    There is so much to learn about diets and so much disinformation. I wanted to present a comprehensive view of the Ketogenic diet to make it easier to understand risks/benefits.The one thing not included here is the environmental impact, which is drastic.

    I was doing the ketogenic diet for one year, and I lost all my muscle mass...I was waiting to get adapted to fat burning, but my genetic does let me use the ketones that well. I was always tired, and my blood pressure was 90/65..I was having right upper quadrant pain.. Now I eat potatoes, plants, a little bit of protein, and I am beginning to gain muscle mass again.. I try to do 20 hours fasting every day... It is ironic, but the less protein I eat the more muscle mass I retain .Thank you for all that great information....!!

      Glad you found a healthy balanced program. 20 hours of fasting may be a little bit much. The majority of studies are 14-18 hours of fasting for optimal results. Small tweak but could help in the long run

    Ketogenic diet promoters (RUclipsrs, all) promise great things. Your thoughts surely reinforce my skepticism. I’ll take my chances with plants. Thanks!

      I always recommend a whole-food plant-based diet. But for those who must do keto, there are ways to make a ketogenic diet healthier. Add more healthy fats from plants, be more liberal on healthy whole food carbs (fruits, whole grains, legumes), use fasting. Some folks with severe migraines or seizures find keto to be helpful in their journey.

    @SELFprinciple My goodness. I was prescribed a ketogenic diet to manage my illnesses that I am out of treatment options for. Psoriatic arthritis, Ehlers danlos syndrome, myasthenia gravis, dysautonomia, fibromyalgia and gastroparesis. It helped manage those things for a while. BUT then I ended up having protein in my urine and my GFR dropped from 115 to 82. I was shocked. But I had been eating 80-100g protein and 125g of fat a day. I didn’t feel great but my illnesses were quiet so I kept going.
    I’ve tried to eat WFPB but the fiber exacerbates my gastroparesis even in smoothie form. So now I’ve dropped protein to 65g a day and only eat meat once a day. (I weigh 113 at 5’5) I want to eliminate animal products even more but it’s super hard.
    I’ve failed every attempt to heal. My stomach just doesn’t function well enough. I was on a feeding tube for 8 mos and I don’t want that again. Unfortunately animal products are easier on my system. But I’m trying really hard to get in micronutrients with adding green juice to my day.
    Thank you for sharing your passion. I am praying someday my body will accept plant based fully. As for now, I have been off the ketogenic diet for 5 weeks.

    As someone who struggled with insulin resistance and weight fluctuations, discovering HyperKeto was a game-changer. Unlike fad diets that promise quick fixes but often lead to disappointment, HyperKeto offers a sustainable approach to weight loss and improved metabolic health. By limiting carbohydrate intake and prioritizing healthy fats, this program helps stabilize blood sugar levels and promote fat loss without sacrificing taste or satisfaction. Trust me, HyperKeto is not just a diet-it's a lifestyle transformation.

    Excellent videos. Your channel was recommended by one of my colleagues.
    I am wondering if your views on the Carnivore diet. As you mentioned in your video, sustainability is a huge issue. However, a consideration I had not thought of prior to reviewing Carnivore diet was the difference in the nutrition with organ meats (ex. liver) compared to standard meat. I look forward to your response

    • @SELFPrinciple
      @SELFPrinciple  2 года назад +3

      Thank you so much for the kind words. I think people confuse the idea of organ meats with outcomes. For example, B1 or thiamin found in the liver is linked to lower risk of alzheimers disease. But there are lots of sources for thiamine and the majority of foods are enriched with it. So whether you are following a carnivore diet or plantbased diet, you can get the same benefits. After researching the field of nutrition for the last 13 plus years, I have found that as we incorporate more whole food, plant-based diets into our lifestyle, the more likely we are to lower our overall disease risk. This style of eating is also consistent with helping the environment and lowering our carbon footprint.

    It was really more low Carb then ketogenic more like 50 g of total sugar a day.

    Good summary but I am still confused about cholesterol levels. Early on you say that HDL and triglyceride levels increase ie.good but LDL also going up ie.bad. As I have high cholesterol even on a WFPB diet with low fat and no SOS and my doctor wants me to take statins (and I don't), I tried water fasting and then followed that with a modified keto diet for me as a vegan. It is restrictive but I am losing more weight. I find drinking enough hard and my kidney aches sometimes so this diet will not be long-term. Otherwise I feel good but no noticeable memory/cognitive improvement after 2 weeks.

      Hi Lynda. Thanks for your comment/question. The one thing I would say is that adopting a long-term plan is very important. If you do a short-term diet and stop, the rebound can sometimes be worse than when you started. With regard to statins, if you are someone who can't tolerate them or doesn't want to use them, you can try plant sterols and stanols to start and see how they help you. Take a look at this study that was a meta-analysis of 124 studies showing plant sterols/stanols lowering LDL by up to 12%. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/24780090/
