It is very interesting that in some circles in Australia people are so strangely narrow minded and have such a twisted morality that they somehow believe Mr Hill and Ms Clay deserved to be murdered because they were having an affair . These could just as well have been young people , a married couple … anyone . The unfortunate circumstance is that they happened to camp next to a psychopath with a gun . His extraordinary arrogance led him to lie to the police in a quasi “ confession “ believing that his story , however preposterous , was the one the jury would side with . This couple did not deserve to be murdered any more than any other Australian citizen . A tragedy for themselves and their families . Most Australians are indeed wondering why there was only one murder conviction and not two … but grateful that at least there was one conviction of murder found and the monster was locked up .
Russel may have been a cheater but he did not deserve to be murdered by a stranger. The jury was specifically instructed that they could not make a manslaughter finding - they could only find him guilty or not guilty of first degree murder of Russel and Carol. Lynn took a high-risk strategy of confessing to the disposal of the bodies and suggested that all of his suspicious behaviour could be accounted for by him trying to cover up this crime. It was conceivable that he killed Russell by accident or during a fight but it was not conceivable that he killed Carol by accident. The jury was out for a week and at one point checked with the judge that they could find Lynn guilty of one count and not guilty of the other count of murder. They were only allowed to consider evidence put before them in the court; there were probably many details that for one reason or another did not make it into the court room. Lynn was so efficient in his disposal of the bodies that only a fragment of one of Carol's bones was found. Finding someone guilty of murder beyond reasonable doubt is so hard in a case like this. All power to the police and forensic teams who did an incredible job to get a conviction for Carol's murder. And all respect for Russel's widow who has been nothing but dignified during this whole process having to face not only her husband's meaningless death but also discovering his cheating and knowing it was being discussed worldwide. Even once the case was over, she said she bore Carol no ill will and was relieved that Lynn had at least been convicted of her death.
Well put, I cannot agree any more. The jury were put in a very difficult position, and due to mistakes made by the detectives interviewing Greg, much of their evidence was inadmissible and not put before the court/Jury.
Thanks for covering this one! I am not sure I agree with the jury on this one. But I do believe he killed Carol to eliminate a witness. There’s a show on 60 Minutes Australia this weekend that I’m going to watch which goes into this in depth.
Remember how juries work. Ruling ‘Not Guilty’ doesn’t mean they think he’s innocent, rather that the prosecution didn’t put forward a strong enough case to convict.
@@TeChNoWC7 Yes indeed. I've actually done a few tours on Jury Duty as well. I am always amazed that here people are not charged with other things. Like, why wasn't he charged with destruction of evidence, tampering with a corpse, all those other things. I think sometimes it's too black and white. Once case I had was an assault. We all knew he was guilty, but because of the one single charge which the prosecutor didn't adequately prove, we had to let him go. So many other things we could have convicted him on. Frustrating.
Sometimes the facts speak for themselves, in which case it's the defence that has to present a plausible alternative to the most obvious conclusion. The only way the jury could've gone with Not Guilty is if they thought his "self defence/fell on the knife" story was plausible, despite everything else that was proven about the events. It also means they bought his "nobody would believe me" excuse for destroying the scene, including both the woman (assuming hers was the second death) and any exculpatory evidence supporting his story (which he wouldn't have done if he thought there was any), then hiding both the bodies, then returning to them later to incinerate them. They believed he murdered the woman, and there wasn't anyone else around who could've killed the other victim, which only leaves accidental death and self-defence as alternatives to murder. The only open question is the timeline. Either the man died first, accidentally or by being killed in self-defence (if you are to believe both Lynn and the jury), in which case the woman was "just another piece of evidence" to be destroyed, apparently out of fear for his credibility; or, he murdered the woman first, which would exclude the claim of self-defence, leaving only "an accident that immediately followed, but was unrelated to, the murder" as an alternative possibility for the man's death. Either way, he went to great lengths to conceal the deaths themselves, their causes, and all the events surrounding them, while claiming both were accidents. The jury believed that he lied about the woman's death being accidental, because he murdered her, yet still considered him credible enough to buy the rest of his story? They must've all been wearing yoga pants, because that's one hell of a stretch.
Greg Lynn’s confession to police has now been released. I highly suggest anyone interested in this case to watch it. The way he describes it is obviously story telling. He has had a long time to come up with that story after all. He constantly goes between past tense and present tense. Russell Hill threatened to take his drone footage of Greg Lynn hunting close to the camp to the police. That is what got Greg so upset. Ridiculous how he wasn’t found guilty for both murders. Why would he burn the bodies if he thought that might verify his stories? He did it so he could make up whatever he likes after destroying all the evidence.
Im completely not buying the story. Other people have disappeared in that area and i don't believe this is a camping argument. I think this guy went hunting for more than deer and the two campers wrre in the wrong place at the wrong time. He should be investigated regarding the other missing persons in the area. The way he disposed of the bodies seems like he has experience.

Loved the Viagra joke. One thinks that 70-something folks would be beyond such sexually/emotional dramatic Shenanigan's, but no. It is, however, easy to believe that a 70-something man used his drone to spy on another man who had "camped too close" for his privacy and the whole thing escalates to violence.
Another theory is that the geriatric love birds wanted to have their little tryst next to the river but Lynn was already camped there causing tension. You would be surprised how much shagging goes on in these over 55 communities here in the states. There are catfights over men (if you can live to retirement home age there are plenty of thirsty octogenarian women to choose from) as well as STD outbreaks since no one is afraid of pregnancy. A lot of fancy retirement homes feel eerily like college dorms except everyone is absolutely old.

1st thing I thought of when I first heard of this a few years ago is that camp site was the favorite spot for both of them, and it just so happened they both turned up at the same time and neither was budging. I have come across such people when camping in the bush and its best to pack up and find another spot.
My gut tells me that an argument turned into a double murder. Most people would move their camp when next to a unagreeable person, but some people like to egg the conflict on. This is big news here in Australia at the moment. I don’t buy the accidental death of Mr Hill and the subsequent murder of Mrs Clay. I think killed them in the heat of an argument and then concocted a story to try to mitigate the trouble he was in.
@@SpaceKhajiit So you're saying I got the facts wrong, or that you don't like the words I used to describe the facts? Because from what I can see watching this video, both these men were disagreeable jerks and the lady was knowingly engaging in an affair with a man that had been married for decades. That makes her an adultress, or colloquially, a loose woman. I'm not offended by her behavior. I'm just the fact that she was knowingly engaged in immoral sexual activity. Honestly, you seem like the one that's offended here.
Dr. Grande, I have watched your channel for a long time and always find your insights interesting. My concern is that your humor (while enjoyable) sometimes diminishes the fact that someone lost their life. I find your alliterative case summaries, in particular, trivialize the terrible reality of murder. This is, of course, a matter of taste - I just prefer when you focus more on the psychological insight rather than the humor.
I noticed doctor Grand does the humor when there’s no cruelty involved in the crime and when the perpetrators and victims are ridiculous people who can be criticized for their behavior before the crime itself.

Three people arrived there, only one left alive. He extensively interfered with evidence that might demonstrate the sequence of events that lead to the deaths of the deceased. That alone proves beyond any doubt that he had killed the other two.
Exactly. And the offenders weapon was the murder weapon. I think the jury was a bit lenient with the 'beyond reasonable doubt' here - I wonder if a judge-only trial would have had the same outcome?

These could just as well have been young people , a married couple … anyone . The unfortunate circumstance is that they happened to camp next to a psychopath with a gun . His extraordinary arrogance led him to lie to the police in a quasi “ confession “ believing that his story , however preposterous , was the one the jury would side with . This couple did not deserve to be murdered any more than any other Australian citizen . A tragedy for themselves and their families . Most Australians are indeed wondering why there was only one murder conviction and not two … but grateful that at least there was one conviction of murder found and the monster was locked up .
That is such a messed up, callous attitude. You are both extremely damaged individuals.

"You will 'roo the day!" 😂
Yeah yeah.
Excellent comments. Good on you.
Well put, I cannot agree any more. The jury were put in a very difficult position, and due to mistakes made by the detectives interviewing Greg, much of their evidence was inadmissible and not put before the court/Jury.
I hope I never end up on here with Dr Grande speculating about what might be happening in a situation like mine 😅
I have had that exact thought.
I don't believe anything Greg said.
Excellent analysis, thank you. In Australia we were surprised that the jury did not find Greg guilty of both murders.
When it comes to sentencing I suspect the judge will take this into account. He sure as shit murdered them both.

Thanks for covering this one! I am not sure I agree with the jury on this one. But I do believe he killed Carol to eliminate a witness. There’s a show on 60 Minutes Australia this weekend that I’m going to watch which goes into this in depth.
60 Minutes Australia is sensational trash tv
Remember how juries work. Ruling ‘Not Guilty’ doesn’t mean they think he’s innocent, rather that the prosecution didn’t put forward a strong enough case to convict.
@@TeChNoWC7
most people do not understand that. they have "gut feelings", "believes" ; "think", etc

I have come across such people when camping in the bush and its best to pack up and find another spot.
Doc you're the best. You certainly have a way with words.
My gut tells me that an argument turned into a double murder. Most people would move their camp when next to a unagreeable person, but some people like to egg the conflict on.
@M-yb1cc Nobody deserves a violent death for cheating
This is big news here in Australia at the moment. I don’t buy the accidental death of Mr Hill and the subsequent murder of Mrs Clay. I think killed them in the heat of an argument and then concocted a story to try to mitigate the trouble he was in.
The judge actually instructed the jury directly that they could not consider manslaughter. Hence, the not guilty result for Russell Hill's murder.
To summarize: Two bullies meet up in the forest and end up in a fight to the death that also claims the life of a loose woman.

@@SpaceKhajiit So you're saying I got the facts wrong, or that you don't like the words I used to describe the facts?
