The red Peroni is like nectar, a beautiful beer and well worth buying wherever you can find it. You're absolutely right about it being a little treasure. Thanks for the tip on where to find it!
They do crates of it in Costco and it's usually the cheapest beer they sell! I always buy the stuff, it's brilliant and cheaper than the UK breweries rubbish fake Italian beer somehow!?
I remember it being the main beer available when I went to Rome in 2008. It's so much better than the blue Peroni I have no idea why it's not sold more widely in the UK.
Lidl have Budvar dark from time to time. I always stock up when I see it. Sadly I've never seen Efes dark in the UK - I could drink that all day, and much nice than the pale.
I found this informative Simon, as well as very entertaining ! Will head out this weekend to track some of these down. Once again thanks for the masterclass !
Really like the Love Lane, being Welsh and having a connection to Liverpool, it always caught my eye, the IPA is also nice. Says Konings is brewed by Ballsen for the Chinese market
I've been drinking love Lane all summer excited to see you review it but also now nervous as I may not be able to get it as easily. We did a blind taste test at one barbecue and this beer outperformed others at £3 a can.
Bloody hell, I was in Copenhagen last week and had that Tuborg Fici, very nice. I'm off to Home Bargains tomorrow to see if I can get some. I didn't realise it was brewed in Turkey!
Enjoying Fici this Saturday evening on your recommendation. What a revelation! Thank you for opening my eyes to some alternatives that I'd never normally look at. Cheers! P.S. subscribed. 👍🏻
Whilst in Tenerife last Feb, I visited bar run by an elderly German couple. I went in as there was Warsteiner signage outside, but I'm pretty sure that the lager they sold was actually Konig. Decent stuff on draught...
And yet it’s brewed in Poland too specifically for UK (plus other territories too maybe). We get the shitty end of the stick! I’ve discovered recently that Estrella are doing the same and the version we get, although Spanish, is not the same Estrella you can buy in Spain.
I can't believe I watched someone drink beer for an hour and not get bored. I need a beer! Cheers! 🍻 Great advertisement for Home Bargins. I'm sure they will employ you for a beer tester. I was gobsmacked by the quality of Love Lanes IPA. I'm not a big lager drinker but I agree, Love Lanes baltic lager us really good, especially for the price. I will have to try the 100% malt lager now that you have taste tested it. Thank you and 🍻 ears!
Thanks for this Simon. Made a trip to my local H&B in Byker on the strength of the vid and also found Pilsner Urquell at £1.89 for a 500ml bottle. A great start to the weekend!
Your reviews have been absolutely spot on. I've learned a great deal from you about what to look for in beer and I've been enjoying beer so much more as a result. Best beet channel on RUclips.
Good to know where the good value quality beers can be found. I tried Budvar for the first time after finding it in HB for £1.29. Time for a return visit!
Flourescent lights have long been replaced by LED. I imagine it can still cause the light strike, though. Had a bottle of Mythos a couple of months ago and it was perfectly fine. No skunkiness whatsoever. Same with the Lucky Buddah (no glucose syrup in this, but it does have a honey/citrus lean, which I personally enjoy). Bought several times, no skunk. Maybe, it's your particular store lights? Efes & Fici are great. Would personally give the Efes the nose over the Fici.
Argh there's no Home Bargains anywhere near me. I went to the DAB brewery museum a couple of months back - curious to see how it travels, and some of the others here look good too!
I only ever tried the DAB Diet beer and it was one of the best I ever had. Somewhat light but very refreshing and well made. It's a proper refreshing and easy to drink Dortmund beer made for miners after a long tough day apparently.
They sell dark and ordinary Budvar in my local one too. I do like that about Home Bargains, you still get a nice surprise every now and then with their beer
Just came back from Istanbul and have to say the Bomonti filtreszi beer was marvellous. Serendipitously, Lidl had Fici in as part of middle east week. Bought a couple and was blown away. Have invested in some more before they all get sold. Thankfully slow seller as bit unknown I guess.
No way! I've always been put off green bottle beer and not really joined the dots. Thanks so much for explaining this decade long mystery to me. That Mythos is glorious from draft. It is a light simple lager, but quite honest to the German recipe. But that damn bottle. I've even had Czech Budvar slightly spoiled. Now I know why.
Im well on the HB train for my beers the last 3-4months after seeing your previous recommendation of Quilmes 👍. Proper imported beers at decent prices, surprised you didnt have Urquell or Budvar in that group. They have become my go to buys the last few months along with Budvar dark lager.
Having been to various music festivals in the past, I can remember the Tuborg lager served up for all the wrong reasons. It was terrible watery flat lager on keg served in a plastic glass. However, Tuborg Fici looks like a different beast altogether, so I shall pick up some when I am next in Home Bargains. Had I not seen your review, I would have avoided it like the plague.
The Fici has been a mainstay in my HB basket for a couple of years now - it's bang tidy. The Baltic lager is drinkable enough but I'm really surprised that you didn't mention that it's not what it used to be. When they first bought it out it really was quite unusual with a honey helles finish. That DAB (probably a formerly good drop) definitely wouldn't have made it off the shelf once I noticed the dreaded _hop extract._ Anything with that or _glucose syrup_ stays well out of my fridge
I have just been to lidl and brought a case of budvar again i brought it at the beginning of December they still had a few cases left plus i brought two bottles of budvar dark
Glad you liked the Baltic, been drinking it for several months and it's a great easy going pint. The LL neipa and amber are pretty good too (check them out) but have had the hop bill reduced recently and noticeably. Still great for the price though. Off to Home Bargains tomorrow after work for some Fici and DAB, cheers!
Really enjoyable video. Really like these head to head videos you do. Learnt alot from this RUclips channel. I avoid alot of the fake world beers that are brewed in UK. 👍 I always check the lable before buying.
Top review thanks Simon. Will grab some tomorrow. The love lane is my go-to lager atm. Can you do a review of the Maccies chilli double cheeseburger please.. I’d like to see if they’re worth trying! Cheers!🍻
Terrific - thanks! We have a Home Bargains here in Exmouth so may just give them a visit tomorrow. Are you on any commission..?! 😀 I love the fact that you visibly go downhill during the session…!
Was in Home Bargains a couple of days ago ,got 6 bottles of Quilmes really liked it very quashable .Got a couple of the Koningsgold will get round to tonight Love Lane Baltic lager is one I buy semi regularly always hits the mark.Good for when you fancy a few midweek beers without spending much.
I remember going to italy for the first time and the red peroni was the best lager there. I was shocked that there wasn't nastro azzuro everywhere because that's just what I expected to be the Italian lager. Stayed in a tiny village outside policastro bussentino. In the local bar they had tennents special of all things to see in the fridge. The locals loved it 🤷🏻
Went to the greek island of Thasos in the summer and had a lovely lager called Beptina on draft, if you come across it give it a try it's a decent golden lager.
You got it right - Home Bargains has a great range at great prices. The only really issue with it is the conditioning - quality control isn't the best, not sure how they're keeping them in the warehouses but especially with the bottles you can get some real individual duds if they've been left somewhere warm or exposed to sunlight around the back. Couple of personal recommendations from the beers you looked at here: DAB I remember fondly from my time living in Canada - it's a pretty easily-found beer at the LCBO there, and one of the only real German pilsners available for a good price (as opposed to American crap masquerading as the real thing!) - you know exactly what you're getting with German pilsner, but it's a pretty consistent one! Never seen it in bottles before though, knowing Home Bargains I'd be careful buying it in the summer if you don't fancy your beer to smell and taste like a spliff. Also really glad Peroni Red is available in the UK now - as you said, that's the Peroni they actually drink and sell in Italy, not the bland white label / green bottle stuff you get here. Tastes a whole world better than "our version!" You can taste the malt a lot more, it's a proper rounded lager. Nice review!
The problem is my home bargains dose not have the peroni red because they buy in cheap all the beers suppliers have imported and are stuck in warehouses and can't shift they buy them cheap and distribute them around there stores but sometimes there is not enough for every store
Excellent video mate Red peroni is an all year round go to for me from home bargains, love the stuff, tend to go for modelo in the summer which i think is a top warm weather tipple, now i got myself a tuborg fici today and my god is it good, really really nice dare i say its nicer than the peroni red 🍺
I love Home Bargains for there different products they sell, got some Seabrook's Tomato Ketchup crisps the other week and the were fantastic as Walkers stopped doing this flavor a few years ago. I wish though they did Mythos in cans as the bottles are always skunked and it's not drinkable. Also I wasn't aware but Tyskie isn't brewed in Poland anymore, think it's Belgium brewed these days.
Home bargains were doing bottles of Nigerian Guinness for a while. They do have some random international beers in there from time to time, but things do come and go, so you cant always guarantee what will be there.
Try to get hold of Egyptian Stella.... It's not known whether it had connections to Stella Artois a hundred years ago but it is quite a distinct and unique lager.
Both Fici Tuborg and Efes Draft are the Turkish Draught version of the regular bottled beers. I much prefer the normal version of the beers. As a point of interest in Turkey the news on the ground is that if you want bottled beer drink Efes, If you want draught, i.e. keg beer, drink Tuborg. Much prefer drinking draught beer.
My fave beer at the moment is estralla dam. Its fantastic. Light refreshing beer and sensionable. Maybe not quite urquel or staropramen standards, but genuinely not far offand has that german/czech pilsner taste.
Tried a Tuborg extra malt from Lidl recently. Nice. Comes in a funky gold can with foil over the ring pull. 👌😆 Had Peroni red on draft in Rome...in an Irish bar as you should😂 wonderful 👍 I've tried Mythos and thought it was a very cheap and nothing beer, its high price is baffling.
I always drink peroni red when im in italy, which is several times a year but cant find it here in dublin. Ill be heading up north to stock up and bringing it back down by the case load
In USA Latin Americans would love that Mythos,,when I find marked down beer I a bootleg chill it as soon as possible and try it ,if it's good I go by a lot of it
The Efes Draft and Malt are lovely The Lucky Buddha I had was DREADFUL. Smelt like a cannabis farm on opening. Had to chuck it down the sink. Seriously skunked.
The efes and Tuborg are great. My other half is Turkish and says the ç is pronounced “ch” so Fiçi is pronounced something like “Fitcher” or “fi-cha” or “fitchi” depending on region etc
The best snack to have with beers is Mr Porkys Crisp Strips!!! If you don’t like Pork Scratchings then the Porky Strips are for you!!! Some of them are airy like wotsits!! I love Pork Scratchings!! But the Crisp Strips with an amazing can of Holstens Lager is the best!!!
I love Home and Bargain a working class shop selling real imported beers which posh shops would chare much more for. BTW Tsing Tao is pronounced Ching-dow. they sell massive jars of olives for 1.20
Worth remembering the Tyskie in the cans isn't genuine Polish lager though. It's brewed in the Netherlands, which you could see on the side of the can as you were pouring it lol.
Hello my friend love the videos!!! Fiçi means barrel in Turkish and the bottle is shapped like a barrel not a glass! I agree it's my favourite quoff 😂😂😂
“Someone that works in a tyre garage… they’re always going to have the best tyres on their car, aren’t they?”- another classic quote
perfect!
This is the sort of insightful analysis I subscribed for.
More outstanding consumer advice, this channel is multi faceted!
😂 it's actually the complete opposite. They'll have the cheapest!
Superb beer ❤
majestic do it cases of 24, often for £24
I remember it being the main beer available when I went to Rome in 2008. It's so much better than the blue Peroni I have no idea why it's not sold more widely in the UK.
Agreed. All I drank last time I was in Campania
EFES Draft in cans from B&M for £1.20 (used to a be a quid) is my go-to favourite.
Nice to see a local brewery Love Lane getting a decent review. It nearly closed its doors a year ago till tj morris bought it 👍
I'll try a couple later 🍺🍺
I know you mentioned them having Budvar, but Home Bargains always has Budvar Dark, not sure it's available anywhere else. So good.
How did you lose 20 years!
Lidl have Budvar dark from time to time. I always stock up when I see it. Sadly I've never seen Efes dark in the UK - I could drink that all day, and much nice than the pale.
Great beer that Budvar Dark 👌
I may pop up Home Bargains for some of these.I had the Budvar Dark from Lidl a while ago and liked it.
I was in Home Bargains the other day was well pleased to stumble on the Export version of Guinness for £1,59 - can't go wrong there!
The DAB is my current go to beer, outstanding. Home Bargains also sells it in 4-pack cans.
I've been drinking love Lane all summer excited to see you review it but also now nervous as I may not be able to get it as easily. We did a blind taste test at one barbecue and this beer outperformed others at £3 a can.

Enjoying Fici this Saturday evening on your recommendation.
What a revelation!
Thank you for opening my eyes to some alternatives that I'd never normally look at.
Cheers!
P.S. subscribed. 👍🏻
DAB beer was the local German beer I remember from my time stationed as part of British Army of the Rhine, in osnabuck. Fond memories, good beer.
Whilst in Tenerife last Feb, I visited bar run by an elderly German couple. I went in as there was Warsteiner signage outside, but I'm pretty sure that the lager they sold was actually Konig. Decent stuff on draught...
Polish Tyskie is an amazing lager still available in Polish shops, The UK version is nasty!
And yet it’s brewed in Poland too specifically for UK (plus other territories too maybe). We get the shitty end of the stick! I’ve discovered recently that Estrella are doing the same and the version we get, although Spanish, is not the same Estrella you can buy in Spain.
Tyskie is pure piss, with or without an extra ABV percentage point.
@@hughacurl I agree. It used to be nice at 6.5 from Poland but it's just watered down nonsense now. Awful stuff.
Thx Simon - just came from HB - will be back there looking for your faves nxt week - my fridge is full of Champinois from Asda atm!!
I can't believe I watched someone drink beer for an hour and not get bored. I need a beer! Cheers! 🍻
Great advertisement for Home Bargins. I'm sure they will employ you for a beer tester.

Just filled my fridge up with Love Lane Lager and Love Lane Pale Ale, and some Fici! Excellent!!
Try there NEIPA also available in HB
Tuborg is now a brand within the Carlsberg Group (yes, it's Danish). Fici is brewed by Türk Tuborg, which is a subsidiary of Carlsberg.
I went to home bargains today and got some love lane trying it tonight for the first time well enjoyed the video thank you for sharing
Thanks for this Simon. Made a trip to my local H&B in Byker on the strength of the vid and also found Pilsner Urquell at £1.89 for a 500ml bottle. A great start to the weekend!
Totally in agreement
Both the DAB and Fici are superb. Will have to try the Peroni red a go.
My Lidl has got loads of the Fici in at the moment as well as the Tuborg Gold which is also an amazing beer, both for £1.49.
Forgot DAB existed. Used to drink it from bargain booze many years ago after I got fed up of Stella.
Just started working next to a Home Bargains. The main Love Lane range is well decent. Picking up some Fici & red Peroni next week, fo sho.
They sell dark and ordinary Budvar in my local one too. I do like that about Home Bargains, you still get a nice surprise every now and then with their beer

Efes also do a pilsner in a blue bottle, very nice .
Be on mythos a week tomorrow, booked into a greek restaurant
Been drinking fici now for about 12 months, get mine from heron foods and I even got a lot of my friends on the fici train 🚂
i didnt realise heron sell beer...they dont sell it in my local in blackpool?
bought 2 bottles of fici from Lidl last week, didn't last very long, absolutlely lovely, reminded me of Rusk Biscuits 😋
Im well on the HB train for my beers the last 3-4months after seeing your previous recommendation of Quilmes 👍. Proper imported beers at decent prices, surprised you didnt have Urquell or Budvar in that group. They have become my go to buys the last few months along with Budvar dark lager.
Efes and Mythos are both great, but I do love the Tuborg Fıçı. Btw... Fıçı means Draught. 👍🏼

Regularly raid home bargains for the love lane, DAB and budvar, love lane neipa is really good too for £1.49
I got back from HB 5 minutes ago: DAB, Krombacher and Peroni (Italian)!
I have just been to lidl and brought a case of budvar again i brought it at the beginning of December they still had a few cases left plus i brought two bottles of budvar dark
I'm always picking up the baltic lager but now along with the fici tried it last night and wow
Loving the US Marine haircut Simon😅 Another great video 👏👍
Glad you liked the Baltic, been drinking it for several months and it's a great easy going pint. The LL neipa and amber are pretty good too (check them out) but have had the hop bill reduced recently and noticeably. Still great for the price though.
Off to Home Bargains tomorrow after work for some Fici and DAB, cheers!
Last time in italy had red peroni in big bottles didnt see other much , maybe even on draft red 1 feller was nicer for sure ❤😊
Really enjoyable video. Really like these head to head videos you do.

Love Lane Baltic lager is one I buy semi regularly always hits the mark.Good for when you fancy a few midweek beers without spending much.
Had all these apart from red p and love Lane. Will see if the 2 I've not had are in HB tomorrow 👍

Thank you, what an eye opener, off down to Homes Bargains shortly to check out the beers 👍👍👍
I think you should do a part two where you continue to finish them to see if your palet changes.
Bought some Fici in my local Lidle last week-very good
Just gone out and bought the top 3 beers you recommended - love this kind of videos!
Went to the greek island of Thasos in the summer and had a lovely lager called Beptina on draft, if you come across it give it a try it's a decent golden lager.
I love having a Mythos in Greece! At home its just not the same as when you're eating calamari in the sun. (Try saying "Mythos" fast three times)
Nice review!
Tried the Konigsgold last week, not bad at all. DAB very nice as well, prefer Efes Pilsner to the Draft. Will try the Love Lane next time.
Efes Pilsner is a lovely beer but you don't see it on sale as often as Efes Draft which I also like.
Picked up some Fici in Lidl at the moment for £1.69, really nice 🥴
The problem is my home bargains dose not have the peroni red because they buy in cheap all the beers suppliers have imported and are stuck in warehouses and can't shift they buy them cheap and distribute them around there stores but sometimes there is not enough for every store
Herons at the bottom of my street sells chilled bottles of Fici. It's always in my fridge.
Excellent video mate
Red peroni is an all year round go to for me from home bargains, love the stuff, tend to go for modelo in the summer which i think is a top warm weather tipple, now i got myself a tuborg fici today and my god is it good, really really nice dare i say its nicer than the peroni red 🍺
I like effes, tbh larger is best drank in country of origin where it was designed to match local attributes, climate food pallet etc .
Its worth mentioning the Tyskie we get isn't the Polish stuff, its brewed by Asahi in the Netherlands.
Some of the bottles are still genuine polish stuff.
..& it's awful 🤦🏾♀️
I used to like the real stuff
EXCELLENT, thank you for this review. I've been looking to see where my nearest store is.
Home bargains were doing bottles of Nigerian Guinness for a while. They do have some random international beers in there from time to time, but things do come and go, so you cant always guarantee what will be there.
Simon can you do a comparison with the new German home bargains lager against the perlenbacher and steinhauser
Outstanding consumer advice as usual, will definitely try that Turborg
The Fici is in my local Lidl at the moment for 1.29. Had one last night, it is decent for the price but nothing to go wild about imo.
Best beer ?
Fantastic video, Simon. Thank you! Hope you had a nice wee…🤣
My big brother drinks DAB brought me some down to Kentucky from Chicago very good stuff!
Yep! Me and my pal Sarah love a Lucky Buddha!
Please bring back the Stoned Crow live sessions for Christmas Simon!
Try to get hold of Egyptian Stella.... It's not known whether it had connections to Stella Artois a hundred years ago but it is quite a distinct and unique lager.
@@jamesedgewood4643 Same as Brazilian Skol lager for some reason it's far superior there than the Original UK version
Much prefer drinking draught beer.
been drinking fici all summer from Home bargins.
Mythos is superb I think. It does have a weed smell to it I agree, but it’s similar to peroni for the smell. Lovely drinking I think
My fave beer at the moment is estralla dam. Its fantastic. Light refreshing beer and sensionable. Maybe not quite urquel or staropramen standards, but genuinely not far offand has that german/czech pilsner taste.
Estralla galitica is even better if you can find it
@richardjarratt4921
They sell small bottles of it in Lidl but it's expensive for Lidl. Big bottles I have seen in Sainsbury's occasionally.
Try the love lane porter. It's incredible.
Tried a Tuborg extra malt from Lidl recently. Nice.
Comes in a funky gold can with foil over the ring pull. 👌😆
Had Peroni red on draft in Rome...in an Irish bar as you should😂 wonderful 👍
I've tried Mythos and thought it was a very cheap and nothing beer, its high price is baffling.
I think Mythos lives off its reputation among holiday makers. Tastes much nicer in Crete on the beach!
I tried the tuborg gold the other day too not a bad beer at all
reckon all beers should be served in that lovely glass you poured the Fici in to
Brilliant review again love the channel.
I always drink peroni red when im in italy, which is several times a year but cant find it here in dublin. Ill be heading up north to stock up and bringing it back down by the case load
In USA Latin Americans would love that Mythos,,when I find marked down beer I a bootleg chill it as soon as possible and try it ,if it's good I go by a lot of it
The Efes Draft and Malt are lovely
The Lucky Buddha I had was DREADFUL. Smelt like a cannabis farm on opening. Had to chuck it down the sink. Seriously skunked.
The efes and Tuborg are great.

I love Pork Scratchings!!
But the Crisp Strips with an amazing can of Holstens Lager is the best!!!
mythos and fix reminds me of holidays in greece. Good times.
I love Home and Bargain a working class shop selling real imported beers which posh shops would chare much more for. BTW Tsing Tao is pronounced Ching-dow. they sell massive jars of olives for 1.20
That cloud water glass is brutal for head retention!!!!
Just been out and picked up some more of the Konigsgold ! 😋👌
Love the US marine haircut Simon 😂
Worth remembering the Tyskie in the cans isn't genuine Polish lager though. It's brewed in the Netherlands, which you could see on the side of the can as you were pouring it lol.
Hello my friend love the videos!!! Fiçi means barrel in Turkish and the bottle is shapped like a barrel not a glass! I agree it's my favourite quoff 😂😂😂
Just found a Wrexham lager in my local hb in Essex 5%..its just called Wrexham lager export.. With the dragon on it.. 😮
Once again 🤔 Brilliant 👍. But could you tell us the sell by Dates on the Ales, Lagers Please. Thanks 🍻🍻🍻🍻
