dude is genuinely a better disney villain than any other disney villain from the past 10 years.
i hope he shows up in the netflix series i feel he could be the potential to be a villain that could rival the devil and give us a "disney like villain"

In addition to the Gil reference in the final boss, the first phase of the Howling Aces game over screen is literally just the Rolento pose and in second phase of Mortimer Freeze, his sword attack from the ground is literally just a Hsien-Ko move. Love how the devs of this game are just unashamed of how much they love old capcom games considering how formative to the modern run and gun genre the Megaman X games are.
Just saying that the ground pound move you're talking about could also very well be a reference to Frost Man from Mega Man 8, since both are big hulking snowmen who attack the ground in that exact same way for their Ice Wave attack. Given that there's already a mega man reference straight up in the DLC, would be surprised if it was this

During the ice boss he was just letting out his pure raw voice acting talent. That brainless ice golem voice was perfect, and that donkey kong death sound around 10:30 was insanely accurate

just realized, in the "end" credits when saltbaker has finished his reform, it shows him, cuphead, mugman *and* chalice alive all at once, which means he actually made the wondertart and gave it to chalice like he was supposed to

This DLC just put a huge smile on my face. It’s so perfect. Amazing - AMAZING - soundtrack, perfect animations, just the right amount of content, and it feels like a gift for people who already love cuphead. It takes the japes from the base game and makes them so much deeper, it’s just wonderful
Some of the animation reminded me a lot of James Baxter's work, especially the last boss fight. So pleasant to watch :)
It wouldn't surprise me if MDHR consulted stuff with him. Dude's an animation eminence and very approachable. If he didn't work in either the game or the DLC, I'm 100% sure he'll do something in the next game (if it's ever happening.)

it wasn't the exact same but i had a really unhealthy amount of "empathy" for food/random ass objects, like i'd worry they were lonely or that i was abandoning them if i threw them away
I am right there with you regarding the inanimate object thing. I vividly remember being like 5-6 at an IHOP and getting a stack of those pancakes that have a smile on them, and I was unable to eat them because it looked too happy. Even after my dad smudged up the face it still took a lot of tears and disassociating to be able to eat it. And yes, I watched Toy Story 1 & 2 countless times by that point which did not help in the slightest.

relating to the food discussion, object personification is a pretty common thing with adhd/other neurodiv stuff, i.e. tendencies to treat inanimate objects kinda like people in some ways, so that might be where it comes from

And then I thought about it some more and realized it did make sense for them to go with him. These cups killed the DEVIL. They can handle a creepy ferryman. the first time i saw any footage of the dlc i was high as shit and my friend showed me a compilation of the boss battles. the only moment where i wasn't getting my universe rocked by how amazing everything looked was when i saw the spider boss, and went "oh shit! it's the unused spider boss! grayfruit is gonna lose his mind!"

the cuphead dlc is genuinely my game of the year and probably my game of the decade so far. everything about this was literally what i wanted and even more, knowing grayfruit was going to nerd out as much i did is always reassuring, banger vid as always mr fruit
You said it felt short, but to be fair, it's 'Inkwell Isle 4' and still around the same length as each of the other isles. This was really hype DLC and I'm so glad they came back to add to the game.

i can tell you absolutely ADORE this game just from the way you react to everything in it. great vid!
Fun fact: the more bosses you beat with the cursed relic, the more the eye opens, once the eye fully opens, it gives you a cool effect, allows you to switch from any weapon and gives you every other charm(except for the cookie charm (obviously))
The art and creative direction is so fucking good on these bosses, I love it.

to be fair the knight boss seems like a reworked version of the airship jellyfish/octopus boss since its a boss that goes back and forth and you have to parry its head to hurt it, could just be a coincidence tho
