Please take off your ring while working. If you hit it with the hammer you may lose you finger. Take it from an old machinist/die maker. And when working the insulation where long sleeves. You have your arms in there deep with no protection.

It only takes one time hitting your ring, even if it barely turns it into a non circular ring, to learn. I did it and turned my wedding ring into an egg shape. I had to get my dremel out and cut it off. Learned my lesson. I now only wear silicone rings when working on anything, especially when working on vehicles. Insulation...no thank you. Even with long sleeves I get jacked up. Only time I mess with that nonsense is if I've wrapped my arms with shrink wrap about ten times, wear long sleeves, and tape my gloves to the shirt. I still get nailed with them awful fibers. I now hire people to do my insulation jobs. Nothing worse while working on a job site than the fiberglass itch and burn. Fiberglass...i am not a fan

I did some aluminum casting in one of my engineering classes and we used a different kind of casting sand that I think had some sort of oil mixed in with it. We never had to preheat the sand or the form, just make our mold and do the casting. Petrobond is the one MIT uses. Good luck with the rest of your coin casting, I'm looking forward to seeing the next update!

You gotta do the 50/50 method. Half sand on bottom packed extremely tightly. Plus the other half packed tightly with a hole to pour the metal in. I'm having issues explaining it, but RUclips will show you how. You have to have the metal under pressure to fill in the details and keep the metal from forming bubbles, which is what happened with all the pits you saw. My explainer button in my brain is on hiatus apparently, so my explanation is vaguely vague to say the least. You'll get it figured out in no time m Practice makes perfect...enough 😆

A few tips, using degassing tablets, pour it hot, steady and have your route planned. Keep all water away from your crucible and kiln. Set you crucible on fire brick and you have to pack your casting sand harder. Big one was the adjustable pliers and not using the degassing tablets.

i made a torch and started a burn tank out of a old empty propane tank. most people don't have issues but they also make a flame back safety that you can add into the line to ensure you don't ever have a tank blow up on ya lol. I do believe it's extremly rare to happen but they have them out there. I also added a air adjust to the end of my torch to adjust the oxygen intake into the torch to adjust the flame. But nice work for sure and loved seeing this video here ha ha

years ago for my job on a oil rig we had to melt some lead. We had a ladle out of a piece of 2 1/2" pipe that had a cap welded to the bottom with a metal rod welded for a handle and able to stand back far enough. We then used a propane torch to heat the ladle and dropped pieces of lead into it. It got the job done.

Great video on the foundry. I didn’t realize it was a 40 min video it went fast. I watch a foundry guy on RUclips. He is from Australia, he does all kinds of foundry and casting things. He’s Very informative. His channel is bigstackD Casting. He takes scrap items and recycles them trash to treasure. Check it out I think you will enjoy what he has to offer. And a few tips for your foundry as well. He makes casting sand from kitty litter. It’s a cheaper and safer alternative, however He never speaks a word but is very very informative. Make sure to watch for Little ingot I’m not saying what little Ingot is, I’ve watched for long enough I’ve seen him grow up. Anyways Thank You for helping our planet it’s great to see a caring person taking a few steps forward for everyone. Great channel I’m always riveted waiting on the next video. I cast with molten glass so I'm guessing this is a similar process. You need more depth and to fluff up your casting sand to get air into it so you can push a stamp in effectively. Make sure it isn't too moist as well. When you push your stamp into the sand push it right in so you push out the air from where you are pouring your metal and you have deeper sides. You need space to make holes around the edge to allow hot air to escape. When glass bubbles like that we use a blow torch straight away to flatten them. You need some tongs and heat resistant boots as well...I was scared lol

I'm no expert but I've watched a few casting videos and the one thing the fellows who do this a lot use is what they call "Greensand", which seems to hold details pretty well. Take a look at some of the videos uploaded by myfordboy, and the process he uses, maybe it can be adapted to suit your purpose. I'm sure there must be other home metal casting channels that may help you also. Good luck and see you in the water sir!

And by the way I am a Mod for a couple other channels and I watch the comments and sometimes people post sex websites on the comments all I can do is report them and have them removed but they post them and again I haven't saw any on your channel yet but if you would like to fix it where I can block them because this is a Family channel you could make me a mod it's totally up to you but I will do my best to let you know if I see any and if I do I will report them and let you know and give you the name of the one who is posting it so you can block them but anyway I'm watching out for y'all so you don't have to worry but keep up the great work I absolutely love you channel

You are building a gas melt furnance which is part of the foundry process. I have worked 40 years in the Foundry / metal casting industry. I have owned a small foundry if 3,000 sq ft and one of 12,000 sq ft. I am in process of putting one back together.

I suggested you get a bigger vise. I watch my uncle hold a round object to drill threw which I already knew you don’t do and he had his hand to close to the drill and the bit slid over very fast and it went right threw his hand. He said I didn’t hurt going in but I knew it hurt coming out cause he had to reverse it all the way threw his hand. Please don’t make his mistake. He really regretted it.

Need to bake your casting sand after doing your impression. It needs to be dry. And be very careful adding ANY metal after you have a molten mass, you may get a visit from the tinsel fairy if it has even a drop of water in it because of the steam explosion that would lift the lid off the foundry! Best to know in advance how much you need and add a little extra. You can always re smelt it and it will have less dross to it.

Smh... Did you really think the dry wood could handle melted metal without catching fire...but i absolutely love that you test a whole lot of stuff. Appreciate that. Been binging these videos for a few days now and still have some to watch. I kind of go randomly so not watching them in order and i forget to comment i just hop to the next video when one video ends 😹

The air pressure valve does not work on propane. Propane is liquid in the tank with vapor above. The vapor is what you use and the amount is not read on the gauge.

Have you discovered letter drill bits yet?
Often A fractional or even metric drill bits will not produce the best sized hole for a tap,
Letter drill bits fall into these gaps and are sized to give you a perfect hole for tapping.

I gotta say I love your videos but man this was by far the funniest of them all.
I as a plumber who has melted metals previously and done a bit of casting, this, I have to say, reminds me of my first attempt, it wasn't funny for me at the time but watching you, well I was practically rolling around on the floor with laughter.
On a more serious note. Dude you need to get the right crucible lifting equipment if you try to do this again. Seriously I was cringing as you lifted the crucible out with those pliers. Man if you don't want to hurt yourself seriously please do as I advise here on this topic. I have had crucibles that break when they are lifted unevenly . I see you are using a quality crucible and the temps that you are working with are not too high but man rather be safe than sorry. I want to watch loads more of your videos, but not of you in a hospital bed trying to get over burns. I've been there for 6 weeks and got off lightly and have the scares to prove it. Please man work safely we all love you videos.
As a foot note, I believe metal casting is an art not everyone can do it. You may need to get help from someone who has more knowledge in this area to maybe show you and give you tips. RUclips is a great source also . Good luck man love from New Zealand.
