    I ve got the Himalayan , got it last year done almost 5k trouble free miles on it and love it. Before that I had the cb500x and can honestly say I much prefer the himmy. Not as fast obv on the road but will happily sit at 60 all day and you can go anywhere. I m only 5,6” and it s far easier than the cb500x to move about . Go for it you won’t regret it .

    As an old hand, 49 years, I've ridden hundreds of bikes, as a traffic cop all the big tourers, I've personally owned 96 bikes with my 97th on order (Honda 750 Hornet) 👍 I had a R/E meteor for 6 weeks, over 2 weeks it was off the road, stuck in 2nd gear (recovery job), 2 x EML lights, blown rhs fork seal and the speedo needle stuck at 60 mph, (new clock 0 miles, had covered 1400 on old)) As soon as it was repaired the last time I sold it. R/E are very agricultural, and heavy, PLEASE take my advice and get a Japanese twin 👍, I've had 12 CB's & NC's, none have ever missed a beat, great fuel economy and utter reliability plus the chicness of super slick gearbox, slipper clutch and smooth ride and can be easily loaded with panniers and topbox. My adventure bike is the Honda CRF300 Rally, only 27 bhp, but it is a very competent and ultra reliable green laner and decent road bike (much better than my previous 250L + a 240 mile range) A CB500X with 50/50 tyres can do green laning but a bit on the heavy side. 😐 I strongly advise for a good riding experience (some say bland) , buy a Honda, or something from the other 3 main Japs, they are well worth the extra investment and don't depreciate as bad as R/E either. I've had 86 Jap bikes 1 breakdown, 2 German, 1 breakdown, 2 Austrian, 1 breakdown, 1 Indian, 1 breakdown, 3 Italian, 1 breakdown, says it all really 🙂 Good luck with your search and I'm glad you've soon realised that bikes are addictive😂🤣, I have 5, and with the Hornet will be 6, well why not 👍 Stay safe 🙂

    At 438 pounds it's heavy for a 25 HP bike and limits its top speed on the highways. If you want a bike in same weight range, that's not that much more in cost, to consider a 2022 Honda CB500X with 48 hp, 439 lbs wet with new suspension and dual front disk brakes. It's a good choice and what's important is there are a lot more shops that will work on them and parts availability. I fitted my out with engine guard, panniers and luggage racks, with soft luggage empty, bringing it to 485 lbs. I'm 79 and can sill lift it without luggage.. With adjustable rear spring setting on 5, I weight a little over 210 and luggage is 50 to 60, the bike handles well both on and off the road. It you want a lighter bike for more off road ridding since you be dropping it more, the Honda CRF 300 Rally at 27 HP and 308 pounds wet would be a good choice.

    hi, old biker here, i love your channel. i have been riding 60 years from the age off 16, you have a gr8 time ahead of you. i have been riding Harleys for most of the time, but hade a mad moment and got my a Himalayan, best fun i have had for years. keep up the good work.

    Hello Charlie, good video. I have learnt , over a 50 year period riding bikes, that Honda are top quality and have a finish which will last many years with proper care. I have two Hondas at present. I have ridden large adventure bikes and the high seat height can be an issue for those, like you, with short legs. Prompted by this video, I researched the CB500X and it looks exciting, especially the newer 2022 model with twin front discs. Don't miss the chance of a test ride and I wish you well with your decision making. Enjoy your riding. You clearly enjoy your biking adventures.

    I have a 2020 Himalayan which I bought earlier this year, as brand new old stock through Royal Enfield, (my brother bought one at the same time, also brand new old stock). These Euro 4 bikes are more legally tuneable, which is why we went for these. They are amazing bikes, on and off road and some simple and cheap mods will enable a faster cruising speed. DNA air filter and open intake, iridium spark plug, uprated camshaft, FuelX Lite module and a different rear chain sprocket, loosing a few teeth. These mods will allow you to cruise comfortably faster than the lorries can, without affecting acceleration when compared to a stock bike. This is most important in my experience of more major roads and I'm sure you'll agree with this too. Second hand values stay quite high, so only a couple of hundred quid could mean the difference between a 10k mile bike and a 2k one. Great video btw. Really enjoyed your review.

    I have a UK 2019 B4 Himalayan. Bought at 2,900 miles, generally regarded as been fully ran in. Holiday in France, top speed 85 mph, cruising 70 mph no problem all day long. No vibes at all. Recently sold my Versys 650 GT (Great bike) and fully loaded the Himalayan, this bike has SOUL.

    I would wait for the new himalayan 450 to come out, increase in horsepower from 24hp to 40hp and water-cooled. Still a single. 40hp is perfect balance for on and off road. Still be cheap as chips as its royal enfield. A number of quality issues with early bikes including failed welds / frames. The 24hp will get even cheaper when that comes out so if not bothered about the hp, pick up a bargain then.

    Hi Charlie, Great video. I've just watched all of you Scotland videos and its given me the confidence to continue on my biking journey. I'm late to biking (I'm in my late 40's) and got my CBT this summer. I'm looking at getting my full licence by the end of the year with the aim of doing some touring in 2023. Hope to see more touring videos on the channel soon.

      Good man, stick at it.
      Once you've passed your test and got a bigger bike you're gonna love getting away for a few days on your big bike.
      You don't even need a big fast bike for touring as Charlie has shown.
      I myself ride a Royal Enfield Classic 350 and I've been all over the place on it.

    I've had a Himalayan for three and a half years and it is now how I want it.
    A few engine mods and ergonomic enhancements and bingo.
    I've got other bikes but this one is used daily.
    Honda has the build quality but the Himalayan has a soul.
    At the end of the day you will know which one feels right for you.

    Charlie, for your interest, CWM at Chichester have apparently put a 650 engine into the Himalayan. Could be interesting.....
    Also, the Bikers Formula for the number of machines you can own is N + 1, N being the number you currently have! My total went back up to three in March....though in my defence, I haven't had a car for well over thirteen years! In fact I've only been in three cars since covid hit and driven one of them a couple of miles🤭.
    Have fun in your search but do investigate the mileage between, and cost of servicing. You might find a huge cost difference with the Honda.
    Have a lot of fun, I'm 66 but just mucking about a bit more now, big smiles 😃 😊

    Morning Charlie.
    I've been binge watching your videos and really enjoyed them all.
    Now to be fair I deliberately haven't read the other comments as yet so as nor to be influenced in any way.
    There's nothing wrong with the Himalayan and like all the Enfield range they will have there fan base, bur I think once you have ridden the Honda 500 twin with its extra power,around 42 BHP I believe, then you will see the difference in a positive way and not intimidating at all.Also the fit and finish and premium build quality is far superior in my opinion.
    For the sort of adventure exploring rideing you are doing its ideal and I think if you spend the extra on it,it will pay dividend in the end.
    This is only my opinion and it doesn't mean its right,its just what I would do in your situation.
    I'm just a stupid bloke with little between my ears in the way of brain's, but I have covered plenty of miles on various bikes and the adventure tourer style for jolly hollies and camping trips is the way to go and like you when it's hammering down, just get a travel lodge somewhere 😀.

    Nice video, I’ve got a Ducati scrambler 1100 that I use for fast twisty roads but for a while I’ve been wanting something that I can take off road and the Ducati is definitely not that, so after watching many u tube videos I decided on the scram 411, reasons; first it’s cheap new, so if i drop it it wouldn’t cost much to repair, second it’s low centre of gravity makes it feel light to use off road, third it’s cheap to modify to make it preform better off road and give it more bhp, the reason I didn’t get the Himalayan is that the scram is a more basic bike to add on what I wanted to add if that makes sense. Update I’ve just realised you have tested the scram on another video, and I’m pleased you like it.

    At 52 I just purchased my Himalayan a couple of months back. Absolutely love it ! Can’t get the smile off my face every time I ride it. You won’t regret it.

    Hi Charlie
    I have a 2021 CB500X on which I have changed the "dogbones" and my seat height is 760mm.
    This cost me around £20 from eBay so no need to mess with the existing seat. I have been watching your channel for a while and anyone who can replace an air filter or fit a cruise control can easily change the " dogbones" on a CB500X.
    I have owned my bike for 18 months and it now has 19,000 miles on it, this is because It have toured through 16 different countries in that time. Very comfortable, enough power, reliable and 80 miles to the gallon. I'm 61 years old and have been riding for 45 years.

    A friend of mine has the Honda and he goes on proper adventures on it. He has a you tube channel Adventurescot.
    I have a Benelli Leoncino 500 which is no adventure bike but has a punchy little engine, this same engine is in the Benelli TRK which is a road/adventure bike. Big comfy machine with a 20 litre fuel tank so good for getting in the miles. Check them out, you may be surprised. Shame you can't keep 2 bikes but I have a Royal Enfield Classic 500 as well as the Benelli. If I could only have 1 then the Benelli would be gone. Good luck with your hunt and I hope you find your ideal adv bike.

    I have been riding a Himalayan since 2019. Also watching reviews of them for longer than that. Each one is an individual so do not make a decision based on one ride. The ones we get in the States will do 70 two up on the motorway. They are also "travel ready" with tons of aftermarket travel gear. Throw on a set of cheap saddlebags and a tail bag, set the rear shock preload, fill the tank and take off for Mongolia

    Hi there's a lady on RUclips it's called scrambler stories. She has a Honda Rebel & she has made it to be more of an adventure motorcycle. They do a 500cc & an 1100. The engine is the same as the African Twin.

    Once you get on the 500x I predict you will fall in love with it , fantastic motor super reliable 8000 Mile service intervals twice that of the Enfield if I'm not mistaken I owned one for 2 years and it was just a great little bike so easy to ride and live with, toured Ireland on mine was a complete pleasure to ride and own and will no doubt end up owning another at some point.

    Himalayan owner here Charlie, a Wrinkly, passed my bike test in 1964 and been a bike owner since. I live amongst the twisty, sometimes mud/ leaf spattered/ Tractor mangled lanes of West Wales where the Himalayan is for me, the perfect bike. If your future bike riding is going to be 60%+ green/ country lane type riding then a Himalayan will do the trick and not cost you an arm and a leg for parts and servicing as some other well known bikes do. If most of your riding is going to be road touring with only the occasional bumpy bit, then it's a good idea to wait for the RE 650 twin

    I've been riding for 61 years ,had quick bikes and adventure bikes and taken them many times around Europe but now find the himalayan as a second bike absolutely fantastic for doing as they say all roads and no roads,would be happy to take it anywhere,its a willing and good tempered mule.good luck with your search, look forward to seeing what you decide on.

    Choices, choices eh Charlie.
    You didn’t say where you’ve booked your trials experience day but if it’s Superior Motorcycles in Dorset you’ll have cracking day & really get to see what those tough Himalayan’s can do. I did it in the spring & it’s what got me interested in the RE’s.
    Ive test ridden all the smaller ones now but still can’t make my mind up. To be honest I do find them just a tad under powered & so hanging on to see if they do up the engine size.
    They are all cracking bikes although I’d rate the Scram as least of them.
    Btw, I bought my Tiger 1050 at Blades. When I test rode it I didn’t come back for about 3hrs, nearly ran out of fuel & they weren’t best pleased. I bought it though & still have it. Not a bad dealership as they go.

    It's fun working your way up through bike changes and we get influenced very much by others experiences.
    Off road training is definitely the first step if you want to go down that route.
    A few tips I'll share with you is off road you have to be loose not tense on the bike as the bike will want to go it's own path and as long as you look where you want to go it will probably go there. Don't look anywhere else as that's where you will end up.
    Start on something you are comfortable on. Seat height is an issue and can be confidence boosting if you are not tip toeing.
    A lot of offroaders will say it's all in the style but they've been riding for many years.
    Keep it light and low.
    Enjoy your experience.

    If your quest for adventure continues take a look at the KTM390 with a lowering kit fitted.
    Very capable machine and light.

    charlie i had never even thought about royal enfields until i started following your channel i was quite happy on my trusty fun honda CRF250L and had loads of adventures but you know what i have gone and done i have bought a new royal interceptor 650 in the beautiful ventura blue and i am going to put some nobly 50/50 bridgestone tyres on her so she is capable of some laning anyway just wanted to say thank you and she is an absolute beauty to ride anyway keep smiling lovely and keep doing your stuff cheers lots russell

    You are doing the right thing Charlie in trying out the bikes, to find what suits you best.

    Hello, just watched your Scottish trip really enjoyed it. Also just watched your puncture repair episode. Pretty sure the Himalayan has inner tubes, so your repair kit would be of no use. You would need to carry a spare inner tube, tyre levers and tools to remove a wheel. That would take a lot of space if you go camping!! What ever bike you go for keep in mind that having tubeless tyres has to be considered for ease of repair when you are off roading. It is a little bit of a minefield, but the shop would be able to give you the best advice/direction.

    have a Honda CBR 500r on order for delivery Nov/Dec, nice low seat, all the power you will need, possibly be able to get a lowering kit for a cb500x, Himalyan are bomb proof but think you would be looking for a bit more power after a short while, I think all bikers have a "happy spot" with their bikes.

    Great job! Now you are the kind of person I can listen to and learn from. Very relaxed, genuine, transparent, very real. Got a 21 Himalayan and have spent much of the last year modifying it into a Scrambler... and then... RE came out with the SCRAM. Hahahahaha! You should maybe test-ride that one too. 😁 I subscribed!

    I would reserve judgement until you have ridden the CB500X. It is possible to purchase a lowering kit that would bring the saddle height down to 800mm. The garage may even fit it for you if you ask them nicely. It weighs about the same as the Himalayan but it is a much more rounded motorcycle. It is also a Honda so it will be pretty bullet proof. If I was to downsize from my GSA, the Honda would be on my list along with a Triumph Tiger 900 (the factory lowered Triumph Tiger has a seat height of about 760 mm). I do a lot of riding on the continent which involves a lot of road riding from Lancashire to get there. For me the Himalayan is just a bit too slow for that. Can't wait to here what you think of the Honda. Ride safe.

    I had Bonnieville for 12 years,traded it in for a Himalayan back in June.
    Love the wee thing.
    Was all over Europe on the Bonnie,intend to carry that on with the Himalayan.
    The giant adventure bike spend most of their lives battering up and down Europes motorways.
    Slack cables point to a poor maintenance history.

    BMW 310 (...TVS from India!)
    Triumph Sport 660
    Benelli 502 or other Chinese bikes are available...
    Shop around, the market is packed full of options!
    But I'd recommend looking at a Kawasaki Versys 650 GT, all you'll ever need for touring, commuting and when the panniers and top box are removed in seconds, a weekend blast around is great too!

    Hi Charlie , forget the Enfield it’s the Honda all the way 👍🏼quality bike bomb proof !!( Suzuki vstrom 650’s are a very good alternative and can be lowered👍🏼😁

    The small Himalayan should be a good bike for you.
    For me, I am riding more than 50 years and now own a BMW G310 GS, these small bikes mean a lot of fun.
    The CB 500X is an other kind of motorcycle.
    May be near the coming? Himalayan 650.

    Your doing the right thing looking for a newer Himalayan, mine started to have lots of little faults after about 12,000 miles. If I wanted a touring bike for mostly road I would rather have a cb500x, but try the pre 19 year models as the seat height was increased quite a bit on the newer models. 100% agree with your off road training plan, these folk will give you the best advice on the best bike for the TET after they see you trying out various mdels. all the best

    If you can find one have a look at some BMW which have the factory low chassis, i have short legs too and ride a 2007 F650gs, great bike. Even the 1250 GS comes in a low version but some 700/800 ones about. I love the look of the Himmy, you can also get power upgrades for it too. Benelli TRK 502 is a 800mm seat height, good value price as well.

    Fantastic, do your research, there is another channel called “J&D on the road”, they both use cb500, take a look, I to loved my meteor but found I needed more power when my wife is on the back, so now have a Kawasaki vn 900, good luck with your research, great video, thanks for sharing 👍

    Great to see your expanding your search for your next bike. The Honda will be vastly different from the RE's, might get slated for this but in a better way. You say things like its sufficient, low HP but torque ok, does what i need etc etc. Its a single cylinder 411cc bike with 2o odd HP and while i commend you travelling to Aberdeen from Swindon on the Meteor its a case of, you've done that, got the t shirt so lets try something different. Test ride a Kawasaki Versys, or a Suzuki Vstrom. Keep it at 650 if thats the range you like but don't close the door to the 1000. You do not have to buy them but after test riding them it may change your mind what you want to use going back to Aberdeen or Europe. You have a great mentality, outlook, if you spread your wings or widen your choices i think you will be pleasantly surprised. Amazing Channel and love your vlogs. Whatever you choose it will be right and i look forward to watching your adventures.

    Dont make your mind up till you've tested the Honda cb500x.
    If you intend to do the trans European trail you will appreciate the Honda's ability to cruise at a higher relaxed speed.
    Vibration from the Himalayan is ok but for prolonged periods of time can get very tiring.

    Brilliant video and lots of useful information. The Honda CB500x is a world apart from both Royal Enfield’s you have ridden. It has a price to match but is probably one of the best duel utility trail bikes out there. I also have a Meteor and used to have a Himalayan. I found the Himalayan quite tiring on longer rides, whereas the Meteor, although a bit lacking in power, is so confortable you can ride it all day as you already know. It’s all about how much trail riding you actually want to do as opposed to cruising and camping that you really seem to enjoy. You might have to face it girl, you might need two bikes in order to fulfil all your wishes. If you can afford it, buying them is easy, parting with them is the problem. 🤣🤣. Keep up the brilliant work and stay safe.

    Hi Charlie ,buy the bike you like the super Meteor sounds pretty good ,don't be fooled by the adventure bike thing you can do most light trails on a road bike it about ability not machinery ,rode round the BMW gs and triumph explorer brigade on a bloody XJR 1300 yeah on a technical section the dirt bike wins everywhere else it looses ,just buy what you like and use it ,😁

    TBH I'd say that the scram 411 would be a better option, more road focus but with the light off road capability, I'd definitely advise you try it 😉

      Scram is 5ml lower. I changed to a Scram after two decades of riding 900cc plus cruisers because I fancied something different for commuting and it is great. Probably about the highest I can comfortably ride. I would recommend giving it a try.

    When I visited the U.K. , I wondered why anyone would need an adventure bike. Try as I might, I didn't see many unsealed roads. I was thinking of the bigger ADV bikes ( 800 cc plus) at that time. My guess is that most of them spend their time on Motorways, or going to a weekend meetup for coffee with their mates in brand appropriate riding suits (they do that in Oz too).
    I have owned a Tiger 800XCx and ridden 40,000 Km. in the Outback and lots of sealed highways. In my view, the rougher the road the smaller the bike should be. Where the bike carries its weight is important too. Both my Tiger and DRZ400 ( fitted with a 30L tank) carry the weight up high, whereas the Himalayan carries it low in the frame, making it feel more stable. As long as the suspension is tuned to absorb bumps and the brakes match the speed the engine can produce, you don't need a more powerful motor. More than 30 HP is just wheelspin.

      I'm really hoping to travel to Europe and do some of the TET route, that's why I'm looking at adv bikes, but on the whole you're right the UK roads are more road bike orientated. 😊

      @@restdayrider The Himalayan should do well at that role. In general, riding too fast results in you missing the scenery and increases the chance of a fall, especially when riding in unfamiliar conditions ( right side of the road).

    I don't own a Himalyan but have spent an hour testing one. I think you'll be more than happy with the Himalyan. I liken it to a mini BMW GS. You would more than likely find that if you took it to 63 MPH you would have ridden out of the vibes. Most bikes have a vibey spot somewhere. One thing you didn't do was to stand on the pegs. It's a great way to give your body a stretch and your bum a break.
    The Honda will feel much more refined and faster for sure but the maintenance costs will be higher and there are a lot more plastic to scratch up if you drop it which will eventually happen offroad.
    I'm thinking you should get one and ship it to Oz and spend 12 months riding around our beautiful country....if it ever stops raining😂😂. I'm off to Tassie in 3 weeks so it had better🤞

    The new Honda Transalp is coming this autumn, but maybe also look at the Versys or Suzuki SV, remember the bikes that will do good on road will be marginal offroad (Weight/handling) and the bikes that are good offroad will be marginal onroad, if you follow
    Noraly you can see how she started out with the RE then 500X then CRF250 and now CRF300 and she learned that weight is everything when off-road, you just can have all in one!!!!

    Charlie, you are the ultimate judge of what works for you, but I wiil say my '22 Himalayan is just about perfect for me...YMMV however I am fairly certain you will go to love it as I have...wonderful all-purpose easy-to-maintain machine akin to a faithful draft animal...best wishes on your choice and help with your 'hot spot' 👍

    I think doing the course is an excellent idea. Then you will have a much clearer idea where you are going.
    The 500X is a nice sophisticated bike and probably great if you plan a lot of road work.
    The Himalayan is very rugged and a real pack horse. There are replacement cams that give 20% more power.
    Side Stant is nothing a basic welder can't fix.
    The Scram would probably tick all you boxes.
    Honda CRF300s also.
    Do your course and have a think.
    I just picked up a yellow Meteor Fireball today. See where theatakes me.

    Absolutely, you will have so much more comfort even when all your gear is loaded up. Do it, you won't regret it, i recently got a tiger 800 xc, it rides the bumps like a flying carpet!

    Hi, being a shorty myself, 9 time out of 10, I can’t get my foot down on the bikes I’ve owned. The cheapest solution to this problem is to have the seat lowered, surely there’s someone near you that could do the job for not a lot of money, I paid £120 last year to have the seat lowered, with gel inserts added to make it more comfortable, and it was recovered. Look up a guy called Tony archer on the web, he’s very good. Problem solved, or you can get different dog bones fitted that will drop the suspension down at the back. Just remember to have the front done as well to balance the bike out. Hope this helps👍

      I'm the opposite... I raise the rear of my bikes even though I've a 28" inseam, prefer the quicker steering to getting 2 feet down...handling is more important! Got a jack up kit on the current Tracer7, gives extra ground clearance as well, the 900 Tracer couldn't even drop off a kerb without riding the sumpguard!(why I sold it).

    A great review but don’t compare the Honda cbx to the Enfield Himalayan they are in a completely different price brackets. My Honda cb500 was a great bike but typical Honda “BLAND”! I traded my CB in for an Interceptor and love it😊.

    You'll love an adventure bike, I came from a Suzuki GSX-S1000FZ completely by accident and I do mean by accident, was taken off my bike back in March this year, bike was a Cat B write off, I'm okay 😁, anyway I now ride a Triumph Tiger 900 Rally Pro and don't regret getting it one bit, in fact I have more fun on this bike than any of my previous, if I had to choose between the Himalayan and the CB500X, it would be the Honda all day long, however at the end of the day it's what your comfortable on & happy with, all the best & looking forward to see what you decide to get, good luck 👍😁

      @@restdayrider yeh I'm okay, got some ongoing injury problems, my right knee got the worst of it, now have pain on a daily basis, had two broken fingers, bust knee with a deep gash the size of a 20 pence piece, damaged tendons on the left hand, healing okay but it's a long process, just happy to get back on a bike again, all be it in some pain, thanks for the response 👍

    I love your vlogs, especially the recent one when you test rode the himalayan and started to reason with yourself as to whether you needed to buy it or not.
    I am 57 and have been riding bikes since I was knee High to a grasshopper. Just part exchanged my yellow Royal Enfield mighty meteor for a Triumph street twin.
    The Royal Enfield was lovely, but next year I want to go motorcycle camping and she just does not have enough power for the motorway.

    If you want a Himalayan buy a Euro 5 as it will have a lot of the gremlins ironed out having said that try a Scram, in my humble opinion it's a far better bike and you can still go off road. The Honda is also a very sweet machine, a bit of chalk and cheese against a Royal Enfield mind as it it a lot more refined. You will have a great time on the off road course, enjoy it.

    Most bike can be lowered... maybe ask before you put the height into consideration.

    You’ll love your off road course….out your comfort zone but it’s a good learning curve… tiring though….once you’ve had more horses there is no going back… remember, when your loaded up for camping those hills could become a challenge on a lower horsepower bike…..see you out there and enjoy…

    The RF is going to be fine on A roads, but will run out of puff on motorways with all your gear on, go with the Honda.
    If the seat height is a snag, go bigger, daft I know but my 2022 750X is 800mm high, it returned 103 mpg at a constant 50mph on motorway roadworks, expect no worse than 72mpg at 70mph. Weight is 210kg (manual) 58bhp but lots or torque.
    I bought mine to go touring and camping, it works well.

    I’ve had the same dilemma. Passed my test in November and i’m on my 5th bike already. I bought the CRF300L rally for green lanes but struggling to find other novices to go with. Some of them are a bit tricky in the Isle of Man so the crf is going as p/x for a tiger 900 for winter. Hope to get something for test trails next year when weather is nicer. Lots of bike changes but I was 60 earlier in year and want to cram as much in as I can. Looking forward to vid of your trails training as that’s on my list too.     The Himalayan will go anywhere, albeit slowly. Really frustrating when you’re time poor, not just the cruising speed of 60/65, but the way it simply gains momentum as opposed to accelerate to get there.
    I’ve had mine for 18 months (from an Aprilia 1100 tuono!) and done a bit of travelling/camping this year which I’ve really enjoyed, however am looking to get either a Honda 500x or the new transalp, or possibly the new 450 Royal Enfield that talked about, if it arrives soon.
    Love your tales of the unexpected, may see you on the road sometime. Cheers.

    If you are after a small trail bike a Honda crf300 might be worth considering you often don’t need much more power and weight off road. I test rode both the Himalayan and the meteor before buying the meteor which I think is a much better bike .I found the Himalayan uncomfortable and a bit rough around the edges and that compass thing had a problem with which way was north.

    Hello Again! Another vote for the CB500X here! I hope you love it. It's bound to be less vibey than the singles, and the finish and build quality is streets ahead. Whilst the niggles like your neutral switch and that throttle tube are minor they are simply not the sort of thing you find on a Honda 500. It can be lowered if you need to, and modified extensively if you find it lacking in say the suspension department or 'adventure equipment'. You might change for something a bit better that doesn't quite tick all the boxes and have to change again, but seasoned riders seem quite happy to use a 500x with minor mods for very real adventures so I'd be willing to bet you'd be happy with one for quite a while. Sorry for rambling - we look forward to your next test ride obviously!

    Hi Charlie. As you know from my previous reply to your question about the CB500X, I am a big fan, as I own a 2017 model (lower seat than the 2019 model and the latest 2022 model). I also recently bought a Classic 350 Chrome model as a second bike, which I also love. Never ridden a Himalayan, so I can`t offer any comparison but I am sure that once you have ridden both, you will decide which is best for you. As you are concerned with seat height, you really ought to at least sit on the lower seat model from 2017 and earlier. Watch out for those vibrations around your happy spot 😏

    Further to previous comments, the E5 Himalayan (from 2021) had some upgrades which imho are worthwhile, inc switchable abs for off road. A 16 tooth front sprocket moves the vibes bit to over 65mph, which for road use is worth doing. A brand new Himalayan is only c£4500, and again imho is worth the extra over a used one, and comes with 3 years warranty.
    There’s lots of E5 himmys for sale with tiny mileages, but they’re often only £500 or so less than new.
    The CB500x had some significant upgrades for 2022, an easy way to identify the it is twin discs and upside
    down forks. Everything I’ve read suggests it’s worth getting a 22, especially as a used 21/20 isn’t a lot less money. There was a waiting list for new earlier this year, but for longer distance work with an occasional bit of light off roading I reckon they’re a better bet than the Himalayan
    Whatever you decide I hope you find something soon. Cheers.

    Hi Charlie, I also looked at the Himalayan and the CB500X when old age and old car crash injuries forced me off my Triumph Sprint ST1050. I chose the Honda. It's quite a bit more cash but worth every penny. Plus with an 8000 mile service interval it'll be cheaper to run than the Enfield. Hope this helps.

    Am 63 had over 40+ bikes. If you are trying them out. Please try a Honda nc750x. Had both dct and manual, manual for me everytime. 58bhp not overpowered but gets there quick enough and effortless cruising above legal limits at low rpm. Easy servicing, 80+ mpg beautifully balanced due to engine so low in frame. Sounds good too. Very good high mileage reliability record. Honestly I love for you to comment on one. Best bike I’ve ever had but not the fastest by a negligible margin on the road. I keep up with mate on £20k gs 1200 no problem on uk roads. Maybe on track but then double hp. These bikes are a real dia. In sport fast enough to thrill and in normal beautiful for touring Barely no need for gear changes as ooodles of tractable torque. Engine sounds relaxed but watch the mph flick round

    The Honda is a brilliant bike, would be easier to live with on a trip to Scotland to see your brother! I know you said you don't necessarily want more power but...... don't overlook the Suzuki Vstrom 650, same sort of weight, great value, much better for longer trips and 7.5k miles between services, you'd probably achieve 70mpg too. Have you watched the Itchy Boot videos ? Noraly Schoemaker rode all around the world on her Himalayan. ps always good to get the same colour s your previous bike cos you partner doesn't notice the number of times you change it 🙂

    Hi Charlie, before I bought the Meteor, I had 2 himalayan's a 1st en a second gen. second gen a little more refined. HP wise not much difference , when you use the himalayan for camping, the 80 cm height might be a problem to get on the bike when there's luggage on the back seat. what I disliked on the himi is that isn't tubeless, so no easy plug solution. In relation to the Meteor, street tyres are so much more relaxed in driving and curves. seating position is so much better on the Meteor in time. more fuel efficient. Meteor isn't significant slower then himalayan. choices , choices. wish you a lot of wisdom
