I’ve had a CB500X for just over 2 years now and I cannot say anything other than positive things about it, it does exactly what I need a motorcycle to do. I traded in the bike that I had owned and enjoyed for nine years, a 2012 Pan European that he’d taken me all over Europe. The 500X had a big weight on its shoulders. Two years on all I can say is that my annual mileage has doubled, the 500X is a great real World motorcycle. The huge advantage it has over the ST1300 is that it does not have to stay on well surfaced roads, it’s taken me and my camping gear on roads and tracks I could not have imagined using. It’s comfortable, it’s got great weather protection, it’s will go all day every day with no fuss. It’s also quick when I want it to be and handles beautifully. Leaving the best for last it regularly returns over 90 mpg. That’s not 90 mpg riding carefully and economically, that’s 90 mpg chasing my friend on this 2022 Triumph Tiger 1200 Rally Pro through the Pyrenees (it averaged exactly half, 45 mpg) or 90 mpg taking me and my tent through northern Spain to Portugal and returning via the Picos. It’s a motorcycle that makes motorcycling fun. The NX500 with its upgraded display and new styling will be just as good if not better. If you needed recommendations I’d just say two words, get one!
@@restdayriderI must admit that I took my Voge 300 Rally on a bit of the TET today, a bit that was waterlogged, soggy and very muddy. I must admit I did think at one point I’m glad to be riding this bike today. In anything other than extreme conditions like that the 500X would have been up to the task as well.
Yeah I have owned my 500x for 4 years my wife purchased hers at the same time when I said I am getting a bike we live in oz done 3 tours of Tasmania both bikes have been fantastic.great fuel economy easy on tyres etc.only downside I had to purchase hand guards, centre stand and crash bars and some manufacturers have these already fitted which is very tempting when I need to trade the Honda. Cf moto 800t is in my sites as cruise control would be nice and buying a tiger is not really in my budget if I end up buying two bikes.malcolm and Diana Melbourne
Good review, I owned a 22 CB500X, basically the same bike as NX500, except for the faring's, display, and lighter wheels. As you're aware, its nimble, quick, great for curves, and fun to ride, Some owners show their display with over 240,000 miles on it with minor repairs and good maintenance on the engine. I was getting 80 mpg or 3.5 liter to 100km riding about the same speed in you did in the demo ride. I'm 15.5 stones and be assured the bike will do 110 mph, verified by GPS, a few hundred under the red line. I loved that bike, but I totaled my off road on dirt/gravel road, I'm now on Transalp 750. If you looking to keeping your next bike long term, you can't go wrong with the NX500. The CS Moto 450 is already available in the American market. KTM has a large share in the company and bike is full of features. The only complaint about the bike that I read is from the off road crowd, which use the clutch continually in the worst terrain. They all say the factory clutch sucks, it's not smooth, it's grabby, they resolved the issue by installing none OEM clutch plates and stronger springs and it's fine. Otherwise, people really like the bike, but it's a new bike so it's dependability and longevity has not been established. Looking forward to you review to the next two bikes.
6 years, 10 countries and 89,000 miles on my CB500X, including an 11,000 miler across the US and TAT. Still smile when i walk in the garage. Zero real problems or mechanical issues, apart from the cush drive bearing in the rear wheel failing at about 50 something thousand miles. Loads of farkles available for the CB, to be added as and when budget allows. The NX is a CB with newer body styling. So, IMO, you can't go wrong with the NX. OR, you could pick up a used CB for a price that's within your budget. Though i'd suggest a 2019 and up. The CF moto does have some good reviews. But... can you count on reliability, the way you can with Honda? And be able to find workshops and available parts for CF's? Plus the added cost of cans of ACF, to fight the reported rust issues on (arguably) lower quality parts Chinese bikes
Honda's will always have a reasonable residual value whilst i question that of the Chinese models . My experience in the past like you've stated cheap price because of cheap inferior materials used. Will you see the CF and such alike advertised for sale with 150,000 miles on them in the future and still going strong? Most of the Chinese CG and DR engined 125's were junk before there 1st MOT's.
Had over a dozen Hondas in my 50 plus years of riding and never had a breakdown, as a matter of fact just had my first flat tire on my CB 500 x last year.
@georgeharsin6292 Luck of the draw, my cb500f broke down (eng temp sensor failure) at 240 miles. Guy at my dealer has cb650 24 plate and instrument cluster filled with water and fizzed. So Japanese bikes not what they were!
Great vid, I've been enjoying bikes all of my life and slowly after going through the different stages in wants capabilities both physically and financially i've come down to 2 bikes, a little Suzuki GSX1400 which in nice weather never fails to put a massive grin on my face BUT my go to gem is my Honda CB500x a 2014 model which is a superb machine. It's as happy trundling around town and local lanes as it is at the speed limits along the dual track, relatively simple and well put together with a good dealer and spares back up too. I've owned it for 8 years and have to admit a little while ago i did consider trading it in for something different/ newer but come the end i personally felt happier keeping my old dependable. Lots of really great advice in the comments and obviously your good self and your mates aren't daft , way up the pros and cons and do mega amounts of research and check out basic service items and replacement bits if the bike God forbid toppled over it's' no good having a new bike that's off the road for months when you can't get the bits or the garage can't book you in for a month plus for a needed service stamp in the book! Maybe have a look at a slightly secondhand 500x outgoing model , no VAT depreciation and the possibility of buying a fully loaded trade in at a good price, Sometimes what appears to be the cheapest from the offset doesn't always work out that way . Be safe folks and enjoy your hunting the good old thrill of the chase happy days. I look forward to see how you get on. Enjoy
That's a valid point. So, the reason I am looking this time at new, is probably personal choice. At 52 years old I have never bought anything new, ever. No cars, bikes, cameras, sofas, washing machines, lawn mowers ... Nothing of any value. It's all been second hand or more, or gifted. This time, I wanted to save and earn something that was wholly mine. Not sure if that makes any sense, but it's the reason I'm taking my time and doing my research, it's a big thing for me. 😊
Cracking video as always. I'd definitely go for the Honda. You looked great on that bike. So reliable and great for touring. Worth the extra cash. Thanks for posting.
Great vid Charlie. I had a CF Moto 650MT during 2022/23. It took me all around Scotland twice, several journeys around Wales and so many more trip in the midlands. It never skipped a beat. The 450 looks so much value I'll have it as a second bike. I now have a Tracer 7GT and hand on heart the CF Moto quality is right where it needs to be. As the dealer network grows so will the brand and confidence will grow.
I’ve had a 500X for a year now and love it. I found the seat height too tall, so I had it lowered and I had the seat remodelled, so height now is about 800 which allows me to flat foot both feet.
On the same note. I am 80 and bought a 2023 Honda Monkey and put a rear rack on the bike. Could not swing my leg over without hitting the rack. Fix. found wear my butt was and cut the seat foam off the back and tucked in the seat cover and restabled it back on. Problem solved. The seat is to long for one and to short for two. So, it is just me so did what needed to be done. Works great and now have a top box on it.
Gone right off them, conned me out of £300 for a service on a bike I bought from them and didn't do half of what I paid for. This is after ten years of buying bikes and parts from them. This is the problem with multi franchise places they've pretty much wiped out all the other bike shops in the area so with no local competition they now don't give a fuck about their smaller customers.
Interesting your thoughts on the triumph.Good to hear a different view.Enjoy your solo camping trips.Just spotted you on shed and buried.keep up the good work.
Hi Charlie, I seem to remember that I suggested the Honda to you, before you purchased your Himmy and before your visit to the NEC. Take your time with your purchase, but as the owner of two Honda's, one my new 24 plate manual NC750X, the build quality of Honda is good and their engines super reliable and the mileage returned from the 500X is good. In my opinion you can't go wrong with Honda, so check out reviews of the 500, for example, MCN. You should definitely consider a second-hand one with low mileage, ideally from a dealer with a warranty for peace of mind, and save money. Regarding the accessories, I have just fitted many aftermarket parts to my NC rather than the official Honda accessories, at a fraction of the price so you could do that with the NX 500. I know you enjoy your Himmy, so the new one should be considered as well as the CF Moto, which continues to improve and you get a lot for your money, but the resale value on this will be less. Personally what I think is "pay cheap pay twice", I know you like the RE's, have you considered the discounted RE's 650's, as a twin MC will have less vibration than a single. Whatever you choose test ride all of them before buying. 😎
A nice video, thanks Charlie. It just goes to highlight the importance of test riding a bike and forming your own opinion. Research is always important. However, I do believe that try before you buy is so important. Good luck with your search. I look forward to your next video.
Personally I would tell Fowlers to frog off! A fabulous shop/showroom but, OMG absolutely disgusting customer services, let's face it, you booked a bike for a test drive and, when you arrive it's ' sorry we haven't got one for you' ! Sod em, take your buisness elsewhere 😞. As for the new bike thing, you enjoy yourself with the teas rides, I'm shure whatever you decide on, will be perfect for you👍🏍.
I used a cb500x in the canaries this time last year, very easy to ride and not big and bulky, I now have a Himmy to enjoy rides around local lanes leaving my tiger 800 xrt for long runs. You should stick with RE and go for the Himmy 450 as it will be more rugged than the cfmoto 450mt
Good morning Charlie. I have a CF Moto (650nk) and I love it, it's as good as anything else on the road, it handles superbly, has all the bits and bobs you could need and has been 100% reliable👍 There is a 650MT and 800MT ( both parallel twins) version that's similar to the one you're looking at. I'm only 5'7"" and honestly I struggled with the 800MT as it was too tall for me as it was, but I think there is a lowering kit possible for the 650+800. The test ride of the 800MT was epic, I loved it, super smooth, comfy, and handled like a dream. I think when you get astride the one you're looking at, you'll be impressed. Can't wait to see how you get on.☺️
Good Morning Charlie , for the price it will be hard to ignore for the cf moto , specially for all the extras you get with it , test ride both & chose after that , Dickie's 2 friends have just bought a 800 cf moto , take care & ride safe
I was interested in the Cfmoto but chose the cb500x. Resale value ,fuel consumption, build quality, parts and a great local dealer which I think is super important. But I am glad you’ve chosen the CfMoto
Great vid Charlie , was a bit gutted for you on your visit to Fowlers, looks like Blade was accommodating to you 👍, looks like you have a decision to make, you have to be very happy with the bike you purchase, you will get there and I wish you all the best, I’ve had Honda’s in my life and they never let me down , I did like the look of the Honda 500, I’m back on a triumph 1200 scrambler at the moment, all the best 👍
Hi Charlie, great experience, I have heard the CF Moto 450 is supposed to be excellent. They have a great warranty. Looking forward to seeing your ride one. Thanks for the great content. Cheers.
As a Honda CB500X owner I would certainly recommend this bike as a versatile machine offering great fuel economy. Add accessories from Givi, Renntec etc.rather than from the Honda catalogue and add some soft luggage and the purchase price isn't bumped up nearly as much.....just a thought! I'm sure that you will enjoy your new machine, whichever one you choose. Cheers.
I rode a CF Moto 2 years ago, not adventure style, more urban style. The fuelling was awful, especially at lower speed. The sales guy put it down to the ride by wire throttle! My brother was testing and adventure bike at the same time and had the same experience. Hopefully they've ironed it out now as there's a whole lot of bang for your buck.
Looking at the map and realising there was a big music shop near Templemeads rail station and just across the roundabout Fowlers motorcycles I just had to have a day out. Last Wednesday. Bought a new Roland FP-e50.
I always ask myself what do I want the Bike for? Do you want to do longer journeys at slightly higher speeds in more comfort and with the knowledge that the Bike won't let you down. Then go for the NX or CB500x. Do you want to do more off roady type of stuff? Then get the new Himmy. I understand the appeal of the CF but it's cheap for a reason and will the dealerships that are currently selling them still be selling them and parts three years from now? Too many smaller brands get abandoned after a while and dealers change franchises. Just some things to ponder.
I would say, that CF moto is OK... But VOGE which was mentioned somewhere here... I was in VOGE shop and was looking for VOGE 650 DSX - it´s like modern "remake" of old BMW F60GS. Few days ago I owned BMW F650 GS Dakar (2005) and sold her few days ago, so I had an opportunity to compare it with VOGE :) The reason, why I sold my BMW Dakar was, that I want more "street" bike. And BMW was too plastic, heavy, old (very expensive spare parts)... I didn´t have joy while riding... Actually I "felt in love" with Triumph Scrambler 400X - because it´s the opposit of plastic heavy bikes, moreover its new, simple, affordable ;) People are not the same, so everybody of us has own priorities ;) I would love to buy a HONDA bike (because of japanese reliability), but I want a bike which I will love ;)
Hi Charlie. Thanks for your insights on deliberating on what bike you should get next. I feel I will have a very similar experience in a couple of years when I retire and want to choose a bike for touring. Just a thought, would you consider lowering a bike to allow you have better stability? Lowering kits are not expensive. So many people say not to lower a bike but in my experience, we don't push bikes to their limits so its not really an issue. I hope you can make a calculated decision. Look forward to the blogs on the 'new' bike.
I’ve been trying other bikes , but there is a huge movement happening with Royal Enfield in the uk and I love being apart of it , my heart just lies there , hope you find the right bike for you ☺️😎
Yep the Honda is more expensive but look at what you’re getting. Reliability, parts availabilty, a network of dealerships/service continents wide. CF Moto is unproven imo. I’d steer clear and let them build a reputation before jumping on board.
@@tomwagner6334 I quote from the great web " CFMoto and KTM are, of course, partners in a Chinese joint venture, and CFMoto has long been tasked with manufacturing engines for use in KTM’s bikes. " 😊
@@restdayriderYour right. KTM actually does distribute CFmoto bikes here in the UK now. I am owner of a CFMoto 650MT. Only downside at the moment is official and aftermarket parts availability. Alot get shipped from overseas. So takes time for alot to arrive if you need something. I had to wait a month to get new Coils for my bike under warranty. Also took a month to get new fuel pump as well. So I was without a bike for those months waiting on new parts.
I've been crowing about the CF Moto 450MT since it was first announced. I think it is nearly perfect for a lot of riders. Been watching MAD TV and they rate it but also say the new 450 Himalayan is also a major player but offers a different ride. I will closely watch the progress of the CF Moto as I may downsize next year and this is definitely on my list.
In the same situation with my daughter (also a Charlie) just doing her A2. Was torn between the NX500, Himmy and CFMoto. Triumph 400s are a non-starter. She likes the Honda (a lot), but when we went to the Enfield dealer, she couldn't even get it off the side stand. Don't know how they managed to make that seem so heavy when it's the same weight as the Honda. Still waiting for the CF to get to the dealer and have a look in person. I'm leaning towardss the Honda, because that motor's been around forever and has proven itself bulletproof, but holding off pulling the trigger until we've had a go on the 450MT. Mind you, first year bikes and teething troubles....
I can't advise on any of the other bikes in your lineup but I have also owned a CB500x for the last 2 years. I have covered 10,000 miles now without any issues at all. As I don't do any off road riding all my miles were on the road but many miles were on country lanes/back roads where it is absolutely at home. I have also toured around England and Wales from Devon and it does that great as well with 80mph easy on motorways. My bike spec includes, panniers, top box, touring screen, heated grips and many other smaller mods. None of my extras were from the main dealer as they were far too expensive. As the NX500 is basically the same bike you could find less expensive aftermarket kit.
The CFmoto 450MT is definitely worth a look. Low seat height and lower weight than the NX.. 4 year warranty too.. its the one I would go for over the Himalayan and would be perfect for you and it will sell well at that price..
Well Fowlers can flock off !! they could have done it but your only a would be customer ?? Rock on BLADE !! I have a cf moto mt450 on order having got a 650 cf moto gt ! also have the royal enfield super meteor =bomb proof , cant wait for your review on MT 450 rgds Paul from Oztralia xx
Finding a bike that suits, is such a personal thing that no one can tell you what you should buy. However, I say this. What are three things about Roger that you like and three things you don't. Now with that list in mind apply the same factors to the bikes you test ride. How will you use the next bike? What is it's purpose? What has it got to have? CF Moto 450 MT is a dirt bike. Do you NEED another one? Maybe read the MCN Review of it. What if the new Himalayan's engine feels like the 400 Triumphs. P.S. the term "scrambler" is now misused to describe a style rather than an intended usage. Looks like it was made for the rough stuff but is only fit for the paved road.
Great vid 😎. I know nothing of CF Moto but it looks and sounds like a choice worth considering. Of course, you’ll never go wrong with the Honda pedigree. I think your ‘loyalty’ and love for the Himalayan is what’s making you indecisive 🤷♂️. I’m guessing your next test rides, once the bikes are available, will make your mind up for you. I am 5’6” (nearly 😁) and have the little legs challenge so, like you, am limited to choices but I often find that’s a blessing - can you imagine the choices you’d have if you were 6ft tall 😮. Looking forward to your next installment Charlie.
The Triumph does look gorgeous, so it was interesting to hear your take on it. The Honda seems to be a good all rounder but I would also need extras and 8k is a lot of money.
Exciting times looking at new bikes, and I know can be and is very frustrating, I am looking at the niken phew it's hard work deciding 😅. May I say how well your channel is coming on seems to get more enjoyable every vlog and your riding skills and knowledge has grown emensley. Good luck with your new bike hunt.
One bike you must try is the Benelli 702,you would love that bike ,the quality is spot on,the comfort is incredible, i love the bike, bullet prof motor Kwaker, can't go wrong.
I am between these two bikes NX500 & SCRAMBLER 400X and can't decide which one.. The main use will be monday to friday in city traffic for job and weekends some trips with my girlfriend.. what's your reccomendation (also i will add a top box )
In my humble opinion, the Honda is a better all round bike, the Triumph is great in town but I wouldn't fancy weekend touring on it, especially two up.
Great video. I've never seen the CF Moto. My only concern would be the reliability of the CF over the Honda NX500, parts availability and dealer network, especially if you intend to tour Europe. Honda have a proven pedigree. Also, Lust Racing supply modified "dog bones" which can drop the NX500 suspension and therefore seat height 25mm. You can also raise the fork tubes in the tree clamps slightly. What a dilema.
I’m as conflicted as you are between the Honda NX500 and the CFmoto 450MT. In my case I’d like to replace my daily commuter which is a CRF250SM with something a bit more powerful. Not that I need more power as it does well for what I need but if I’m taking a pillion it just doesn’t cope well. I do love the spec on the CFmoto. Only thing I wish is that it came with a more road focused variant having smaller rims and road focused tires. I’ve no aspirations to go off road. I’m also concerned if CFmoto would be as reliable as the Honda. I’ve had the CRF for almost 10 years now and never did it fail me; ride it everyday. Maybe I should wait another year?
Had a look at the Himalayan demo bike. Looks well put together and you can easily set the seat height to 800mm. One thing I didnt like was that it was very heavy (and with no fluids in the bike) and took a bit of effort to lift the bike upright off of the side stand
If you have problem with the seat hight maybe "DoodleOnAMotorcycle" can give some tips. Another interesting bike is the new Rieju Aventura 500. The same engine as Honda 500. If you only dayride you can use the tank under the seat to lower the weight center och move the weight from the front.
Interesting vlog Charlie, your speaking to the converted, I have just bought a Honda CB500x and the wife and I love it. Yes, buying the add on's is a pain but in the end, worth it if you intend keeping the bike. My local motorcycle mechanic won't touch anything Chinese.😊👍🏍
I test rode an NX500 and was pretty sure I'd found my next bike but took the Hornet 500 for a test too and actually preferred it so put a deposit down on a white one. The NX was good but I got buffering whereas the Hornet, whilst a naked, was no issue. The engines on both are great (even sewing machine like) but the Hornet felt lighter and quicker to me. "Like a toy" was how I felt about the Hornet compared to my VStrom 650 (Currently on Ebay) Don't think you'll go wrong with the CF though, I was tempted by the CLX700 before I went for the Hornet (I do 1000 miles a month and need the reliability which as yet we don't really know)
Cb500x brilliant bike had one for four years . Just changed it for the nc750xdct I wanted a full Touring kit but the Honda kit was to much so went givi loads cheeper. Failing that second hand one I sold mine £3000 full touring kit loads of bargains out there . Enjoy your process finding the right bike for you the Enfield dose look a brilliant bike .
Maybe worth looking at a used low miles Honda, especially if extras fitted. There would also be less depreciation. Autumn may also allow more negotiation on price or opting for previous model year.
What an amazing dealership, I could spend all day in there. Unfortunately all the dealers where I live have closed down, so I have to travel to get to any dealership.
Hi Charlie. Here in Ireland CF MOTO has taken off in a big way for the spec and the price they can't be beaten plus a 4 or 5 year warranty. Love your videos I am a subscriber looking forward to the next one. Ride and be safe. Ron from Ireland.
Hi Charlie , I was looking for a second bike main bike vstrom 1000 do a long motorway commute, I test rode Honda NX500 which was a great bike but not for me as second bike, test rode tiger 400x scrambler which I really did not like , test rode the 400 street and was much better, better gearing, handling but too small as I'm 6ft , ended up with another himmy 411 new old model as price was amazing and wanted the new Himalayan 452 to be out for a while before probably buying one in a year or two, good luck with your search , I love researching new bikes , watching RUclips, joining owner forums and downloading manual etc all part of the fun of buying another bike
Hi,just passed 40k miles on my 2017 500CBX.Its a great all rounder in my view, just misses a bit of quick pick up/ acceleration for overtaking.Just to throw another one into the mix,Mark Pulling (YT) did a review of the Voge D552X which looks a competitor to the Honda NX. Richard Bristol.Good luck and ride safe.
Loved my Honda cb500x, which I have recently sold after 4 years of trouble-free riding. Great bikes and I guess the NX500 is pretty much the same, only not as nice looking at the front end, to my eyes. Good to see you make a brief appearance at the end of Henry Cole`s Shed and Buried programme the other night on TV 😊
Having had a puncture with a inner tubed wheel and finding no one (bike workshops) was interested in helping. I had to get AA to take it home. Avoid Inner tubes which are usually found on spoked wheels
That's the thing the cost of the accessories for the honda, is astronomical compared to what you get for the himalayan, I've just watched you video on that, might not be pulse racing but cost wise and what you can do with it, its really good
I’m getting the feeling recently that dealerships only want to let somebody demo a bike if they are deffo going to buy it. What’s the point in a demo fleet if folk cant ride them!! I have a CB500x and love it, does everything I need 95% of the time. A bit low on power for a quick overtake. Ride safe. 👍
First impressions are important. When I first rode the 500X it surprised me in a way I wasn’t expecting. I was only testing it because I had a half hour to spare at the dealer’s while I was having a new tyre fitted to my bike. Only two weeks before I’d tested what I had presumed would be my dream replacement for the pan European, a Moto Guzzi V85TT, but I didn’t like it, it felt dull. The little Honda was the opposite.
Feel your pain Charlie as I'm in exactly the same position. Desperate to try the new Himalayan but their being so slow to get them into the dealers. I've also got my eye on the CF Moto as an alternative. I think RE are in danger of missing out on sales if they don't pull their finger out. I want a new bike for this season not next winter. Personally I'm not buying into this suez canal story. It doesn't add months on to the journey. Cracking Vid as always. Good luck with your search
Looking forward to the testride on the Himalayan and the CF. Oh btw I've put on tubeless wheels on my Himalayan and tey look and feel perfect, much lighter and now she (mine is a girl) flicks over more easily. Too bad I can't show you a picture, you'd love it I think. Cheers, great vidoe again Charlie. Oh I see I actually can..il send you a messenger pic.
My dealer sells royal infields and cf moto both. I am looking forward to testing the new himi and the cf moto. I don't think either on e looks as good as my old himi though. I was hoping the new himi was going be an air cooled 500 but that isn't going to happen. I still like the lower rpm torque.
Now that you've dwindled it down to 2 bikes I would advise you to check out the servicing and repair costs on both. Although the CF Moto might be cheaper to purchase the servicing maybe alot higher.
You have a lovely decision to make. Which new bike do I buy? The Honda looked like it really suited you. You can still get the CB500X new for £6199 while stocks last which is pretty much the same bike as the NC. You could concider buying pre loved and you might get all of the extras already fitted. Happy hunting.
I had a 500x it was reliable but so dull and tedious would be perfect to commute on but if you want excitement look elsewhere...the cf moto is really interesting shame they are not hear to test yet hopefully you'll get to ride one soon and it sounds like it could be the one
Me choosing a bike “can I have one of each please” if only I’d won the lottery 😂 good to test ride them 👍 bought a triumph bobber on pure looks one time and regretted it! Not really a bike for a man in his 40s with a bad back 🤦♂️ back to cruisers!! I was secretly happy the bobber was stolen in manchester but don’t tell the insurer! 🥴 great video, I feel your dilemma 👍👍👍
You’ve got loads of mileage left in Roger. Just fit a Hitcocks or Tec Bike Parts performance cam for a 20% increase in power, and a 16 tooth front sprocket, and you should have everything you need for £4-500 tops.
At this point, the RE after-sales will always be better than the CF Moto...but the new Himmy isn't anything like the old 411! Its like the current Landrover vs the 1950s one lol! So I am looking forward to you test riding these...they have been a big hit here in India with a lot of them on the roads these days! All the best!
Fowlers. Did your research , rang ahead and on the day no bike. Id've been so annoyed. Nice video 😊 P.s Username Kate , similar height to you reviewed Voge 525 ! you might wana research that. It's Chinese
I fully understand how you felt at the beginning. I CAN NOT ride pillion. I get on teh seat and I'm in ride mode. I hp on as pillion and I still control the bike I just can't sit there and let the rider be in control Well Fowlers that the way to win a customer and keep them isn't it. Yeah 3 bikes but they are not Royal Enfiekds are they
I tried the Triumph 400 scrambler yesterday and it took me back to my teenage years on a DT175 Yam, hooning round the Cheshire lanes.... before I moved to big bikes. Yes it was fun but I never went far
Always the same, as soon as you settle on the right bike, someone brings out another one! Tried the Speed 400 version of the Triumph, felt like the gearing was far to short, compared to my Honda 500 (CL Version) which is indeed smooth. Triumph price is very keen, might have to wait for the aftermarket to do some stuff for them, the official accessories are limited and expensive.
I agree. I owned a triumph 400x for 3 weeks and sold it because it didn't stir my loins. Can't say any more than that. Also tested the 450 Himmy in India and was left unmoved...competent though it undoubtedly is. Much prefer my old 411 Himmy (I've had 2). I need no more performance. Consider carefully before you change.😊 I've just ordered a new Dune Brown 411. 4000 quid OTR with free delivery! It would be rude not to!😅
It’ll be interesting when you finally get to test both the new Himalayan 450 and CFmoto 450mt, there’s been some really positive stuff about the CFmoto, 😎👍
I tried Scrambler 400X and for me it´s an amazing motorbike. One of my priority is not to have "tons" of plastics on my bike. So This is one of reasons why I love Scrambler 400X. For me it´s very versatile nice bike.
Tough choice yes, but I recon the RE brand and all Japanese bikes have it over CF Moto simply because of how long they’ve been in production. All issues ironed out etc. I suppose Chinese bikes could eventually become a top brand, but for me, at the moment, “better the devil you know!” Just a thought that perhaps should also enter the equation. Always enjoy your content 👍😉
On the CFMOTO front they are going to distributed by KTM so probably a wider dealer network. On the Honda NX500 side I'm looking for deals on the outgoing CB500X which they will surely want to move on.
HI I am looking around for a new bike also..... Great reviews you have done....... I have also been looking at Voge DS525X Tourer.... At the moment fully kitted out with high-quality Panniers & Top Box £5999 +OTR Also you get tubeless tyres ....Rider Modes.....1080p HD front camera to record movements and lots more............
I've had a 500x for three years now & i love it❤the NX500 is exactly the same bike as far as i can see🤔the only updates from the outgoing 500x are a taller looking fairing, updated dash electronics(if that really bothers you)that's it🤔don't know why they felt the need to change the name🫣it'll still be the same seat height as the one you didn't try the last time you looked🤔the new 450 Himalayan would probably suit you better, the 400x is definitely too tall😉i sat on that at motorcycle live & was only just touching the floor on the balls of my feet at 5 '7"
Hi Charlie, Honda’s do seem to be bulletproof. If it feels right then it probably is. As we all know it’s an expensive business kitting out a bike. Buying second hand gear can be expensive as well. I’m sure you will soon find your new bike. As always ride safe 😊
There's a lot of good words there for the Honda! Thank you.
Think you have found your niche ,testing bikes. One of the best videos you have done. Excellent
Thank you 😊
Good review, I owned a 22 CB500X, basically the same bike as NX500, except for the faring's, display, and lighter wheels.
It is CF Moto. I would never buy a CF Moto Chicom bike.I would quit riding first and I have been riding for nearly 60 years
6 years, 10 countries and 89,000 miles on my CB500X, including an 11,000 miler across the US and TAT.
Honda is on a different level to RE and CF Moto, proper bike!
You wish
Had over a dozen Hondas in my 50 plus years of riding and never had a breakdown, as a matter of fact just had my first flat tire on my CB 500 x last year.

Easy, Honda cb500x. Buy second hand. Best bike.
@georgeharsin6292 Luck of the draw, my cb500f broke down (eng temp sensor failure) at 240 miles. Guy at my dealer has cb650 24 plate and instrument cluster filled with water and fizzed. So Japanese bikes not what they were!
Great vid Charlie , i bought a cf 650 mt from treads a few weeks ago best move ever .
Enjoy
Good advice, thank you for the comment. 😊
Charlie get a late model CB500X its the same bike as the NX . Many used ones come with all the extras , You can get a 2023 for under £5000 .
Agree! Can get a nice low mileage one for under 4k now
This is the way I would go too.
True, all this crappie about touring pack etc, just getting more money out of us bikers sod the big shops
@@restdayrider Go for it Charlie and enjoy your choice . Hope your feeling a bit better now .
Cracking video as always. I'd definitely go for the Honda. You looked great on that bike. So reliable and great for touring. Worth the extra cash. Thanks for posting.
Thank you 🙂
Great vid Charlie.
Thank you, that's really good to know 😊
I’ve had a 500X for a year now and love it.
Poor show Fowlers, especially after calling ahead! Go with your heart Charlie😊
Living up to their nickname ........... Fowlups 😂
Thank you Stephen, good advice there. I am trying not to be swayed by the RE brand and use my head. I was really surprised by the Honda. 😊
@@restdayriderThat's good, test ride the others then test ride the 50OX again!
honda nx 500 a little more but so good and brand you know for quality and good resale. Thanks for the great vid
A nice video, thanks Charlie. It just goes to highlight the importance of test riding a bike and forming your own opinion. Research is always important. However, I do believe that try before you buy is so important. Good luck with your search.
I look forward to your next video.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you 😊
Luv your work as always Charlie. Looking forward to the next addition. Lots of love Si✌😎.
I was a tad annoyed! 😐
@@restdayrider who wouldn't be🤔customer service is lacking with some dealers, just don't give em any business 😉
They are known as Fowlups for a reason 😂
I used a cb500x in the canaries this time last year, very easy to ride and not big and bulky, I now have a Himmy to enjoy rides around local lanes leaving my tiger 800 xrt for long runs. You should stick with RE and go for the Himmy 450 as it will be more rugged than the cfmoto 450mt
Good morning Charlie.
I have a CF Moto (650nk) and I love it, it's as good as anything else on the road, it handles superbly, has all the bits and bobs you could need and has been 100% reliable👍
There is a 650MT and 800MT ( both parallel twins) version that's similar to the one you're looking at.
Can't wait to see how you get on.☺️
Thank you, that's really helpful to know. 😊
Good Morning Charlie , for the price it will be hard to ignore for the cf moto , specially for all the extras you get with it , test ride both & chose after that , Dickie's 2 friends have just bought a 800 cf moto , take care & ride safe
Thanks , I have been talking to those 2 chaps too. 😊
I was interested in the Cfmoto but chose the cb500x. Resale value ,fuel consumption, build quality, parts and a great local dealer which I think is super important. But I am glad you’ve chosen the CfMoto
smart, also supporting communists is uncool.
Thanks 👍
Greetings from down under. So many bikes... such little time. Thanks as always
Bought a new Roland FP-e50.
loved this video weighing up the pro's and con's
I always ask myself what do I want the Bike for? Do you want to do longer journeys at slightly higher speeds in more comfort and with the knowledge that the Bike won't let you down. Then go for the NX or CB500x. Do you want to do more off roady type of stuff? Then get the new Himmy. I understand the appeal of the CF but it's cheap for a reason and will the dealerships that are currently selling them still be selling them and parts three years from now? Too many smaller brands get abandoned after a while and dealers change franchises. Just some things to ponder.
I think as CF has such an established history of engineering in their quad vehicles and their strong ties to KTM that they should be all good. 😊
I would say, that CF moto is OK...
But VOGE which was mentioned somewhere here... I was in VOGE shop and was looking for VOGE 650 DSX - it´s like modern "remake" of old BMW F60GS. Few days ago I owned BMW F650 GS Dakar (2005) and sold her few days ago, so I had an opportunity to compare it with VOGE :)
The reason, why I sold my BMW Dakar was, that I want more "street" bike. And BMW was too plastic, heavy, old (very expensive spare parts)... I didn´t have joy while riding... Actually I "felt in love" with Triumph Scrambler 400X - because it´s the opposit of plastic heavy bikes, moreover its new, simple, affordable ;)
People are not the same, so everybody of us has own priorities ;)
I would love to buy a HONDA bike (because of japanese reliability), but I want a bike which I will love ;)
I did lower Roger initially, however it does create some ground clearance loss, and I don't really want that on an adventure bike now. 😊
Ah, but CF Moto have strong links to KTM, that's not unproven!
@@restdayrider Links as in copying but they are not the same machine.
@@restdayrider I sincerely hope you have nothing but the best experience with that brand or really any bike you choose. Love your videos!
New Himalayans are now appearing at dealers. My local Royal Enfield dealer (Smalley Cross in Derbyshire) had their demonstrator delivered last week.
None here in the states that I know of !
Thank you, that's really helpful to know. 😊
Thanks, that's some good explaining there. 😊
Too much choice can definitely be a bad thing!
Great video Charlie I think the CF moto sounds like the pick of the bunch, everything you need and at the right price..
Absolutely, can't wait to test ride. 😊
The Triumph does look gorgeous, so it was interesting to hear your take on it. The Honda seems to be a good all rounder but I would also need extras and 8k is a lot of money.
Absolutely what I concluded too!
Thank you very much 😊
One bike you must try is the Benelli 702,you would love that bike ,the quality is spot on,the comfort is incredible, i love the bike, bullet prof motor Kwaker, can't go wrong.
I had a CB500X, mine came with lowered dog bones, and the forks were dropped down 20 mm. You'd be able to flat foot it then👍
Just concerned lowering rides that I lose the ground clearance. 😐
I think that as CF have been making parts for KTM since 2013 that they're pretty proven, and have a good race track record. 😊
I'm not too worried about the weight as it's the same as Roger and he carries it well, I guess it will be down to the test rides. 😊
If you have problem with the seat hight maybe "DoodleOnAMotorcycle" can give some tips. Another interesting bike is the new Rieju Aventura 500. The same engine as Honda 500. If you only dayride you can use the tank under the seat to lower the weight center och move the weight from the front.
I think you are right about the CFMoto being worth a look. More tempting than the new Himalayan to me.
I'm excited to test ride one when they get here!
That CFMoto does sound interesting and they are getting a good reputation at the minute. Plus people are saying that they ain't bad for reliability.
If it's good enough for KTM racing it's good enough for me 😊
Interesting vlog Charlie, your speaking to the converted, I have just bought a Honda CB500x and the wife and I love it. Yes, buying the add on's is a pain but in the end, worth it if you intend keeping the bike. My local motorcycle mechanic won't touch anything Chinese.😊👍🏍
Just take your time. Get on them both and see where your head takes you. Good luck and research the hell out of the C.F. Moto. All the best
That's the plan! 🙂
I love the triumph perfect bike much better than the RE. Took it on a greatvtest ride.
Thank you 😊
Maybe worth looking at a used low miles Honda, especially if extras fitted. There would also be less depreciation. Autumn may also allow more negotiation on price or opting for previous model year.
It will be interesting to see which you choose…and I hope Jay has recovered from your early pillion adventure 😀😀
🤣
What an amazing dealership, I could spend all day in there. Unfortunately all the dealers where I live have closed down, so I have to travel to get to any dealership.
Hi Charlie. Here in Ireland CF MOTO has taken off in a big way for the spec and the price they can't be beaten plus a 4 or 5 year warranty. Love your videos I am a subscriber looking forward to the next one. Ride and be safe. Ron from Ireland.
Thank you Ron, I think they will grow and grow.
Really looking forward to your next video and your choice 🤠🚑
Absolutely, it's all part of the process. 🙂
Thank you, I think my local dealer has the Voge, I will have a look.
Thank you 😊
Having had a puncture with a inner tubed wheel and finding no one (bike workshops) was interested in helping. I had to get AA to take it home. Avoid Inner tubes which are usually found on spoked wheels
Absolutely! Tubless is a must for me.
That's the thing the cost of the accessories for the honda, is astronomical compared to what you get for the himalayan, I've just watched you video on that, might not be pulse racing but cost wise and what you can do with it, its really good
Unbelievable- you booked it! I would be fuming ! 830mm isn’t low… 😂
Wait for the 525 Himalayan. I just hope that you fit on it!!!!
I like the look of the CFMoto.
It definitely surprised me too!
It's a real quandary, and I think you're right about RE maybe losing sales.
I think RE's plans got severely hit by the Houtis blocking the Red Sea route of shipping to Europe, including the UK.🧐
It does look good! 😊
My dealer sells royal infields and cf moto both. I am looking forward to testing the new himi and the cf moto. I don't think either on e looks as good as my old himi though. I was hoping the new himi was going be an air cooled 500 but that isn't going to happen. I still like the lower rpm torque.
Great video! ...how I wish we had more dealers even half as nice and big as this one anywhere near here in Tennessee, U.S.
3rd timefor me watching this video. I guess I have to go check and see if you got anything yet!
Hahaha not yet John, waiting for the MT 450 to arrive to test ride. 😄
Now that you've dwindled it down to 2 bikes I would advise you to check out the servicing and repair costs on both. Although the CF Moto might be cheaper to purchase the servicing maybe alot higher.
Good point. 😊
I'm excited to try it that's for sure. 😊
😂 love that.
I use to have the old NX650 Dominator, cracking bike, not sure how much in common the NX500 has?
Not one I'm aware of!
You’ve got loads of mileage left in Roger. Just fit a Hitcocks or Tec Bike Parts performance cam for a 20% increase in power, and a 16 tooth front sprocket, and you should have everything you need for £4-500 tops.
Absolutely, but he is a little tired and needs a Rest. 😊
Personally Charlie I would definitely TEST RIDE FIRST before making any decisions! Tough Call Girl,Tough Call! Good luck!
Do the have the Honda rebel in the UK? I'd love to have a 1100T DCT. Bet your feet would touch the ground on those.
I googled it. the CMX500 is available in the UK.

I suspect it will all come down to the test rides. 😊
@@restdayrider Looking forward to that!
Weird to hear someone actually make fun of the Scrambler 400, as all other reviews have been very positive.
It just wasn't for me. 😊
Fowlers. Did your research , rang ahead and on the day no bike. Id've been so annoyed. Nice video 😊
P.s Username Kate , similar height to you reviewed Voge 525 ! you might wana research that. It's Chinese
I was a tad annoyed! I will have a look at the Voge.
Yeah 3 bikes but they are not Royal Enfiekds are they
It's such a bizarre feeling initially!
I tried the Triumph 400 scrambler yesterday and it took me back to my teenage years on a DT175 Yam, hooning round the Cheshire lanes.... before I moved to big bikes. Yes it was fun but I never went far
I think that's it's sweet spot. 😊
@@restdayrider..... I've just watched a review of the CF Moto 450. I think it's worth a look
Consider carefully before you change.😊
I've just ordered a new Dune Brown 411. 4000 quid OTR with free delivery! It would be rude not to!😅
That's a good deal. Glad I wasn't alone not liking the triumph. 😏
My buddy has CF Moto 700 cxl and absolutely loves it.
It’ll be interesting when you finally get to test both the new Himalayan 450 and CFmoto 450mt, there’s been some really positive stuff about the CFmoto, 😎👍
A good straightforward review Charlie, sad to hear the Triumph was rather disappointing. I'm going to have a look but not optimistic 😕
It could be a totally different experience for you 😃
I plan to try it out, we'll see....
Absolutely!
I tried Scrambler 400X and for me it´s an amazing motorbike. One of my priority is not to have "tons" of plastics on my bike. So This is one of reasons why I love Scrambler 400X. For me it´s very versatile nice bike.
Hi Charlie, if this helps I have a CF Moto 650 MT and I think the value for money is really good plus all of the standard kit. Well recommended x
Good to know, thank you 😊
Tough choice yes, but I recon the RE brand and all Japanese bikes have it over CF Moto simply because of how long they’ve been in production. All issues ironed out etc. I suppose Chinese bikes could eventually become a top brand, but for me, at the moment, “better the devil you know!” Just a thought that perhaps should also enter the equation. Always enjoy your content 👍😉
Thank you 😊
On the CFMOTO front they are going to distributed by KTM so probably a wider dealer network. On the Honda NX500 side I'm looking for deals on the outgoing CB500X which they will surely want to move on.
HI
I am looking around for a new bike also.....
I think my dealer may have the Voge, I'll have a look.
I've had a 500x for three years now & i love it❤the NX500 is exactly the same bike as far as i can see🤔the only updates from the outgoing 500x are a taller looking fairing, updated dash electronics(if that really bothers you)that's it🤔don't know why they felt the need to change the name🫣it'll still be the same seat height as the one you didn't try the last time you looked🤔the new 450 Himalayan would probably suit you better, the 400x is definitely too tall😉i sat on that at motorcycle live & was only just touching the floor on the balls of my feet at 5 '7"
Maybe it was the 400x I tried and couldnt reach on, I can't remember now!
Hi Charlie, Honda’s do seem to be bulletproof. If it feels right then it probably is. As we all know it’s an expensive business kitting out a bike. Buying second hand gear can be expensive as well. I’m sure you will soon find your new bike. As always ride safe 😊
Thank you 😊
