    I don't care what anyone says, or what figures anyone can produce about efficiency, reliability, pollution or anything else, the day we stopped employing these iron behemoths to move people round the country was the day the heart and soul went out of our nation!

    Perhaps the very heavy train would not have been so heavy if it had not been quite so full of fish , chips and Yorkshire pies! Compare and contrast the typical tripper in the seventies and nowadays. The point was made to me at a Pendle Beer Festival in Colne a few years back. They played a rolling video loop for most of the day on Nelson and Colne back in the seventies. No dodgy knees or zimmers then. Great film of NYMR though, my wife and l have just joined, looking to help recommission Dame Vera Lynn.

    Ha! I saw the thumbnail image on RUclips and instantly recognised Grosmont station. My wife and I did a 9 week UK/Ireland tour 6 years ago and did the tourist steam run from Whitby to Pickering return. That was a great day. I have a canvas print of a photo I took of Grosmont station hanging on the wall of my train room here at home 16,000km away. We did Elizabeth the steam traction bus too in Whitby. What a hoot.

      Yeah the stations on the NYMR are so iconic, and so easily recognizable. Or is that just because i like to spend as much time there as i can? Hmmm. I would always recommend at least 1 trip to any visitor, always a great day out, glad to hear you enjoyed it.

    I dunno who SO many drivers just WON'T use the sanders, but would rather risk buckling a con rod - the way that happened on one of Gresley's Pacifics a few years ago. Why do they think that loco engineers fitted the damn things?
    (and yes, I HAVE worked on the footplate - okay?)

    Is it just me or is the driver being really clever. He couldn't get any adhesion coming away from the platform. But then he looked out. Was he judging when the wheels would go over the crossing and then apply more power as they did. Was his thinking there would be dirt and grit on that bit of rail and therefore more friction ???

    • @MrDibbsey
      @MrDibbsey 2 года назад +1

      There's a bit of a ramp just before the crossing that affects the weitgh distribution, once you're up it things improve.

    Lovely scenes and sounds, well filmed. Disappointed to see a modern electric tail lamp on an otherwise authentic steam era train. Why not use a lamp from the same period?

    • @Daniel-go4ux
