I love how Thomas Pridgen doesn't try to act like he knows everything

Good stuff.. also the size/character of the room has a huge impact on the drums.

“I dont really understand the chemistry of tuning a drum.. I just play them like a complete bad ass.”

i had to buy one of those drum dial tuners and tune each lug to the same pitch and then from there i would fuck with the tuning to see how my ears react cause i don't know what i'm doing. the drum dial for me was a necessary purchase and it taught me just how sensitive these lugs are when being turned. my drums sound good now tho and i know i can always put that drum dial on there if they sound funky.

yea man tuning by ear is well and good but there is a whole world of chromatic combinations you can apply to the kit

Excellent assessment. He may want to try some felt strips on that bass drum.

"Steve Gadd's drums sound terrible until HE plays them." After everything I've heard about Gadd, you know thats gotta be 100% true.

Everyone has their own tuning techniques. Its worth researching what type of heads are best from the type of wood your kit is, and how thick the shells are. Gavin Harrison gives a good tutorial on how to tune. This video wasnt much help its just basically what Thomas does.
