  • The presenters travel to Scone Palace in Perthshire, which was visited by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert in September 1842. Tim Wonnacott delves into the monarch's personal diaries and discovers how her request to stay in a ground-floor apartment resulted in her host, the Earl of Mansfield, creating a new suite. Plus, Rosemary Shrager is assisted by food historian Ivan Day in re-creating the Scottish shortbread that was prepared during the royal stay.

My Scottish grandma just used a fork to prick her shortbread - which was beautiful and just melted in the mouth.

This episode with the scones is wonderful! I am faacinated with all the beautiful antique kitchen equipment that Ivan uses for each recipe..lucky guy! I think that the furniture and decor of the Victorian era are so lovely. The craftsmanship is exquisite. I wish you had continued your program. I love it.

It's crazy that the owners had to foot the bill for the Queen's whole household.

It was always like that. Some Queens were even worse for it in earlier times, just going around all year staying in country homes, it almost cleaned some nobles out completely, but it always has to be done.

It bothers me that @ 16:37, that people are touching the book of how much the lord spend on updating the house and his accounts, but that the book is propped up so that it does not hurt the binding.
