    @2:40 about the seal beeing broken? James Hoffmann explained this issue, it's caused by the beans gassing co2. the vacuum seal is still ok.

    • @Tatertot01
      @Tatertot01 2 месяца назад +2

      Yea but he said sometimes he seals it before bed and when he wakes up the seal is broken. If it can't even hold a seal for more than 8 hours it's useless. Amazon's reviews are filled with complaints about this product constantly losing the vacuum. I would not purchase this.

    I'm sure you figured out your situation and adjusted but for me, Airscape was the solution. I still own Fellow vacuum canister and had absolutely no problems with it but for daily driver, Airscape is much easier/faster to use, seems to keep beans fresh, and really no moving parts so nothing to fail. maybe the robber gasket might wear out over time but easy to replace and not expensive at all. Only con is it doesn't look as cool as the Fellow canister but looks are subjective.

    Hey man! I've had the atmos for a year now. Have you noticed losing the seal with fresh beans? My theory is that the beans degas and hence the vacuum seal must be released so as to allow for gas release. My experience supports this theory as I've had fresh beans in the atmos break the seal in just a few days or even overnight. The older beans allow for the seal to hold for a longer time. I guess I can note that I like sealing the atmos very tight too

    • @petersamuels-coffee6735
      @petersamuels-coffee6735  2 года назад +6

      Hey there! I'm in the same boat as you. the only issue with that theory is that even now I have about 50 grams left from my last bag of coffee that I bought a little over 2 weeks ago, and regardless of the age, it still seems to break the seal. Not only that, but it didn't really start until a few months ago. I've also tried changing the tightness of the lid to see if helps to have it more loose or more tight, but I haven't noticed much of a difference. I can imagine the degasing process being strenuous on the lid though! So perhaps that is why it's not as strong as it used to be. Thanks for the questions and comments! Have an awesome rest of your day.

      This is not the reason as this problem worsens over time. I for example have a 1 year old one which has this problem and a new one. With coffee from the same bag equally distributed over both, the old one losses it's seal while the new one maintains it

    1 out of my 3 canisters has started to fail lately. followed the official cleaning guides still no luck. some says it could be the beans degasing and equalizing the pressure with CO2, but I tested it without storing anything. it still loses seal like you mentioned- sealed before bed, gone completely next morning. i contacted my distributor they are offering a replacement for me. otherwise I LOOOOVE this product. good user experience, good aesthetics.

    • @petersamuels-coffee6735
      @petersamuels-coffee6735  2 года назад

      That’s so odd! I mean I would be surprised if the main culprit wasn’t the degassing process, but you’d think they’d be aware of that issue and revolve the design around it. It really has been a good experience! I just wish my other canister held the seal through the 24 hour period before using it again.

      Absolutely. I actually got two brand new Atmos containers a few months ago, and one of the lids failed to hold a seal within the first week. Hopefully they fix the problem, but until then, I'd definitely look toward a different container.

  • @toddmalone4384
    @toddmalone4384 2 года назад +2

    Is the problem only with fresh beans... have you considered it is the new coffee just releasing CO2 naturally and filling what was a vacuum with gas, and therefore the seal would not be tight in the morning? At least this would be worth discussing so others understand this does happen with newly roasted beans!

    • @petersamuels-coffee6735
      @petersamuels-coffee6735  2 года назад

      That's an excellent point! I have found that there is a specific container that holds better for longer. What I've been doing recently is keeping my newer beans in the more reliable container, then keeping the older batch in the less reliable one. And even though the newer beans are in that one, it'll keep the seal for longer than the other. I'm pretty sure it's an issue with the lid in some way.

    Losing the seal is very normal because of the CO2 release from fresh roasted beans .
    Let the fresh roasted beans set for 7-15 days in the factory bag to let it release most of the CO2, after the 7-15 days open it and put the beans in the vacuumed container .

    • @findingbonsneuf
      @findingbonsneuf 9 месяцев назад

      The C02 release is normal, the fact that this product doesn't account for that isn't. It's such a shame that they didn't design this product to deal with gas release, for a relatively expensive item it shouldn't need a workaround for something which is intrinsic to what the product is for. I bought a bag of Monmouth coffee in London just over a week ago, which had been roasted a few days earlier, still had my previous beans to finish so the Monmouth beans stayed in the bag for about a week before being transferred in. Made a coffee on Saturday morning, sealed the canister, went out for coffee yesterday morning, this morning the seal has failed. That's not even two days.
      It's a poor product, I actually found this video looking for independent reviews for it so I could compare my own experience. It's a really nice canister but a badly designed waste of money. Mine was bought from Square Mile as a gift for me about 18 months ago, I wrote to them last year and they told me to take the filter apart and blow through the valve. It didn't make a difference.

    My thought's probably the rubber, rubber gets harden after sometime making the seal easily broken. Are the parts like rubber replaceable?

  • @johnsanford3596
    @johnsanford3596 7 месяцев назад

    The "broken seal" isn't a problem. The outgassing of carbon dioxide which pops the seal is HEAVIER than the air outside, so even if the seal is broken, the beans are then marinating in carbon dioxide. The same carbon dioxide that came FROM the beans.
    A hardcore coffee curious science nerd could develop a small O2 meter that either is Bluetooth or can store its readings, put it into the container with a bunch of coffee, and take the measurements over time to confirm or deny the real world impact of the seal breaking due to the outgassing. Because remember, it's the O2 that's gonna have a deleterious effect on the beans.

      Yeah. Since I have 2 of them I’ve even tried swapping the lids to see if that helped. The problem is I prefer to be solutions oriented, but I just don’t have an answer for what they could do on the design end to fix the problem. I mean the plastic for the lid isn’t exactly industrial. Maybe just higher quality materials would hold the seal for longer.

      @@petersamuels-coffee6735 hi there! I'm trying to pick one from the airscape and Atmos but have read that none of these two containers would do significantly better than the original coffee bag (ziplock)
      As far as the airscape goes, keeping the coffee in its original bag and purging manually as much air as possible would keep the beans even fresher (less trapped air)
      On the Atmos side, have heard it's very good but it seems that the sealing problem is not uncommon... So... What do you think? Any advice would be highly appreciated 👍

    • @petersamuels-coffee6735
      @petersamuels-coffee6735  2 года назад +2

      @@manuelpenaruiz3694 thanks so much for the question! I wouldn’t say that there’s a problem with using the original bag with a ziplock bag. The main difference would be esthetics. If you want something that looks a little classier but does well, I’d get the Fellow Atmos between that and the airscape. I like how the product feels in my early experience in using the airscape. The main thing would be to keep the receipt. If the Atmos lid is failing, they will likely send you another one. The one last thing to consider is if you want to turn the lid a bunch of times to make a seal or just push down and lock it in. If that doesn’t matter as much to you, I’d say the Fellow Atmos feels like a more solid product with a tighter seal than the Airscape. But that’s just me. I recently made a video about my first impressions with the airscape if you wanna check that out. Feel free to ask any other questions that you may have, and thanks again!

    • @manuelpenaruiz3694

      I bet but it doesn't allow you to purge enough air out as to stop beans oxidation (stale)
      If you can't pull out the air completely you're also keeping some moisture inside
      But airscape looks simpler and more reliable.
