Very well done for battling those strong winds Charlie ! I live in Porthcawl on the South Wales coast directly North of where you were around Porlock. My bike hasn't moved out of the garage for weeks now because of the incessant wind and rain ! In the 1990s when we used to live in South East England I used to commute 20 miles or so in and out of London all year round on 2 wheels. I also bought them muff things and they lasted all of 10 miles till they ended up in the bin and the next fill up! I wondered why I was losing power on the motorway till I saw that the wind was slipping the clutch for me when I got to about 65 ! These days I've invested in Gerbing heated gloves that work off rechargeble batteries. Not cheap but they really are game-changers this weather ! Looking forward to seeing you on the road somewhere when the weather perks up !

Hi Charlie, glad you had a good time eventually. I tried handle bar muffs years ago never again! They lasted as long as yours did 😂. Heated grips are the way to go or over mittens.
I couldn't help but notice how unsettled you were before your ride. As you pointed out sometimes making a lot of changes at once can give you a bike that suddenly feels very different. I think you have earned that T Shirt now. 😉 I dropped my Himalayan the other week I was tired, cold just got home from work and temp of -2. I turned the bike just a tiny bit tighter than normal put my foot down but not far enough to properly take the weight. I was now stuck with the bike half over and not enough strength to pull her up. Only one option gracefully lower her to the ground. 😂. That's how I found you looking for lowering kits. I have mine now and will be fitting it next week. Thanks for your videos. I noticed you have double take mirrors now, I fitted mine very soon after buying the bike and I'm very pleased with them, although I have the rectangular ish mirror heads. Bit pricey for what they are though. I noticed you got a little caught out on a couple of bends can't help but notice these things I'm an instructor just remember when cornering always ride the bike for yourself as when following it's so easy to just follow and that's how you get caught out. Also never try and keep up ride at your own speed I found this out at an early stage of my motorcycling days. Fortunately nothing more than very rapidly beating 💓 was the out come. If you are ever in the Midlands area I would Happily show you some confidence cornering tips.
Love your videos keep up the good work and enjoy all the charm Roger has to offer. 👍🙂

These adventures cease to amaze me Charlie. The video footage is fantastically breathtaking. The riding on wet roads alone deam's you capable, but dealing with crosswinds and 2 for 1 rummies....you and the crew are styling without a doubt.
Your picture at 30:00 is absolutely priceless when you consider your spot/life.
The flags of the Himalayan's represent Wind, air, fire, water, earth...The balance. We don't get to see the time it takes to put these videos together, and we all know by your footage how dedicated you are to your craft..kudos to you and your swell wrenching/ camping/ singing partners.
When you put a smile on faces....that's life. ( Balance)

Lol. I have used hand muffs for years. I made new holes using a soldering iron to stop them being a bad fit. They have been brilliant ever since. I can't comment on the furry seat. I took Stanley to Lyme Regis today. Beautiful and sunny and one ride closer to having run him in completely (now 725 miles). Ironically, my hands got cold and I thought that I must fit my hand muffs!! Ride safe and keep smiling. Love the vlog :)

I went to boarding school in Shebbear, N Devon, my sister in Bideford, used to cycle occasionally down to see her, about 31 miles return, had three great aunts in Barnstable, various relations dotted around, Saunton sands we visited often, great to see the area again, it was a long time ago, about 60years. All those narrow streets with their old thatch roof houses. Don’t worry about dropping Roger, I have dropped both mine on more occasions than I should probably admit to, nearly went down again on the Versys 300X this afternoon, was riding down a very soft sandy rutted lane through one of the Mekong shore bank dredging businesses, half the sand used for building in this area is dredged from the Mekong, which is only 45 minutes from me, my Scorpion Rally’s saved the day. Do they allow you to ride on the beach, might be fun? It looked quite hard so probably quite easy. Looks like you are making a nice collection of stickers. My Vulcan S top box came off and bounced along the tarmac, my fault hadn’t locked it properly, any way now collecting stickers to cover the scratches! Off to Cambodia and Laos soon on the 300 with a new group, so will no doubt collect some more stickers. Cambodia will be a first so that will be exciting. Happy safe riding, keep the rubber side down 😊😊😊😊

I live in Cornwall so gusts are fairly normal but they still give me the jitters often, particularly now that as my hips are iffy I've had to switch to a Honda Maxi scooter. I rode up Porlock Hill in 1962 with then girl friend on the back on my 250cc Matchless no problem. Er, coming down was not so easy with the drum brakes overheating, had to stop twice to let them cool down.

Your videos are refreshing to know we're not alone. My husband and I both said we've seen and also had that face of frustration. I'm also guilty of just dumping (aka parking) my bike anywhere on super stressful rides. 😅
So... you're not alone. But glad you've got support in riding friends and you ARE a long way from your early videos when a dual carriageway was too much.

Chuck the hand muffs I have always hated them. Get some heated gloves. Better than heated grips, whole hand warm but will need recharging after camping. U were brave camping. On steep inclines/declines, mini roundabouts, tight turns, just feather the back brake so it’s barely on. I could see you looking where u we’re going up pollock. That technique really stabilises the bike. Great for proper hairpins and stupid mini roundabouts where there’s a negative camber hump in the middle. One story about the wind. I test rode a tiger 1050 10 years ago and was blowing a Hooley. I was wanging along a coastal road ,protected from an onshore blast by trees, then suddenly there was a gap in the trees and the cross wind blew me from white line onto the grass verge bordered by stone walling. I ended up motocrossing along that verge desperately trying to stop and not hit stone wall side on as my leg and bike would not have faired well. Since then I avoid cross winds like the plague as gusts can literally have u off. U being laden made a larger target. I did not buy that bike largely because I didn5 trust it. Never had it since but I ride away from x winds. All down to experience, I went for first ride yest in welsh hills in sunshine thought was doing great after 6 months off the bike. Then after a McDonald’s I went back and got so many bends out of shape really nasty switchback undulating hairpins. In the end I stopped for 10 mins and had word about my techniques. When yu are bored, sat on lav etc search trail braking. Its simply the best technique I have learnt in 48yrs and is so safe. Some will argue destabilises suspension esp police and advanced riders. However it is taught by many schools and it does take a while to perfect. I went back to it my second half and danger was bypassed. Just my pennyworth. In short u are slightly on the brakes at approach to bend or roundabout etc so suspension is set and by continuing if you enter too fast u can still brake without bike standing up. I was an emergency service rider and supposedly trained but this was best thing I learnt. By the way hats off to your courage. Always look fwd to ur adventures and like the way ur mates look after you.

Thanks for this. Always interesting to get another rider's perspective on my local roads. I recognised almost every inch of your route and despite the wind on the top between Porlock and lovely Lynmouth you were so lucky. From the M5 at Bridgwater to Minehead on the A39 is so often a 20 mph grind in a massive queue behind a tractor or lorry. With double white lines almost the whole way that's it, you're stuck. You were lucky again at Porlock Hill where it's not unusual to be stuck behind a massive camper or motorhome struggling up the hill at walking pace which is a horrid pace on a bike. So glad you and your friends had a good time down here. 🙂

Well done and lovely video. I remember the last time up Porlock hill a deluge with large stones on the road, on Exmore wind and hail showers. I sheltered at the stone building by the carpark that you pulled in at. was loaded with camping gear heading for the REOC 40th birthday but wouldn't have missed it for the world.

Great vid. I love to see these real life vids, rain, worries and all. Seems you're following the usual biker path to me, with all the 'kit changes, mistakes, and why am I doing this !' I remember them all, lol. Them dudes you're with know it as well. I still worry about the 'ride out' after 40 plus years, but that's a good thing! You don't get squashed if you're still thinking about it. And yes! Once you're back, woohoo, another great experience. Your a paramedic! Blimey! You can handle biking!
Legend. Keep it up girl! xxx

That's quite a way to go even in a comfy car and then a tent! I'd want 5* and a bath. Must have missed the one where you got a new jacket. Was hoping to see my sister as you went through Porlock but alas not. Quite an achievement that ride.

as an Irishman, drove it 15 years ago dou a Merc A190 and it was another world. Love your vids, carry on Charlie 😊

That’s the first time I’ve seen your nerves play a factor in your riding Charlie. We ALL have bad days , you just needed to readjust and then get back on the bike, however you knew that anyway. Stunning scenery! I have to travel a fairway to get scenery like that so thanks for sharing. As always stay safe 😊

Hello, thank you for the video, one thing I have learn about riding in the UK you better have some good rain gear. I think you did very good riding on such small and winding roads, take care.
