    Having visited St. Andrew's in 1995 and been able to walk 1-2-3 then 16-17-18 back then it always strikes me that no one ever mentions the wind. It is a consistent 15-20 mph. That has to be recognized as a factor. That being said, I am a hack golfer, and when I stood on the 17th tee the first thing I thought was "no effing way" I could hit that tee shot. A great memory! I even have a picture of me on the bridge on 17 than Arnold Palmer made famous later that year!

      You are of course entitled to your opinion but i will never understand such comments, the oldest 18 holes in the world will of course be outdated! but that link to ground zero is what's special. It has progressed and remains a challenge, to say it provides no drama is an absolute untruth, but it's important that we retain this piece of heritage.

    • @sandersson2813
      @sandersson2813 Год назад +1

      @@lawrencel100 The first Open was held at Prestwick, it's been held at Musselburghb and it's been held at Royal Cinque Ports, so if they all have history, why isn't it played there any more?
      The history of a town doesn't make it a good venue. Goodison is an old stadium with history, but you wouldn't hold the Champions League final there .
      It is by far the weakest course on The Open rota, if not of all the majors. There are far too many easy holes, the fairways too wide, most bunkers not in play and the greens are too easy to hit. The closing stretch is poor and the course simply isn't capable of the drama one gets at Muirfield, Carnoustie, Troon or Portrush.
