  • Old 8mm cine film of Shrewsbury, Shropshire, England from the 1960's, clips from three different films but all from the same batch of films the first clip is a bit dark in places but shows a lot of the town and how bad the floods got the second clip is not very long and shows the height of the water at the bridge and Quarry Park and the third clip is showing ice flowing along the River Severn along by Mardol Quay.

I remember early 60’s walking on raised board past the abbey church to the English bridge and on the other side more boards to Wyle Cop up into town. This has been going on for generations water makes in the abbey church prove it, there used to be a dredger close to the English bridge on Coleham side I do remember it in used, but long gone, trees in the silt on the football ground side.
    Happy days long gone.

Yes, I remember Frankwell and the board walk to get through to Copthorne. Also, some of the business names now long gone. Thanks for the memories.

Conclusive proof for the doubters out there of Climate Norming in action. Has anyone ever considered that perhaps some parts of the town shouldn't have been built where they are?

Many of our towns flood badly even today. Is Shrewsbury still affected or does it have flood defences. I well remember scenes like this in other parts of the country back then. Old cine films contain peoples memories and are so atmospheric.

It has flood defences. Built by Frank Galliers around 20 years ago. They were successful for a while but the last few years has seen ferocious floods. And the reticle with flood defences is, if you stop it flooding in one's place, you're just pushing the problem further downstream and causing floods somewhere else.
