This is wonderful stuff for a guy only twenty years old. Only on RUclips could I discover a major talent about whom I knew nothing until today. Proving once again that I know almost nothing after 79 years but I'm OK with that. I await the discoveries of a new day.
My uncle, Alan Green, was a general practioner in Horbury all his life, and a fine pianist. I remember him speaking of Baines, and voila, many years later, here I am on YT, listening to Baines's beautiful preludes, which I'm sure Alan must have played and loved.
Thank you for introducing William Baines of UK who was an unique creative composer pianist different from Continent Europe. Claude Debussy nor Maurice Ravel did not do Composer Pianist. But he practiced. We can taste the original music comparing with French Impressionism in the same period that the youngest composer created. That proves the highest standard of music culture of UK in that time. If he had lived longer, the quality of music in 20th century might had been better.
If only he'd lived longer. He would have been one of the most well known composers along with Chopin, Scriabin etc. Beautiful playing but would love CD or MP3 of more of his works. He needs to be revived and promoted.
Merci Medtnaculus !
William Baines English pianist and composer who wrote more than 150 works for solo piano and a number of larger orchestral works before his death from tuberculosis at the age of 23 at 1922. (according to Wikipedia article).
Very good music with some weaknesses, espacially the missing stylistic heterogeneity and the shortness of each piece, which doesn't allow development, which even small preludes should have

This man has a really deep effect on me. Every time I listen to this, the more it gives me ideas for my own works. What a brilliant man Baines was.
Now this has the depth i missed in York Bowen ! Fantastic !
Another master leaving earth too sudden, but he has given a beautiful signature to us, still living.
That n.3 gets me every time
No. 5 is stunning
Thanks so much for the intro to Baines - I hadn't known about him. Would've loved another 50 years of ever more mature music.

Baines ist von allem möglichen beeinflußt (#7 von Brahms). Das liegt aber an seinem jugendlichen Alter
9:26 Scriabin's mystic chord?

Beautiful!
A young and talented composer. Too bad that the war worsen his health and he never fully recovered.
I like these
Very good music with some weaknesses, espacially the missing stylistic heterogeneity and the shortness of each piece, which doesn't allow development, which even small preludes should have
Baines’ other pieces, which are longer, have the development you’re searching for. Tides is a good example.
wonderful but
the volume is too low
The volume is fully normal. Check your sound system or go to the doctor😉
