The first song in the medley is the ode to the village of Lefaga. I’m sure Lefaga people around the world are very proud that a mostly palagi choir has done justice to their anthem
Faamalo, faafetai NZ Youth Choir. Beautiful singing. Ua Lologo was composed by my talented uncle Tuaopepe Leoli Tinei Tuaopepe from Gagaifolevao, Lefaga, Samoa.
Why does this mainly Caucasian choir perform songs from cultures to which they do not belong. Time perhaps for some Morris dancing or perhaps some Irish or Celtic Gaelic.
A strong value of Pacific culture especially is the the sharing of culture with respect. You can see from the other comments on this video that because the choir has learnt this piece with respect and appreciation, their performance is perfectly acceptable and celebrated :)
The NZ Youth Choir have been doing this for decades now. It's nothing new. This is only a snippet of their whole performance which included Maori waiata and European compositions.
