    So I tried alcohol and orange oil method several times and it worked perfectly, but I tried only using alcohol too. Since essential oils are kind of expensive even short amounts. And it worked beautifully as well! I tried alcohol-only way once, so there could be different result though. Btw I used 100% alcohol and did human hair conditioner after alcohol washing.

      Where do you get 100% Alkohol... I'm in Germany and even Hand sanitizer has just 80% Isopropyl or Ethanol/Propanol so were can i get it? Drug store (Apotheke) just has 70€ Ethanol

    I see this is an old video but I just came across so maybe some people seeing it first time like me I'd like to add the Cif wash treatment as a recommendation. I've seen doll collectors online using that method, I have an OG Frankie too and kept jer n box for 10 years and she has same coloured and kinda sticky hair, I',ll try that method for sure

    I read somewhere that it's not actually glue seepage but it's a wax that they put in the hair to keep it silky, no frizz, and also it keeps it in the style they made.

    Gonna try oil. Then several washes with dish soap. Let's see!

    I am currently testing Permatex Fast Orange hand cleaner: The kind mechanics use on their hands after working on cars, except it doesn’t have pumice in it. The ingredients are: water in an emulsion with alcohol, lanoline, Aloe Vera, Jojoba and Vitamin A. It also contains some ingredients some would consider ‘unpronounceable’ and therefore unsafe, but in my opinion, if it’s safe to use on your hands according to the FDA, it is safe enough to cover a barbie’s head as long as it is washed well out. I use this as a regular hand cleanser as I have chronically dry skin and I love it. I never thought to use it on a barbie’s head before. ;).
    My plan is to leave it on her head for 2 hours, rinse it with tepid water, and then dunk her in some high dishsoap/water liquid a couple of time to get rid of the lanolin and the other oils. Since like dissolves like (which is the basic principle of how this cleanser works, plus the microemulsion with water means that it will rinse off with water taking the gunk with it), I kinda think it will work. I don’t know why I hadn’t thought of it before.
    I apologize for my grumpy attitude last night. As a biologist with a working knowledge of chemistry, I get a little twitchy at the words ‘safe’ ‘unsafe’. But the rubbing alcohol results seem very promising and I don’t know why I hadn’t thought of it before. The reason your barbie still looked greasy after was likely the orange oil you had added to the alcohol (not sure why people think orange oil will remove glue). One thing that works for sure is pure acetone. I only know this is because I customize dolls and I shrunk a EAH Melody’s head in acetone 3X times with hair intact, successfully with no glue to be seen afterward. But people might not be comfortable with that. Probably nail polish remover would work as well (with a dishwashing liquid washing liquid wash afterward to remove the added oils).

    • @QuietBloom
      @QuietBloom 5 лет назад +1

      I should add that acetone should be used cautiously as it does dissolve some times of doll hair. I have tested it on nylon and saran, and it was fine. I have seen the results of using it on acetate hair and let’s just say it turns incredibly kinky.

      Regular blue Dawn dishwashing detergent works great, you can get it at the Dollar tree. It’s a degreaser so it will remove the stickiness for a while until the glue seeps back out again then you can just wash it again with the Dawn.

  • @QuietBloom

    Alcohol will only break down glue until it evaporates, so if you want to give it a serious go, you need to keep the head dunked for whatever amount of time you decide to test.

    Goo Gone absolutely works and I haven't had it damage the dolls at all. I wad tryi g everything on that goopy glue mess, and saw the goo gone (its a chemical and smells like it has lemon oil in it as well,) and thought well what can it hurt to try, so bought it at dollar tree. I washed and conditioned the hair first and let it dry all the way, than poured some on my palm (if your sensitive to chemicals please wear gloves, a mask and eye protection, I'm an old idiot and don't always follow safety precautions) anyway I massaged it into the doll hair throughly and left it alone for 10 minutes, than came back to it and squeezeed out the excess goo gone and used dawn dish soap to wash the goo gone out of the hair, than I washed and conditioned her hair again, and viola the gluey gloppy mess was gonw and she had sopt beautiful hair, best of all I didn't have to reroot her hair.

    Do you think its a good idea to do these methods inside the head itself? I kind of want to do it to permanently fix this issue but I'm afraid all the hair will come out lol

    • @HoneyBeeHappyMe
      @HoneyBeeHappyMe  5 лет назад +3

      The glue holds the hair inside the head. If you pour GooGone or the homemade version i put together directly into the head, it will probably dissolve the glue. I would guess the hair would then fall out. I haven’t tried it; I’m just guessing.

      @@HoneyBeeHappyMe Okay thanks for your comment. I guess I'm not gonna put it inside the head haha. Btw, I used sweet almond oil on one of my dolls hair and the glue came off really well. Maybe you can try this out and see if it works for you too.

    • @ALT-vz3jn

      You can try just using the regular blue Dawn detergent! It will cut the grease in the hair and make it nice. Then use talcum powder at the roots that will absorb the glue as it seeps out of the head. Then just reuse the Dawn detergent as needed.

  • @QuietBloom

    I think what works best is car engine degreaser. Do it outside, and yes it is toxic, but gets the grease out. At least temporarily.

    • @HoneyBeeHappyMe
      @HoneyBeeHappyMe  5 лет назад +5

      The purpose of testing these other options is because commenters were asking for safer less toxic options. Some of them thought Goo Gone was to harsh. 😉
