But, if you think about it, the play "Rent" is not really child-friendly at all.
It's got a lot of LGBTQ stuff in it; to change any of that, you would end up with almost a different play altogether... That's why even though she'd be right for saying that to the anchor, there's no way small kids should be doing a play called "RENT"... In that play the thespians are indeed often playing lesbians...lol
@@cosmicdarkmatter1128 True, Rent isn't really a child-friendly musical, and I think that was part of the joke of this sketch. But I don't think she disliked the anchor's comment because LGBTQ words aren't child-friendly, I think she disliked his comment because he was being perverted.
Kyle's line "Take your insulin Roger!" cracks me up every time.

I have a degree in theatre and let me tell you - this is painfully accurate. This is actually what Rent Junior did - they converted AIDS to diabetes.
They’ve done similar things with Avenue Q and Les Mis. It’s hysterical.
Tori Dunlap they didn’t actually do this in the rent school edition. This sketch was based off one school that turned HIV/AIDS into diabetes. But even in the school version it’s supposed to be about aids
But that’s the only way to reach a younger demographic?

Hilarious..... such clever writing these days at SNL. I wonder if Amy wrote that all by herself.
sheridan891 nope she had zero hand in the writing. It was brought up in interviews of the writers of the sketch. IMO she almost ruined the sketch. The character doesn’t fit AT ALL in the sketch. 100% show horned into a really really funny sketch.
Much stronger sketches have been written for her, characters are not her strong suit. Like on “Inside Amy Schumer” the funny sketch’s on that show we’re when Amy played the “straight man” and she shined in those sketches.

sheridan891 jeez not every piece of comedy has to be “clever” or “deep”- in fact a lot of comedy isn’t, I’m willing to bet you only have a problem with that line because it was performed by Amy. She’s definitely not the funniest comedian out there but she has her moments, no need to mindlessly hop on a hate bandwagon for the sake of it

OMG I actually used to LOVE the book Amelia Bedelia Goes Camping, when Amelia literally hits the road with a stick and grills meat steaks in the shape of tents and puts potato chips in the cookies with some chocolate.
There's another book about her ass? I remember one where she does chores literally and causes confusion.

The fact that they kept everything in the line about April(?) except the word AIDS is hysterical. I remember the first time I watched RENT and that line woke me right up. It felt like really important info deserving a song being given as almost a throwaway line. I honestly think it’s more effective that way too

That part shocked me especially since I am an aspiring actor and I haven't seen a production of "Equus" but I read the play a year and-a-half ago. I'm a grown man and even I found "Equus" disturbing, let alone kids doing a production of "Equus."
On the other hand, it's nice to see little theatre references thrown in here and there. 😃

My High School did the uncensored version of Rent the musical when I was a senior! It was awesome... I was in the stage crew.
Just finished doing a production of Rent, and this is literally what the cast lives and breathes on for jokes, it’s great.
Rent is my favourite musical and it isn’t as listened to in my age group as other musicals such as Heather’s or DEH. I love it when you actually see Rent used, AND this is hilarious! Kudos.
They never did explain why a girl in Denver has a Kentucky accent, but maybe I'm reading too much into it.

Too bad she sucks at comedy and also steals jokes and rewords them from other comedians.
SNL needs to learn how to end a sketch. Most of theirs start strong, and end with a fizzle.
I think the concept was funnier than the execution.
Actually i thought it was going to be great after the first kid with the guitar. The Amy Schumer thing appeared to take the sketch in an unrelated direction.
